Award-winning Hyderabad Police officer gets arrested for demanding bribe

Hyderabad – Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials arrested a sub-inspector of Police, who was awarded by former Director General of Police – Mahender Reddy, on the charges of demanding bribe.

The accused SI Sarangapani worked at Mirchowk Police station of old city part of Hyderabad. ACB officials arrested him for demanding Rs. 2 lacs bribe.

According to NDTV report, the SI was well-reputed for promptly solving complicated cases, for which he received award from former DGP of Police.

He had come under radar after a former employee of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) – Anil Kumar – filed a cheating case against his friend, and after court ordered the accused to pay back Rs 2 Lacs, the SI allegedly demanded Kumar to give him the money, eventually, Kumar filed a case with ACB against the SI.

The ACB tricked to catch the SI red-handed, they asked Kumar to carry Rs. 50,000 as advance to hand over to the SI. However, the SI sent his constable to collect the money. The ACB pounced on the constable as well as the SI.

ACB provides power to the citizens to file complaints against the government officials if they demand bribes, by calling on toll free number 1064.
