Latakia – On Friday, the first day of the Eid ul-fitr holiday, the Emirates Red Crescent entertained 150 orphans and kids with cancer in the Latakia province in northwest Syria.
According to the Emirates News Agency, the Operation Gallant Knight 2 humanitarian effort was carried out in collaboration with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent as part of the UAE’s relief efforts to assist families affected by the devastating earthquake that struck Syria and the neighbouring country of Turkiye on February 6.
The event was carried out within the scope of the UAE’s ongoing measures to provide moral and psychological assistance for individuals impacted by the earthquake, according to Mohammed Al-Kaabi, the leader of the Emirati organization’s team in Syria.
The president of the Latakia-based Al-Bashaer Charity Association, Ghiath Sofi, hailed the UAE for its humanitarian efforts on behalf of the Syrian people. His organisation, he continued, “carries out a wide range of humanitarian activities, including support for orphans.”
According to Khaled Shoman of the Farah Association for Supporting Children with Cancer, which is based in Latakia, any initiative that makes young cancer patients happy through celebrations like those on Friday also makes their parents happy and inspires them to continue giving their children’s medical care while offering moral and psychological support.
According to UAE authorities, they are continuing their major efforts to support earthquake-affected Syrians and aid in their recovery and rebuilding by offering food and medical supplies in addition to social and psychological support.
More than 6,000 people died in Syria as a result of the earthquake, the most of them in the opposition-held northwest near the Turkish border.
