Washington (Reuters) – The United States is weighing new measures against the International Criminal Court (ICC) to protect its sovereignty and defend allies. Officials stress the move is aimed at preventing judicial overreach, while encouraging the ICC to adopt reforms that ensure fairness and accountability.

A State Department spokesperson said the U.S. will stand firmly with its service members and partners, taking “appropriate steps to defend our values and people.”

The ICC recently pursued cases against Israeli leaders and Hamas members over the Gaza conflict. Washington maintains that lasting peace must come through diplomacy and sovereign negotiation, not external judicial pressure.

At the UN, American diplomats are expected to emphasize that defending sovereignty and promoting reform strengthens global cooperation, underscoring U.S. leadership in protecting justice on its own terms.
