UAE President Orders Release of 1,295 Inmates for Ramadan
Abu Dhabi — In a gesture of compassion to mark the holy month of Ramadan, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan has ordered the release of 1,295 inmates from the country’s correctional facilities, state news agency WAM reported on Thursday.
Along with granting their freedom, Sheikh Mohamed has also pledged to settle the financial obligations of those released, ensuring they have a fresh start in life. The initiative aims to ease the burden on their families and help reintegrate them into society.
The annual tradition of pardoning prisoners during Ramadan reflects the UAE’s commitment to fostering stability within households and the wider community. By alleviating hardships faced by families, the leadership seeks to promote forgiveness, second chances, and social cohesion, WAM reported.
The decision underscores the humanitarian values of the UAE, aligning with the spirit of Ramadan, a time of generosity, reflection, and renewal.
