Alireza Nader The Hashd and Hezbollah do what they do best: intimidate, harass, and if need be, torture and kill.

Alireza Nader

The Hashd and Hezbollah do what they do best: intimidate, harass, and if need be, torture and kill. But their presence in Iran shows a critical weakness for Khamenei as well.

Recent floods in Iran have killed dozens and displaced possibly millions of Iranians. Instead of helping them, most of the Islamic Republic’s time and energy has gone into sending foreign Hashd al Shaabi and Hezbollah fighters into Khuzestan.

These forces have engaged in light flood repair for show, but in reality they lack the equipment or skills to do any serious flood relief. Instead, they’re in southwestern Iran because Ayatollah Khamenei fears a revolt. The Hashd and Hezbollah do what they do best: intimidate, harass, and if need be, torture and kill. But their presence in Iran shows a critical weakness for Khamenei as well. And it may prove one of the bigger mistakes he has made.

The floods and the regime’s unwillingness and incompetence have led to widespread anger against the regime in Khuzestan and Lorestan provinces. Many of the Iranians affected are ethnic minorities such as Arabs, Lors, Bakhtiaris, and many others. The Arabs have in particular been a subject of the harshest of discriminations.

Although Khuzestan houses Iran’s oil wealth, Arab Iranians have received very little of it. They are poor and neglected, but still fierce and resilient. Like millions of other Iranians, they have taken to the streets for the past sixteen months in protest against a corrupt and mafia like regime. No wonder the Islamic Republic establishment is afraid. Not only Arab Iranians, but the Lors, are some of the fiercest and most independent peoples that make up the Iranian nation.

Thousands of foreign forces appear to have been allowed into Iran by Khamenei. Many come from some of the most violent regional armed conflicts; both Hezbollah and the Hashd are used by Khamenei to control Lebanon, Syria, and parts of Iraq. Hezbollah has been the vanguard of the Assad regime’s genocidal quest to suppress Syria’s opposition; the Hashd have been responsible for religious cleansing and systematic executions throughout Iraq.

But their presence on Iranian soil shows that Khamenei may not fully trust his own security forces, including the Basij and the Revolutionary Guards. Iranians are less likely to kill their own brothers and sisters while mercenaries like Hezbollah and the Hashd are less caring of Iranians.

The regime has faced the floods at the worst time possible. It is under severe economic pressure and could soon see a near total economic blockade through sanctions. The regime can hardly afford the estimated nearly ten billion dollars in flood damages. And the vast majority of Iranians want Khamenei and his regime gone forever. But they fear an uncertain future if the regime falls.

America should put as much as sanctions pressure on Hezbollah and the Hashd as possible. They’re the enemies and occupiers of the Iranian people. The Hahshd in particular should come under greater sanctions as the U.S. pressures Baghdad to reign in pro-Khamenei groups. Iran may be strong in Iraq, but its influence has weakened in the face of popular Iraqi riots against Khamenei’s regime. The U.S. should also launch an information operation campaign both against Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Hashd in Iraq. Many Lebanese and Iraqis share Iranians’ hatred of Khamenei and his mercenary armies.

As the U.S. puts pressure on the regime’s external mercenaries, a closer look at the regime’s lobbies and influence networks in America, Canada, and Europe are urgently warranted. For too long, many of these groups have engaged in shady activities trying to sway public opinion and manipulate politicians.

The future presence of Khamenei’s mercenaries wouldn’t be a surprise in bigger cities such as Shiraz, Kermanshah, Esfahan, or even in Tehran for that matter. But if there is one thing that angers Iranians, it is the presence of foreign occupiers on their soil. Iran has conquered and been conquered in the last three thousand years, but it has always remained Iranian.

Washington is wise to mimic the cries of Iranians striving to free their nation of forty years of tyranny. An emphasis on America’s opposition to the foreign occupation of Iran would reassure Iranians struggling for a future free of tyranny and abyssal darkness.

More persistent, robust and revealing journalism from foreign based Farsi media including US international broadcasters, regular outreach to the Iranian democratic opposition, and targeting of regime lobbies and former officials in the West are likely to be steps welcomed by Iranians seeking freedom. The message: Iran may be occupied now, but it won’t be occupied forever.

by Qamar Falahi

These days, everyone seem to be inspecting and scrutinizing Saudi Arabia and it’s esteemed scholars. But who is it that has given them the right to do so, a question that can never be answered. While we continue to ignore our stained and crumpled shirts, yet observe the slightly worn-out collars of others. We all stand enthusiastically in the queue, as commentators, reformers and scholars – judging Saudi Arabia.

While there is no objection on those who diligently follow the Saudi government and respect their decisions, however it are the antagonist who refuse and fail to control and check their tongues.

“This is what Saudi Arabia and their Scholars should have done for Palestine and the Ummah” – is the usual casual demand and examen – as if Allah Almighty had revealed this divine responsibility exclusively upon Saudi Arabia, while the rest of the muslims were exonerated. We have not been given the rights to criticize, judge or hold to accountability.

The only responsibility of the Saudi government is the maintenance and protection of the Haramain, to keep them free of idols and to serve the honorable pilgrims of Allah Almighty. Yes, if there were flaws or insufficient preparations regarding the pilgrimage, then we can help the Saudi government to identify the shortcomings and rectify them.

Besides, all muslims are equally responsible for Palestine and on all matters concerning the grievances of the Ummah.

Saudi government’s collective decision to sever diplomatic and economic ties with Qatar, is their internal matter. When we ourselves cut off ties with our relatives, not meeting them for years, leaves us not in a position to criticize others. Our throat goes dry reprehending others, yet ignoring self conduct. How is this justice?

Ungratefulness and thanklessness is as such, it is never appreciated how much the Saudi government has generously served and benevolently gifted the Ummah. Statistics are available online for us to verify and can be confirmed through our respective embassies.

Were they blessed with oil, because we prayed for them? Were they blessed to rule as rulers over the Haramain, because we prayed for them? Not at all!

I have never come across any Quranic verse or Hadith that has categorically been addressed to the Saudi government, rather the verses have addressed the entire Muslim Ummah who shall be accountable for what they sow.

Kashmir — Saudi Foreign Minister reiterated on Wednesday in a Televised interview that Kingdom supports United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions to resolve Kashmir’s dispute between India and Pakistan, and both countries should initiate talks to preserve Kashmiri interest.

“We have said there are UN resolutions with regard to Kashmir that Saudi Arabia supports,” the 57-year-old Saudi FM, Adel al-Jubeir, said to India Today TV.

He spoke in favor of Kashmiris and said that the Kingdom has always backed the two countries to sit at the negotiating table and resolve the conflict amicably.

“We believe where there is good will and honest dialogue a resolution to this issue can be achieved,” he enthused.

However, he politely refused to comment without knowledge on whether Pakistan has been responsible for “cross border terrorism”, “I am not aware of that”—he politely declined.

During the Crown Prince’s visit to India, he promised to cordinate with India in intelligence sharing and combatting extremism that has posed threat to both the nations.

by Shyna Kalra Shadab Hussain, a resident of Kota, Rajasthan has emerged as the topper of the CA (old syllabus)

by Shyna Kalra

Shadab Hussain, a resident of Kota, Rajasthan has emerged as the topper of the CA (old syllabus) final exam, results of which were announced today by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Hussain has scored 597 out of 800 with a 74.63 per cent marks.

Hussain has earned B.Com degree from Kota University. His father is a tailor and has studied till class 10. His mother is a school drop-out. He is the only brother of four sisters. Despite his parents being less educated, they worked hard to give him proper schooling.

“I studied day-and-night to earn a job so that my parents do not have to bother about their old age. I thought of Chartered Accountancy (CA) to be a niche profession where one can learn throughout their life. After due consideration and research I set my mind to become a CA,” Hussain told indianexpress.com.

The 23-year-old devoted 14-13 hours each day to self-study and was expecting to be among the top scorers. “This is the biggest achievement in my family. I was expecting a good rank since I was also among top scorers in the Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) exam,” he said.

Keeping one’s mind calm during higher studies and analysing what one has studied is the key to crack the CA exam, according to Hussain. “I used to take a break of 30-40 minutes after three hours of study. I also made sure to walk two-three kilometres every day. It de-stressed me,” he said. “As the exams approached, I reduced the hours devoted to study in order to keep my mind alert,” he added.

Talking about his exam strategy, he said, “I read the paper and find out three-four questions which can help me attain 40 marks and tried solving them in an hour. Thus, I spent the rest two hours scoring more marks and helped me increase my total score, it gave me an edge over others.”

Suggesting his peers, Hussain said, “I advise everyone to have at least half-an-hour of me-time. During this, one can think about the day spent in retrospect. It would also help one manage time better during the day and gives the sense of pride and at the same time act as a quick revision.”

He likes to play badminton and cricket in his free time and found audit to be the easiest of all the seven subjects in the CA final exam. This Kota boy has an interest in auditing but is yet to decide the course of his career.
