Why Western Media covers Khashoggi murder 24/7, but ignores Palestinian Journalists? asks Lee Camp

Seeing US corporate media doing the right thing and covering journalist Jamal Khashoggi murder by Saudis 24/7 was like catching a shark reading a book, Lee Camp said on the latest ‘Redacted Tonight’ episode.

“The mainstream media is actually covering the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey a few weeks ago. And the mainstream corporate media has been all over it 24/7.

“When I saw the mainstream media doing the right thing covering this murder, I was excited, I was thrilled and I was like: ‘what exactly is going on here’?” Camp said.

But if that was the case, Camp suggested, “they would have extensively covered the intentional murder of a Palestinian journalist a few months ago in Gaza where they were wearing press across their chest and were still shot by snipers.”

If US mainstream media cared about journalists, he continued, “they would have extensively covered the police shooting of reporter Erin Schrode in Standing Rock where, while on camera, she was intentionally shot with rubber bullets. Or they would have covered the arrests of journalists at the J20 protests or at Occupy Wall Street. They would be standing up for journalist Julian Assange.”

“I’m not saying you can’t find one mainstream story on some of those things I mentioned but none of them got a tiny fraction of the 24/7 Khashoggi treatment,” Camp explained.

Camp says he finally figured out why the media is doing this. It is “because Khashoggi was part of an elite DC crowd. He was a writer for The Washington Post, he was a member of The Club. That is when our media and our government get upset – when you harm the elite. You can shoot, arrest low-level journalists all day long. The corporate media don’t give a sh*t.”

“Only the elite matter,” Camp argued adding that “this goes for more than just murder.”

“Imagine the number of people harmed by the 2008 financial collapse, the number of homes lost… But who went to prison? Only Bernie Madoff… he stole from the rich,” he said.

He also recalled the Martin Shkreli case; he went to jail not for increasing the price of medications “to such a level that very few could afford them… but for lying to investors, for defrauding the rich.”

“This is why no president or higher official goes to jail even after we discover, let’s say, there were never any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq,” he pointed out.

According to Camp, “for the most part the entire system: the courts, the politicians, the media, they know their job is to protect the upper class.”

The reason why we saw US media covering the killing of a journalist is because some Saudis “made the unforgivable mistake of murdering one of the elites”, Camp concluded.

FAITH: The Three Questions in the Grave

0

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

When the son of Adam dies and his soul departs and he is placed in his grave, then he is in the first stage of the Hereafter, because the grave is the first of the stages of the Hereafter.

It was narrated that Haani’ the freed slave of ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan said: when ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affaan stood by a grave he would weep until his beard became wet. It was said to him, “You remember Paradise and Hell and you do not weep, but you weep because of this?” He said, “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘The grave is the first of the stages of the Hereafter; whoever is saved from it, whatever comes afterwards will be easier  for him, but if he is not saved from it, what comes afterwards will be worse for him.’” And the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I have never seen any scene but the grave is more frightening than it.” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2308; Ibn Maajah, 4567; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1684).

Secondly:

The two angels who are charged with questioning come to him and ask him what he used to believe in in this world, who was his Lord, what was his religion and who was his Prophet. If he gives a good answer, that is good, but if he does not answer them they inflict a severe and painful beating on him.

If he was one of the righteous, angels with white faces come to him, but if he was one of the evildoers, angels with dark faces come to him. This is the fitnah or tribulation that he suffers.

It was narrated from ‘Aa’ishah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to say, ‘Allaahumma inni a’oodhu bika min al-kasali wa’l-haram wa’l-maghram wa’l-ma’tham. I seek refuge with You from laziness and old age, and from debts and sins; from the torment of the Fire and from the tribulation of the Fire, and from the tribulation of the grave and the torment of the grave, and from the evil of the tribulation of wealth, and from the evil of the tribulation of poverty, and from the evil of the tribulation of the Dajjaal (Antichrist). O Allah! Wash away my sins with the water of snow and hail, and cleanse my heart from sin as a white garment is cleansed from filth, and put a great distance between me and my sins, as great as the distance You have made between the East and the West).”

(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6014).

Ibn Hajar said:

The phrase “from the tribulation of the grave” means the questioning of the two angels.

Fath al-Baari, 11/177.

And al-Mubaarakfoori said:

“The tribulation of the grave” means confusion when answering the two angels.

Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi, 9/328

Thirdly:

With regard to the questions that the angels will ask in the grave, this is explained clearly in the following hadeeth:

It was narrated that al-Bara’ (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: We went out with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) for the funeral of a man from among the Ansaar. We came to the grave and when (the deceased) was placed in the lahd, the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) sat down and we sat around him, as if there were birds on our heads (i.e., quiet and still). In his hand he had a stick with which he was scratching the ground. Then he raised his head and said, “Seek refuge with Allaah from the torment of the grave”, two or three times. Then he said, “When the believing slave is about to depart this world and enter the Hereafter, there come down to him from heaven angels with white faces like the sun, and they sit around him as far as the eye can see. They bring with them shrouds from Paradise and perfumes from Paradise. Then the Angel of Death comes and sits by his head, and he says, ‘O good soul, come forth to forgiveness from Allaah and His pleasure.’ Then it comes out easily like a drop of water from the the mouth of a waterskin. When he seizes it, they do not leave it in his hand for an instant before they take it and put it in that shroud with that perfume, and there comes from it a fragrance like the finest musk on the face of the earth. Then they ascend and they do not pass by any group of angels but they say, ‘Who is this good soul?’ and they say, ‘It is So and so the son of So and so, calling him by the best names by which he was known in this world, until they reach the lowest heaven. They ask for it to be opened to them and it is opened, and (the soul) is welcomed and accompanied to the next heaven by those who are closest to Allaah, until they reach the seventh heaven. Then Allaah says: ‘Record the book of My slave in ‘Illiyoon in the seventh heaven, and return him to the earth, for from it I created them, to it I will return them and from it I will bring them forth once again.’ So his soul is returned to his body and there come to him two angels who make him sit up and they say to him, ‘Who is your Lord?’ He says, ‘Allaah.’ They say, ‘What is your religion?’ He says, ‘My religion is Islam.’ They say, ‘Who is this man who was sent among you?’ He says, ‘He is the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).’ They say, ‘What did you do?’ He says, ‘I read the Book of Allaah and I believed in it.’ Then a voice calls out from heaven, ‘My slave has spoken the truth, so prepare for him a bed from Paradise and clothe him from Paradise, and open for him a gate to Paradise.’ Then there comes to him some of its fragrance, and his grave is made wide, as far as he can see. Then there comes to him a man with a handsome face and handsome clothes, and a good fragrance, who says, ‘Receive the glad tidings that will bring you joy this day.’ He says, ‘Who are you? Your face is a face which brings glad tidings.’ He says, ‘I am your righteous deeds.’ He says, ‘O Lord, hasten the Hour so that I may return to my family and my wealth.’ But when the disbelieving slave is about to depart this world and enter the Hereafter, there come down to him from heaven angels with black faces, bringing sackcloth, and they sit around him as far as the eye can see. Then the Angel of Death comes and sits by his head, and he says, ‘O evil soul, come forth to the wrath of Allaah and His anger.’ Then his soul disperses inside his body, then comes out cutting the veins and nerves, like a skewer passing through wet wool. When he seizes it, they do not leave it in his hand for an instant before they take it and put it in that sackcloth, and there comes from it a stench like the foulest stench of a dead body on the face of the earth. Then they ascend and they do not pass by any group of angels but they say, ‘Who is this evil soul?’ and they say, ‘It is So and so the son of So and so, calling him by the worst names by which he was known in this world, until they reach the lowest heaven. They ask for it to be opened to them and it is not opened.” Then the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) recited (interpretation of the meaning):

“for them the gates of heaven will not be opened, and they will not enter Paradise until the camel goes through the eye of the needle”

[al-A’raaf 7:40]

He said: “Then Allaah says, ‘Record the book of My slave in Sijjeen in the lowest earth, and return him to the earth, for from it I created them, to it I will return them and from it I will bring them forth once again.’ So his soul is cast down.”  Then the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) recited the verse (interpretation of the meaning):

“and whoever assigns partners to Allaah, it is as if he had fallen from the sky, and the birds had snatched him, or the wind had thrown him to a far off place”

[al-Hajj 22:31]

He said: “Then his soul is returned to his body, and there come to him two angels who make him sit up and they say to him, ‘Who is your Lord?’ He says, ‘Oh, oh, I don’t know.’ They say, ‘What is your religion?’ He says, ‘Oh, oh, I don’t know.’ Then a voice calls out from heaven, ‘Prepare for him a bed from Hell and clothe him from Hell, and open for him a gate to Hell.’ Then there comes to him some of its heat and hot winds, and his grave is constricted and compresses him until his ribs interlock. Then there comes to him a man with an ugly face and ugly clothes, and a foul stench, who says, ‘Receive the bad news, this is the day that you were promised.’ He says, ‘Who are you? Your face is a face which forebodes evil.’ He says, ‘I am your evil deeds.’ He says, ‘O Lord, do not let the Hour come, do not let the Hour come.’”

Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4753; Ahmad, 18063 – this version was narrated by him. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1676.

The correct view is that the two angels will only question the deceased in his grave about matters of Tawheed (monotheism) and ‘aqeedah (belief). This is quite clear.

And Allaah knows best.

India’s Asian Games Medalist sells ‘Kulfi’ on streets, blames Government

0

Bhiwani – An Asian Games silver medalist in boxing has to sell ice-creams on the streets of Bhiwani – Haryana to repay the debts his dad incurred to build his sport’s career, as no local minister and politician cares to support him.

Dinesh Kumar – won 17 gold, one silver, and five bronze medals in variety of competitions in India and abroad. But his career came to halt in 2014, when his car collided with a truck near Samana.

He was shown pushing a cart titled ‘Dinesh Kulfi’ in a video posted by ANI news agency. The former boxer is trying to settle his family debts as it kept increasing in lakhs.

“Right now, I have no hope that the government will provide me with monetary aid or employment. None of the political parties that have been in power since my accident have found me worth helping. I want to let the government know that I am wasting away here even though I am still a good sportsperson,” Kumar said.

“I want to help my family pay off the debts they accumulated trying to further my career and then get back into the boxing ring,” he added.

Speaking to media, his elder brother said, “Dinesh won many laurels for India at competitions across the world, and our father took loan after loan to send him to England and other countries. He is lakhs in debt now, and that’s why we are in this terrible state.”

“There’s no help coming from the government, and nobody even wants to know how we are doing. Things would have been very different if this had happened to someone else,” he added.

His former coach, Vishnu Bhagwan, has kept urging Government to help Kumar with monetary aid.

He said, “Dinesh was very agile as a boxer. He won many medals in the junior category, but is now forced to sell kulfis on the streets because of a tragic accident.”

However, Kumar boasted that he has not lost touch with boxing, and to keep his skills active, he teaches free boxing classes to children of a slum area.

“Many of the children I mentored have reached the international arena,” he enthused.

Hundreds of sportsmen in India end up doing menial jobs as Government lacks proper encouragement and support except Cricket, that has eventually made India backwards in top-class games despite talent is second name of the country.

OPINION: Shia-Sunni Unity – a mirage or reality?

0

by Imtiaz Ahmed

In this video, Al-Qaradawi says that he basically wasted his life on this Sunni-Shia unity business. He says that in unity only Shias benefit, Sunnis have nothing to benefit. In other words, as he is implying, unity is essentially a pretext for Shia to open up their Hussaynias and propagate Shi’ism in Sunni countries and to weaken traditional and authentic Sunnism.

Today in the international media there has been frequent article about the cold war between Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

And the whole issue is presented as a shear political struggle and there are many discussions happening also in social media with regards to Shia-Sunni unity and much hue and cry from the so called ‘intellectual’ and ‘moderate’ western educated Muslims calling for Shia-Sunni unity and portraying as though the Sunni scholars are not doing enough, especially the scholars of Ahlus Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah, who are upon the path of the pious predecessors. This has resulted in much confusion upon the common folks to understand what the right stance in this issue is.

A common question pops up in the minds of the Muslims is that – when the core principle of Islaam is unity & brotherhood and when Islaam has seen and tolerated different opinions amongst the scholars of different schools of thought in rich Islamic heritage, why not then Sunni-Shia unity possible?

Why are the Sunni scholars not doing much when Shia coming forward stretching their hand with peace?

With the good intention of uniting this Ummah some popular scholars and speakers have openly advocated Sunni-Shia unity. But what needs to be understood here is that the whole issue is not so simple as it seems, when we look into the Islamic history the picture is different.

Throughout the centuries the Sunni Muslims [85 per cent of the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims] extended their hands for unity and peaceful co-existence with the Shia and our history is filled with tragedies and back stabbing inflicted by this Shia, until recently a well-known and controversial Sunni cleric who worked decades for Sunni-Shia unity, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi an Egyptian Islamic theologian. He is the president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars.

He is one of those Scholars who strived hard to establish Sunni-Shia Unity. He traveled to Iran during the era of former President Mohammad Khatami for the same purpose. However, he was warned and criticized by intelligent Sunni scholars who knew Shias much better than him. They warned him that he will be back-stabbed, he will be deceived, just like the other Sunnis in the past have been. Yet Al-Qaradawi continued.

We would like to present one example for our readers to understand the dedication of Al-Qaradawi to establish Sunni-Shia Unity.

“In 2006, in response to Scholar Abdullah Ibn Jibreen’s fatwa declaring that it was forbidden for Muslims to support or pray for Hezbollah because they are Shia, al-Qaradawi issued a contrary fatwa, stating that it was mandatory for all Muslims to support Hezbollah in its fight against Israel, stating that “Shias agree with the Sunnis in the main principles of Islam while the differences are only over the branches.”

But now after years, Al-Qardawi tasted the truth and shared his experience, which we consider to be beneficial for moderate and ignorant Sunnis.

He says there is no scope for unity because Shia and Sunni don’t hold the same views on the Qur’an , on the Sunnah, the Sahabah, etc.

He also declared how scholars of Saudi Arabia were farsighted than him and it was big mistake from his part not to pay heed to them.

As a common Muslim, to understand and have a clear picture of this whole issue we need to go back in history and find out how this group came into existence and how they developed and what were their beliefs and what is their reality.

This is the intent of this treatise to provide a vivid picture about reality of Shias from historic and academic scholarship.

World’s tallest Statue upsets all Indian farmers

0

On 31 October India will unveil the world’s tallest statue, which has cost hundreds of millions of dollars. BBC Gujarati’s Roxy Gagdekar spoke to local farmers who say they are aghast that the government has spent so much money on it while they struggle to make ends meet.

For years Vijendra Tadvi, a 39-year-old farmer in the western state of Gujarat, has been struggling to find water to irrigate his three acres (1.2 hectares) of farmland.

He grows chilli, corn and groundnuts. Like millions of farmers across India, he relies on monsoon rains to water his crops. or he pumps out groundwater, which supports 80% of the rural water supply and farm irrigation. But long dry summers followed by erratic rains have led to frequent drought and shrunk the incomes of farmers like Mr Tadvi.

So in 2015, Mr Tadvi found a job as a driver on a construction site to supplement his income. The Gujarat state government was building a 182m (600ft) high statue, billed as the tallest in the world.

The bronze-clad tribute to Indian independence leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel cost 29.9bn rupees (£330m; $430m). And Gujarat’s government is reported to have paid more than half of that amount. The remainder came from the federal government or public donations.

“Instead of spending money on a giant statue, the government should have used it for farmers in the district,” Mr Tadvi said, adding that farmers in the area still lack basic irrigation facilities.

The statue is complete and Mr Tadvi has found more work as a driver on construction sites. But he is still unimpressed by the government’s largesse.

The “statue of unity”, as it is known, is the centrepiece of a sprawling memorial to Patel. A formidable nationalist leader, he was born in Gujarat and went on to become independent India’s first interior minister and deputy prime minister under Jawaharlal Nehru.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is also from Gujarat, commissioned the statue when he was the state’s chief minister in 2010. In recent years, Mr Modi’s ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has embraced Patel in an attempt to claim his legacy – and they have accused the opposition Congress party of sidelining him to benefit Nehru’s descendants, three of whom have served as prime ministers.

Congress ruled India for 49 of its 71 years as an independent nation.

The plan for Patel’s memorial includes a three-star hotel, a museum and a research centre that will focus on subjects “close to his heart” – such as “good governance” and “agriculture development”.

All of this is about 10km (6.2 miles) from Mr Tadvi’s village, Nana Pipaliya, in the largely poor, rural and tribal Narmada district. Many of its households continue to live in hunger, primary school enrolment has been falling and malnourishment persists, according to a report published in 2016 by the state government.

But the government believes the memorial will boost the district’s economy, as they expect about 2.5 million annual visitors. “It will lead to employment opportunities for locals and will also increase tourism in the area,” said Sandeep Kumar, a senior official involved with the project.

Locals are sceptical. “We want to ask the government: why can’t they fund a project to support farmers and improve their standard of life?” said Lakhan, a tribal activist who only goes by his first name. “We were promised water for irrigation but the situation remains the same.”

Nana Pipaliya is in what is known as a “command area” of a nearby dam – lands that are supposed to receive water from a designated irrigation project. But, Mr Tadvi said, he and other farmers were still deprived of water.

“I grow only one crop per year, while people with irrigation facilities grow up to three crops annually,” said Bhola Tadvi, a farmer who relies solely on rainwater for irrigation.

According to the 2011 census, some 85% of the district’s working population is engaged in agriculture, a sector which is dominated by small farmers who own two to four acres of land.

District officials told BBC Gujarati that the government was committed to ensuring that water was made available to them. Lakhan said thousands of farmers were struggling to access water for irrigation.

Half of India’s population works on farms, but farming contributes only 15% to the country’s GDP.

In fact, agriculture growth in India has dwindled to 1.2%. Farms employ a lot of people but produce too little, and tens of thousands of farmers struggle to repay crop loans taken from banks and money lenders.

Earlier this year, farmers in the neighbouring state of Maharashtra staged a massive protest demanding a waiver on the repayment of loans and better prices for their crops.

In 2017, farmers from drought-affected districts in the southern state of Tamil Nadu brandished human skulls and a held live mice between their teeth to draw attention to their plight.

Here in the shadow of Patel’s statue, farmers have resorted to stealing water. They say they can see the water passing by their farms through a canal that transports it from the dam, but it’s illegal to divert the water so they are forced to steal it.

One of the farmers said he had laid a pipe underground from the canal to his farm, adding that nearly all farmers in the area did this to survive.

“We don’t have any option but to take the water illegally as there are no sources of water left for us.”

Saudi Police raids secret Halloween party in Riyadh

Riyadh – Saudi Police have arrested total 24 people from a private resort from the Thumama area of Riyadh for conducting a secret Halloween party on Saturday night.

According to local media reports, two Saudi men, one Sudani man, one Yemeni man, one Egyptian man, 19 Filipino women rented a private ‘Istiraha’ or resort to organize a secret Halloween party. All the participants were invited through social media advertisement.

Among the arrested were, men and women from different nationalities in their horrific Halloween costumes. Also, there were illegal foreigners.

Neighbors heard heavy commotion and loud music from the resort, eventually, they called Police. Police immediately arrested all the organizers and participants.

Halloween parties and new year celebrations are strictly prohibited in the Kingdom.

According to the national.ae, many Saudis voiced their displeasure on Twitter following the online publication of photos of the costumed partygoers, who were reportedly attendees of the Riyadh party. Others voiced concern that the party may have been serving alcohol, which is illegal in the Kingdom.

Embassy of Philippines in Riyadh issued a warning circular to its nationals to strictly refrain from unsanctioned gatherings in Saudi Arabia, that involves mixed gatherings, consuming alcohol, and holding public practices of traditions that are against Islam such as Halloween, Valentines and Christmas.

Nine-years-old Boy gets beheaded to appease goddess Durga in Odisha

Odisha – Finally, Odisha Police were able to solve the ghastly case of human-sacrifice to appease Hindu goddess that took place in Bolangir district.

On 13th October, a nine-year-old boy was beheaded by his own brother and uncle on the riverbed of Sundhimunda village to appease goddess Durga in order to fulfill their wishes.

“We started the investigation suspecting it to be a case of human sacrifice. During the interrogation, one of the two accused confessed to the crime,” Titlagarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Saroj Mohapatra told reporters.

India ranks among top in the world in dark-arts and practicing black-magic.

An incident of the same pattern occurred in 2017 during Durga Puja celebrations in the same region.

According to Sanal Edamaruku, president of the Indian Rationalist Association, India is home to thousands of practising tantrics who perform the ritual.

The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), an office attached to the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, started collecting data on human sacrifices in 2014, and reported that 51 such murders took place in 14 of 29 Indian states between 2014 and 2016.

The highest numbers were reported in Uttar Pradesh (nine) and Jharkhand (eight), while Maharashtra, during the same period, reported two.

Indian law deems human-sacrifice punishable offence, yet the horrible ritual is still practiced in the rural areas, while the urban followers of tantriks do away with animal sacrifice to appease their gods and goddesses.
