Nokia wants to outperform its competitors and take the lead in the Indian market for private 5G networks
On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark to discuss India’s advancements in creating cutting-edge digital infrastructure. The meeting with the CEO of Nokia was “fruitful”, according to PM Modi’s tweet about it.
“A productive meeting with Mr. @PekkaLundmark, where we talked about technology-related topics and how to use it for societal good. We also talked about India’s progress in creating cutting-edge digital infrastructure”, PM Modi tweeted.
Lundmark also stated on Twitter that it was an honour to meet with Prime Minister Modi and go over how Nokia is assisting India with its 5G journey, the next stage of its digital transformation, and its plans for 6G.
Nokia wants to dominate the Indian private 5G market
Nokia wants to outperform its competitors and take the lead in the Indian market for private 5G networks, which the Finnish telecom equipment manufacturer projects would reach $240 million in sales by 2027 and have a deployment potential of over 2,400 sites nationwide.
“With more than 500 deployments worldwide, we have held a leadership position in private networks. This industry is expanding quickly, and we observe a similar trend in India as well, according to Nokia India Chief Marketing Officer Amit Marwah.
India is anticipated to invest between $240 million and $250 million in private wireless networks by 2027, according to the Nokia Mobile Broadband Index report published in February.
In the upcoming quarters, according to Marwah, the first few private networks should begin to emerge, particularly in the industries of transportation, manufacturing, healthcare, and utilities, which are anticipated to receive the highest proportion of enterprise investments.
The government still needs to settle on the bands of the airwaves and the price of the airwaves that will be supplied to businesses without going through an auction before it can finalise its plan for allocating 5G airwaves for 5G private networks to them.
