New Delhi – In an inhumane incident in India’s capital city of New Delhi on Wednesday, passersby looted mangoes worth 30,000 Rupees from a street-vendor when he left his cart unattended for a short-while, NDTV-India reported.
The street-vendor identified as Phool Mia aka Chhote from north-Delhi’s Jagatpuri area said that, the incident took place when a fight broke out in the neighborhood at the time when law enforcement agencies were supposed to be on heightened alert to enforce coronavirus lockdown in the area.
“They had a fight over there, near the school. A group of men came here and asked me to move my theli (push cart),” Chhote said.
When the passersby saw the mango crates unattended, they pounced and looted whatever they could. Some of the bike-riders carried the mangoes in their helmets. Some of them were inviting others to come and pick-up the fruit.
Chhote said that he had 15 crates of mangoes and not a single one was left. Though he filed a police complaint, but the police couldn’t take any action.
NDTV posted the video online with an appeal to help Chhote with the donations.
Over the time, well-wishers and care-takers poured in some 8,00,000 Indian rupees of donations to help the street-vendor to resume his business.
Chhote thanked the media channel for highlighting his plight and helping him with the donations.
