Woman commits suicide after Husband justifies Adultery with Supreme Court Judgement

0

Chennai – A 24-years-old married woman in Chennai committed suicide on Saturday night after her husband justified sleeping with another woman ‘not a crime’ based on Supreme Court’s decriminalization of Adultery law three days ago.

According to Police, Pushpalatha wife of John Paul Franklin (27) – resident of Bharathi Nagar, Nesapakkam – committed suicide at MGR Nagar after her husband, a watchman, challenged her legally based on SC’s judgement that she has no right to interfere and stop him from sleeping with another woman.

This is the first casualty reported in India after the Supreme Court ruled on Thursday decriminalizing adultery.

Earlier married couple could enjoy justice under Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code, the adulterer could face five years of jail term.

The couple had a love marriage after a strong opposition from their families. The couple had a child, police said.

Franklin began distancing from his wife soon she was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was undergoing treatment. Franklin who works as a security guard at a corporation park in the locality did not help her financially.

Pushpalatha’s suspicion became strong as he started returning home late at nights. She picked up a fight with him after she came to know about his extra-marital affair.

Franklin turned deaf ears when she threatened to file a police complaint. “He went to the extent of telling her that she cannot book a case against him as the Supreme Court had ruled that extramarital affair was no more a crime,” said an investigating officer.

She was dejected over the failure of the law to protect her dignity so she decided to end her life by hanging herself, said one of her relatives who later informed MGR Nagar Police about the suicide.

Franklin has been arrested and is under investigation.

However, as per the Supreme Court, if adultery leads to a person’s suicide, the spouse responsible for it shall be detained by Police.

Indian Army angry over Surgical strikes celebrations, calls it “Political game”

0

The BJP-led Union government’s decision to celebrate the second anniversary of the surgical strike has not gone down well with the armed forces. Several serving and retired uniformed persons have expressed dissatisfaction over the three-day nationwide celebration, named ‘Parakram Parv’, as they feel it is only aimed at gaining political mileage.

“Army was given a task. It was completed successfully. Done and dusted. After that whatever has happened is all politics, which no fauji is appreciating,” said retired brigadier Sandeep Thapar.

Special forces of the Army carried out “surgical strikes” on September 29, 2016, on seven terror launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), killing several terrorists. The operation was in response to an attack on the Army camp in Uri by Pakistan-based terrorists, in which 19 Indian soldiers lost their lives.

Army Chief Rawat says there is need for another surgical strikeSurgical strike anniversary ‘celebration’ a political tool, says ex-soldier.

As serving officers are not authorised to air their views, veterans have come forward to speak up on the issue by stressing that covert operations should always be kept secret and not be talked about to win political battles.

“In case of such cross-border strikes, it is always good to talk less. Surgical strike is a perpetual kind of threat to the enemy. Enemy should always be kept in dark or in suspense over the next move. When you talk about it, you give away something to the enemy. By releasing videos, you are giving away your weapons or route. You are foreclosing some of those options for future raids, if we have to,” Thapar said.

Military is also surprised with the government’s decision because there were no celebrations last year to mark the first anniversary of the cross-border strike.

“It was a professional task for the armed force. Action spoke for themselves. Celebrating this, to my mind, is beyond this framework,” said an officer, who did not wish to be named.

Lt General H.S. Panag, former Northern Army commander, said that there is nothing to celebrate. “We have done such operations on the Line of Control earlier also. And these are all local and tactical-level operations. It happens quite regularly. But this time we declared it. It was just a demonstration and a message to Pakistan that we can do such act,” Panag told THE WEEK

He added: “But (we) did not succeed in achieving the strategic aim of the surgical strike. First, Pakistan Army has ridiculed the strike and continued to send infiltrators. Second, they even stepped up the insurgency in Kashmir valley. Ten days before the second anniversary, they mutilated the body of a BSF jawan. And three policemen were killed in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has paid scant attention to whatever warning you gave them.”

However, the defence ministry claimed that the surgical strike conducted in 2016 had strategic ramifications and were aimed to dissuade the inimical adversary from adopting the path of violence and to ensure an environment of peace for the nation.

Former director general of military operations, Lt General Vinod Bhatia, tweeted: “Over-hyped commemoration of surgical strikes for political mileage (is) counterproductive as it foreclosed future options for such strikes.”

The three-day celebrations over this weekend will be held in 51 cities all over the country and the main event is happening at the India Gate in Delhi. The three defence forces—Army, Navy and Air Force—will be taking part in the mega celebrations.

Public exhibitions including a ‘selfie wall’, showing representative videos and a portion of the original footage of the strikes, and stalls displaying equipment of the three defence services are being organised at the events.

Several colleges and educational institutions have planned the celebration after the University Grants Commission (UGC) issued a circular to all universities regarding this. They will conduct talk sessions by ex-servicemen about sacrifices by the armed forces, special parades by the NCC and exhibitions among other events.

In Delhi, the event will be opened from 11 am to 10 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Military equipment including seized weapons of militants would be displayed.

Maj Gen(retd) Satbir Singh, who led the campaign for implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP), said, “Surgical strikes are carried out routinely by our armed forces. It is part of our training. In 2016 also, our armed forces carried out an excellent operation. Yes, our soldiers should be congratulated for such operations, but it should happen in a different manner. We do not want the government to use surgical strikes for deriving political advantage. The government should not look at us as just a vote bank.”

Open fire at the witnesses of Pehlu Khan Case heading towards the Court

JAIPUR – The key-witnesses of the mob-lynching of Pehlu Khan case were shot on Saturday morning as they were heading towards Behror court to testify the case.

The four key-witnesses were Rafique, Azmat, Arif, Irshad. Arif and Irshad are Pehlu’s sons. Their lawyer said, they were heading to the court from neighbouring Haryana’s Jaisinghpur, when a black Scorpio SUV tried to overtake their Bolero.

The witnesses then headed to Alwar to file a police complaint.

When the witnesses did not pull over, the men inside the Scorpio opened fire upon them. The Scorpio did not have a registration plate.

“When we did not stop… the man in the back seat of the Scorpio fired at our Bolero, the bullet whizzed past the left side of our vehicle. We heard the sound of one shot… the Scorpio overtook us and so we turned back. We decided not to go ahead,” said Irshad’s complaint.

“We have recorded their complaint and are verifying the facts mentioned in it. We have also offered them police protection and an escort vehicle if required. We have assured the delegation that has met us today of complete security,” a police officer said.

In April last year, Pehlu Khan, 55, was beaten to death on suspicion of cattle smuggling. A group of attackers was seen grabbing Khan by the neck, bashing his head to the ground, kicking and punching him.

Police had arrested and charged nine men; all of whom are out on bail.

She enrolled in the faculty of media and communications because she loves the media sector.

“The day I was accepted into college was like a feast for me,” she said, adding that her mother always encouraged her to finish her education but unfortunately she died last year and did not get a chance to see her graduate.

She appreciated her children as well as her friends who supported her in education as well as house-hold responsibilities.

“Adarsh-Bahu” academic course to be launched by BJP in Madhya Pradesh Universities

0

“How about a course for grooming men to become adarsh husbands beginning with Narendra Modi? Why is the government trying to train only women?”

A state-run university in India has launched a new course to produce adarsh bahus, or ideal daughters-in-law, igniting derision and revulsion in equal measure in the world’s largest democracy of over 1.3 billion people.

The sudden move by Hindu nationalists to churn out obedient and subservient wives is pathetic considering that today’s India is the most dangerous country in the world for young women. If anyone needs schooling or disciplining, it is the men and not women – not by a long shot.

D.C. Gupta, Vice Chancellor of Barkatullah University in Bhopal, capital of Madhya Pradesh state, says that the objective of the new course is to inculcate what he describes as “family values” in would-be brides.

Most VCs are pompous and Gupta perfectly exemplifies the trait. Launching the adarsh bahu course, he announced: “Universities have responsibilities towards society. So how can we restrict ourselves to academics? It’s our duty to ensure that marriages last…”

“And marriages last if the new bride adjusts with her husband’s family. We will teach would-be brides that the family is sacrosanct and provide tips to reduce conflict. Marriages will last only if families last. If families break up, so will marriages.”

Gupta says that the course will ultimately “empower” women and inputs from sociology and psychology will equip them to safely steer their marriage avoiding flashpoints which can lead to divorce.

Asks Divya Spandan, the outspoken Congress Party spokesperson: “How about a course for grooming men to become adarsh husbands beginning with Narendra Modi? Why is the government trying to train only women?”

“The Sangh Parivaar, of which the BJP is an integral part, has a particular mold into which it needs women to fit so that it can include them, in some capacity, in its hyper-masculine narrative of nationalism. And the adarsh bahu course is simply an extension of that ideology”, Sinjini Mukherjee, a PhD in socio-cultural anthropology from Hiedelberg University, who works on questions of gender and health in India, told Media.

Shushma Swaraj proudly addresses UN in Hindi, criticises Pakistan for aiding terrorism

0

External affairs minister of India – Sushma Swaraj blamed Pakistan’s continued support of terror for stalled peace efforts between the subcontinental neighbours, and defended India’s record on human rights, saying there was no bigger transgressor of rights than terrorists. Pakistan “glorifies killers” and “refuses to see the blood of innocents,” she said.

Swaraj, who spoke in Hindi, said Pakistan’s commitment to terrorism as an instrument of official policy and “belief in hypocrisy” continues. She said, “The killers of 9/11 met their fate, but the mastermind of 26/11, Hafiz Saeed, still roams the streets of Pakistan with impunity, organising rallies and participating in elections.”

“Our neighbour’s expertise is not restricted to spawning grounds for terrorism; it is also an expert in trying to mask malevolence with verbal duplicity,” Swaraj said in her fourth address to the world body.

“Cruelty and barbarism are advertised as heroism. The country prints postage stamps glorifying terrorists,” she added in a tacit reference to Pakistan. “If we do not act now, we will have to deal with conflagration later.”

She blamed Islamabad’s continued support for terror for the failure of peace efforts between the two countries. “We are accused of sabotaging the process of talks,” she said, adding, “This is a complete lie.”

India wants talks as it believes they are the only way to resolve the most complex disputes. India has been trying to do so, irrespective of the party heading the government, she said.

Swaraj said India accepted Prime Minister Imran Khan’s offer of talks, and she was scheduled to meet her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi in New York on the sidelines of the General Assembly.

“But, within hours of our acceptance, news came that terrorists had killed three of our jawans,” she said. “Does this indicate a desire for dialogue?”

Israel brutally kills Six Palestinians on the Gaza Border

Gaza – Israeli forces killed six Palestinians including a 14-years-old teenager in the fresh clashes that broke on Friday on the borders of Gaza.

Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told AFP that Mohammed al-Houm, 14, and Iyad Al-Shaar, 18, were shot in separate incidents “by live ammunition from the (Israeli) occupation forces”.

The Israeli army said some 20,000 “rioters” had gathered at multiple sites along the border.

Israel blames the protestors of hurling “grenades and explosive devices in several different locations”.

Palestinians have been protesting at least weekly along the Gaza border since March.

Israel has brutally massacred at least 191 Palestinians during that time of border protests.

The protesters demand the right of Palestinian refugees to be allowed to return to their homes, now in Israel.

Israel fears any such mass return to their original homes will end the Jewish occupation.

Constable Prashant Kumar who fired at the car, and his colleague Sandeep Kumar, were arrested after police registered an FIR on Khan’s complaint.

Director General of police OP Singh said the initial probe suggests Prashant acted wrongly. “Initial findings suggest that the constable acted beyond the limit of self defence,” said Singh, adding that the case of murder has been filed and a fair investigation will be done.

Tiwari was injured on the neck after the constable fired at the car’s windshield.

The vehicle then rammed the pillar of a bridge. More details are awaited.

“Mosques are not integral part of Islam”, said the Supreme Court. Really?

0

If mosques are not seen as an integral part of Islam, then what are they? Why do the Muslims pray in the mosques? Why do they construct mosques from the very lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

First argument

They say that the prayers can be prayed anywhere in the world. And that little understanding made them conclude that the mosques (masjids) are not the integral part of Islam.

Hence to them, the entire world has replaced the status of the mosques. Therefore it would also mean that “the mosques are not an integral part of Islam, the whole world is an integral part of Islam”.

Since the whole world is now the integral part of Islam; because the prayers can be prayed anywhere in the world, then it would also mean that the “mosques in the whole world are all part of that integral part of Islam”.

That’s because all the mosques are within the world – the integral part of Islam. This is just simple reasoning based on what is inferred from the basic statements that are aired.

The next argument

Are mosques not an integral part of Islam? Then is the church an integral part of Christianity? Is the Gurudwara an integral part of Sikhism? Is the temple an integral part of Hinduism? Is the synagogue an integral part of Judaism? Is the Jain temple an integral part of Jainism? Is the Buddhist temple an integral part of Buddhism?

Then what are the Popes, Purohits and Imaams doing out there? There are too many on the list.

Let me ask my simple question now: If mosques are not an integral part of Islam, then that would imply that the religious places are not an integral part of any religion. In that case, all churches and temples are also on the same status, since people pray to their gods too in those religious places.

If that is the case, then how only the mosques are in the discussions, while other religious places are not in the news? Are the minarets of the mosques poking the eyes? Just asking. Take it in good humour.

The third argument

Now it’s time for some real humour.

Are Mosques not an integral part of Islam? That would possibly and probably; and plausibly imply that the mosques are not required to pray the congregation prayers.

Now comes a reasoning mind in action. Based on that analogy, here comes the argument: Kitchens are not an integral part of a house since a person can eat in the hotels and canteens. Bedrooms are not an integral part of a house since people can sleep on the footpaths too. Aren’t people sleeping in the streets of India? Then what’s the problem!

Toilets are not an integral part of a house since people can take a leak on the highways and pathways. So what can we infer from this? People need not live in the houses, while they can sleep anywhere.

Please check the lovers in the parks; they are almost there. The parks have replaced the bedrooms to many of them. Do you agree with me?

If we go by this analogy, then people don’t need houses, when they can live anywhere anyhow. So, my conclusion is that houses are not an integral part of life.

Houses are not from the essentials to make a living! That’s syncing with the notion that the mosques are not an integral part of Islam. You may find me absurd.

The fourth argument

Now some serious thoughts.

How did some conclude that the mosques are not an integral part of Islam and that a person can pray in any part of the world? They came to this conclusion, because the Prophet of Islam, Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, the whole world is a place of sajdah (prostration), except the graveyard.

They have probably taken only one statement of the Prophet while having ignored too many other statements made by him.

The same Prophet also said: I feel like burning the houses of those men who didn’t join the congregational prayers in the masjid. But I stop myself from doing that, only due to the women and children in there.

So, here the Prophet is expressing the importance of praying in the masjids. He used to lead the congregations for the obligatory prayers in the masjids. And that is an established fact.

A blind man once met the Prophet and asked if it is obligatory for him to pray in the masjid since he was finding it hard to walk up to the masjid. The Prophet enquired whether the blind man could hear the azaan – the call for the prayer. The man answered in an affirmative. So the Prophet asked him to walk up to the masjid and pray his 5 daily obligatory prayers. Even a blind man is not exempted from praying in the masjids. That shows the place of a masjid in Islam.

The Friday sermons are given in masjids. People flood to the masjids every Friday. Marriages are conducted in the masjids, while the marriage registers are maintained by the masjid authorities. Funeral rites are conducted in the masjids. The masjids are places where the last rites for the dead are done.

Social services, conventions and many activities are undertaken through the masjids. And still, they say that the masjids are not an integral part of Islam! That’s a shocker for the Muslim scholarship.

The Prophet said that a person gets 27 times more rewards while praying in the masjid, than praying at home. There are many number of verses in the Quran and Hadeeth that talks about the rights of the masjids that needs to be observed. What to supplicate before entering the masjid? What to supplicate while exiting the masjid?

Everything is taught in great detail by our Prophet. That’s simply impeccable indeed. And still, they say that the masjid is not an integral part of Islam!

If mosques are not seen as an integral part of Islam, then what are they? Why do the Muslims pray in the mosques? Why do they construct mosques from the very lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Why were they constructed by Abraham and Ismael, even before thousands of years before the birth of the Prophet? Prophet Muhammad is the role model for the Muslims. Did the Prophet lead the 5 daily obligatory prayers in his house, or at mosques? Mosques!!! It’s only when the Prophet was travelling, while there was no mosque in the deserts, the Prophet led the congregational prayers in the wilderness.

Islam allows us to pray outside of the masjids too. But the first lookout in a place would be for a masjid to pray the 5 daily prayers. The 5 daily prayers are from pillars of Islam.

If prayers are from an integral part of Islam, then the places of prayers cannot be detached from the religion of Islam.

The first thing that the Prophet did when he established his rule in Madina was the construction of the masjid. And the first thing that the Prophet did when he entered Makka during the conquest of Makka, was to clean the masjids from pictures and idols.

He removed all the idols since the masjid that was built by Abraham was a place that was without idols. And therefore it had to return to its original form while it was built. And that shows what a Masjid is in Islam.

The next argument

If we go by what they say, it would mean that the prayers can be prayed in any place. So shall we pray in the Parliament?

So can we pray the congregational prayers at the temples, since the whole world is a place of worship? Can we pray at the shopping malls? Can we pray on the highway roads? Can we pray at the Supreme Court? The answer is: Yes, but conditions apply.

What are the conditions: The conditions are that the owner or the ones in authority of those places must permit to pray there, and the Muslims may pray there in such a manner that they don’t cause any discomfort to anyone there. Hence the Prophet forbade us from praying in pathways where people have to use them for walking.

So to my dear Muslims, please don’t get into any shopping mall and start praying in the congregation there. The Supreme Court ruling doesn’t mean that you can pray anywhere? Even if they said that the Muslims can pray anywhere, they don’t actually mean that. Then what do they want to say? Never mind.

Having said all of this, here is a reminder to the Muslims: To most of the Muslims in India, you stopped your women from entering masjids, and Allah has humiliated you.

You stopped your children from taking the front rows, and Allah has humiliated you. You don’t encourage the non-Muslims to visit your masjids, and Allah has humiliated you.

You commit shirk, kufr and bid’ah in the masjids, and Allah has humiliated you. And lastly, you don’t pray the 5 daily obligatory prayers in masjids, and Allah humiliated you.

The Prophet didn’t stop the women from praying in the masjids; nor did he forbid well-mannered children from taking the front rows in the masjids. He even had non-muslim guests visiting him inside the masjids. We have started to contradict him, and we are paying the price for that.

Even when the Prophet was in his deathbed, he asked his companions to carry him to the masjid to let him pray his obligatory prayers. He couldn’t even walk then; still, he wanted to pray the obligatory prayers in the masjid itself. And that incident can make any sane person understand the importance of the prayers and the status of the masjids where the prayers are conducted in congregations.

So, if the Muslims want humiliation to be removed, then they must return back to the Deen – religion of Islam, as taught by the Prophet himself.

Prayers are broadly classified into obligatory and voluntary prayers. The obligatory prayers are to be prayed in the masjids only for the men.

For women, they are permitted to pray either in the masjids or in their homes. They have their choice. And the voluntary prayers (for both men and women) may be prayed either in masjids or at homes, or at any place in the world that is clean and suitable for praying.

In the event of not being able to pray in the masjid, the next options are always open. But then prayers are to be offered every day, 5 times a day, until the last breath of one’s life. There’s not a single holiday for prayers. This is from the essence of the word “Islam”, which means “surrender to the will of Allah”.

My question to the people who say that the mosques are not an integral part of Islam: If they are not an integral part of Islam, then what are they? Please give an answer if you have.
