Red alert in Maharastra after a low-intensity blast occurred near Mumbai and IED found in Raigad by ATS team

Date:

Mumbai – Mumbai Police declared high alert on Wednesday after a low intensity blast took place on a Mira road in Mumbai and an IED was found on a public transport bus in Raigad district of Maharastra on the same night.

Maharastra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has started investigating the two incidents and the Police said that, the blast at Mira road was not sophisticated as it had only metal balls, however the explosives found in Raigad district could cause serious damage.

The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) collected some sample of metal balls, jute diffuse, and some unknown powder from the spot on Mira road, and after diffusing the IED found in the public bus, they sent the samples to Mumbai Forensic Science Laboratory for further verification.

“The explosive device found in Raigad district is sophisticated as it contains a power source, detonator and was definitely planted with a serious intention. As of now we haven’t found any similarities between the device that exploded in Mira Road and the one found in Raigad district,” said Naval Bajaj, IG of Kokan Range.

The issue came to light, when a bus conductor with the state transport department found the IED and instantly alerted the Rasayani Police at 10:30pm on Wednesday night.

Police rushed to the spot and with the help of BDDS, the IED was diffused.

Superintendent of Police, Raigad district, Anil Paraskar said, “The bus conductor was vigilant and when he found the suspicious bomb-like device on the bus, he alerted police.

Maharashtra ATS chief Atulchandra Kulkarni also said that teams of ATS were on the spot in Raigad district and were verifying the details of the incident.
