Saudi Arabia Condemns Attack on Bahraini Soldiers near Yemen Border

Date:

Riyadh – Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned an attack on its territory that resulted in the death of two Bahraini military personnel near the southern border with Yemen. The attack, which occurred early Monday, was carried out by Yemen’s Houthi rebels using a drone.

The Saudi foreign ministry expressed its “condemnation and denunciation” of the attack on the defense force of the Kingdom of Bahrain stationed on the southern border. The official Saudi Press Agency reported the ministry’s statement, which extended deepest condolences to the leadership and people of Bahrain, as well as to the families of the fallen soldiers.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its support for Bahrain and reiterated its rejection of the continuous flow of weapons to the Houthi militia in Yemen. It also called for a ban on arms exports to Yemeni territories.

Bahrain’s military command confirmed that the drone attack by the Houthi rebels resulted in the deaths of two Bahraini soldiers, one of whom was an officer. The soldiers were patrolling the area when the incident occurred. The military command, in a statement carried by the state-run Bahrain News Agency, stated that a number of other Bahraini soldiers sustained injuries in the strike.

The Houthi rebels have not yet claimed responsibility for the attack, as efforts to reach a peace agreement between Riyadh and the rebels are ongoing.

In response to the incident, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) issued a statement on Tuesday, condemning the drone attack. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, the Secretary-General of the OIC, expressed deep condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, as well as to the government and citizens of Bahrain. He also wished a swift recovery for those injured in the attack.

Secretary-General Taha emphasized that such provocative actions were incompatible with the diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the Yemen crisis. He reaffirmed the OIC’s commitment to supporting diplomatic endeavors aimed at ending the conflict in Yemen and achieving lasting peace.

The attack on Bahraini soldiers near the Saudi-Yemen border highlights the ongoing challenges and tensions in the region. As diplomatic negotiations continue, it is crucial for all parties involved to work towards a peaceful resolution that ensures the stability and security of the region.
