Odisha – Finally, Odisha Police were able to solve the ghastly case of human-sacrifice to appease Hindu goddess that took place in Bolangir district.
On 13th October, a nine-year-old boy was beheaded by his own brother and uncle on the riverbed of Sundhimunda village to appease goddess Durga in order to fulfill their wishes.
“We started the investigation suspecting it to be a case of human sacrifice. During the interrogation, one of the two accused confessed to the crime,” Titlagarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Saroj Mohapatra told reporters.
India ranks among top in the world in dark-arts and practicing black-magic.
An incident of the same pattern occurred in 2017 during Durga Puja celebrations in the same region.
According to Sanal Edamaruku, president of the Indian Rationalist Association, India is home to thousands of practising tantrics who perform the ritual.
The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), an office attached to the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, started collecting data on human sacrifices in 2014, and reported that 51 such murders took place in 14 of 29 Indian states between 2014 and 2016.
The highest numbers were reported in Uttar Pradesh (nine) and Jharkhand (eight), while Maharashtra, during the same period, reported two.
Indian law deems human-sacrifice punishable offence, yet the horrible ritual is still practiced in the rural areas, while the urban followers of tantriks do away with animal sacrifice to appease their gods and goddesses.
