Riyadh – Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has expressed his condolences to Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa following the deaths of two Bahraini military personnel near the southern Saudi border with Yemen. The phone call between the crown prince and the Bahraini king was reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
During the conversation, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman offered his sympathies and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. King Hamad expressed his gratitude to the crown prince and affirmed Bahrain’s pride in the two soldiers who lost their lives while performing their national duties.
The bodies of the fallen servicemen, Lieutenant Mubarak Hashel Zayed Al-Kubaisi and Corporal Yaqoub Rahmat Moulai Mohammed, were transported to the Isa Air Base in Bahrain on Monday via a Royal Bahraini Air Force aircraft, according to the Bahrain News Agency.
Bahrain’s military command stated that the soldiers were killed in a drone attack by Yemen’s Houthi rebels while patrolling the southern border of Saudi Arabia. One of the soldiers was an officer. The incident has drawn condemnation from Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry, which denounced the “treacherous attack” and expressed solidarity with Bahrain.
The foreign ministry also reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s rejection of the ongoing flow of weapons to the Houthi militia in Yemen and called for a ban on arms exports to Yemeni territories.
