Riyadh — King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia has authorised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that gives the country the status of a conversation partner in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
A political, economic, international security, and defence organisation based in Eurasia is called the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Along with Iran soon joining, it currently consists of India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan.
According to SPA, the decision was made at a meeting of the Saudi Cabinet presided over by the King and held at Jeddah’s al-Salam Palace.
King Salman also gave the go-ahead for the start of technical and vocational training between the Kingdom and China during the meeting.
The Saudi leader emphasised the need to strengthen the ideals of discussion, tolerance, and respect while denouncing the burning of the holy Quran outside the Turkish consulate in Denmark last Friday.
Significant attempts have been made to strengthen ties between Saudi Arabia and China.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed his gratitude to China on Tuesday for helping to foster “excellent neighbourly relations” between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
Following the two countries’ severing of diplomatic ties in 2016, Saudi Arabia and Iran decided to resume relations on March 10 thanks to Chinese arbitration.
