New Delhi – During their military talks on Sunday, India and China agreed to maintain close communication and find a swift solution to the outstanding concerns in eastern Ladakh.
The Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Western Sector was the subject of a “frank and in-depth” discussion between the two sides, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The MEA stated that the parties “agreed to maintain close communication and dialogue through military and diplomatic channels and work out a mutually acceptable resolution of the outstanding issues as soon as possible”.
It stated that both parties had pledged to keep the area secure and stable.
The resolution of the pertinent issues along the LAC in the Western Sector were the subject of an open and thorough conversation between the two sides, according to the MEA, in order to improve bilateral ties and restore peace and tranquilly to the border regions.
Eastern Ladakh is referred to by the government as Western Sector.
The two foreign ministers “had an exchange of views in an open and candid manner”, according to the MEA, “in line with the guidance provided by the State Leaders and following the meeting between the two Foreign Ministers in March 2023”.
On Sunday, the Chushul-Moldo border meeting site on the Chinese side hosted the 18th session of Corps Commander level negotiations between India and China. The discussions took place days before Chinese Defence Minister Li Shangfu was scheduled to travel to India to attend a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting.
