Hyderabad – The four men accused of raping and murdering the 26-year-old veterinary doctor of India’s Telangana state were killed in a Police encounter around 3:30 am on Friday.
Police took the accused men Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen Kumar, Chintakunta Chenna Keshavulu and Mohammed Pasha to the spot – which is a bridge on Bengaluru-Hyderabad national highway (NH-44) near Chattanpalli village at Shadnagar – where they raped and burnt the victim on the night of November 27, local media reports quoted an official of the Cyberabad police commissionerate.
Police asked them to reconstruct the scene in order to interrogate the crime. Taking benefit of the situation when they attacked the Police in an attempt to run away, Police had to fire a couple of rounds to kill them.
“They did not stop even when asked to surrender. As a last resort, the police had to fire at them, killing them on the spot,” a Police officer said based on anonymity.
On November 27, the doctor was raped and brutally burnt which incurred a nation wide protest to bring rapists to justice.
Telangana’s IT Minister KT Rama Rao tweeted on November 29 that he would personally monitor the case and ensured speedy justice.
Outraged and deeply anguished by the murder of #Priyankareddy I am confident that @TelanganaDGP & the police will catch the animals who committed this heinous crime & deliver justice at the earliest. I’ll personally monitor the case too. Anyone in distress, please dial 100 ? ?
