Istanbul – Turkish Government has approved cargo of medical equipment to Israel that includes face masks, protective overalls and sterile gloves to help the Jewish nation fight the COVID—19 outbreak.
According to a senior official in Ankara, three Israeli planes were expected to land on Thursday in southern Incirlik air base to pick the cargo. However, Israeli authorities weren’t immediately available to comment about the matter due to the pass-over holiday.
Turkey was the first Muslim majority country to recognize the State of Israel. Despite the Turkish-Israeli relations under current President Tayyip Erdogan look strained, the two countries have given high priority to military, strategic, and diplomatic cooperation.
In 2004, Erdogan’s government gave approval for holding a ceremony to commemorate the founder of the state of Israel, Theodor Herzl. The ceremony was held at the National Turkish Library.
Turkey and Israel are currently struggling against the coronavirus outbreak. The number of coronavirus cases in Israel now tops 9,400 and the death toll stands at 72, while Turkey’s coronavirus death toll reaches 812 with 38,226 total cases.
