Saudi Arabia’s prestigious scholar Sheikh Saleh Al-Luhaidan passes away

Riyadh — Saudi Arabia’s senior and prestigious religious scholar, Sheikh Saleh Al-Luhaidan, passed away on Wednesday after a prolonged illness.

90-years-old, Sheikh Al-Luhaidan was born in the city of Bukayriyah in the Qassim region, and held several positions, including a member of the Council of Senior Scholars since its establishment, a member of the Muslim World League, and the former head of the Supreme Judicial Council.

He also served as editor-in-chief of the “Raya al-Islam” magazine, and served as a secretary to the head of scientific research and official Ifta – Fatwa Committee of Saudi Arabia.

  • He graduated from the Faculty of Sharee’ah in Riyadh during 1959-60.
  • He worked as a secretary for his eminence the former Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Mohammed bin Ibraheem.
  • He was appointed as an assistant to the president of the Supreme Court in Riyadh during 1964-65.
  • He became the president of the Supreme Court in Riyadh during 1964-65.
  • He obtained a Masters Degree from the Higher Institution of Justice during 1969-70.
  • He was appointed as a member of the Supreme Committee of Judicial Affairs during 1970-71.
  • He was appointed as a member of The Committee of Major Scholars since it was established during 1972-73.
  • He became the president of the Permanent Supreme Committee of Judicial Affairs during 1983-84.
  • During 1992-93 he was appointed president of both the General and the Permanent Commitees.
  • He is a member of Muslim World League.

Muslim scholars and students on social media mourned his death and prayed for him.

Sheikh Al-Luhaidan’s funeral will be held on Wednesday at Riyadh’s Jamiah Al Rajihi mosque, after Asr prayers (2:59 pm).
