Saudi Crown Prince Establishes Imam Faisal bin Turki Royal Reserve to Address Global Environmental Challenges

Date:

Riyadh – Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced on Sunday that the Kingdom has developed the Imam Faisal bin Turki Royal Reserve, among other royal reserves, to tackle global environmental issues. This move comes as part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to find sustainable solutions to preserve the environment.

Through a royal order, Mohammed bin Salman established the Imam Faisal bin Turki Royal Reserve, which spans across three key administrative regions in Saudi Arabia: Asir, Makkah Al-Mukarramah, and Jazan. It extends into the Kingdom’s territorial waters in the Red Sea, making it the eighth royal reserve in Saudi Arabia.

The primary objective of the reserve is to protect environmental and biological diversity. It aims to support sustainable ecosystems, enhance plant productivity, and safeguard endangered species. Encompassing a significant area of 30,152.7 square kilometers, the reserve showcases diverse landscapes, including the sea, coastlines, peaks, plains, deserts, and valleys. It is also home to a rich variety of animal, fish, and plant species, underscoring its environmental significance.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman highlighted that the reserve’s biological diversity will contribute to supporting all forms of life within its boundaries.

“We are determined to develop our natural resources, improve the quality of life within Saudi territory, develop infrastructure, enhance the sustainability of non-oil economic resources, and provide more job and investment opportunities in the Kingdom,” stated the crown prince.

Beyond its environmental value, the reserve holds cultural importance, as it showcases a unique blend of arts, architecture, and popular folklore that reflects the distinct identities of the regions it encompasses. The Imam Faisal bin Turki Royal Reserve now stands as the third-largest in Saudi Arabia and sets itself apart with its topographical and geographical diversity, making it an exceptional natural asset.

The establishment of this royal reserve demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. By preserving and protecting the region’s natural resources, the Kingdom aims to support biodiversity, promote eco-friendly practices, and create opportunities for economic growth and investment.

The Imam Faisal bin Turki Royal Reserve serves as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s dedication to environmental stewardship and underscores its aspirations to address global environmental challenges. It stands as a beacon of hope for the preservation of natural heritage, cultural diversity, and sustainable development in the region.
