Oil flows are expected to begin at 10 a.m. , according to state media citing Oil Minister Hayan Abdel-Ghani. The agreement includes provisions to enhance security around oilfields and ensure continuity of export operations, Kurdish authorities said.

KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said the region would allow crude exports through its pipeline network “at the earliest possible time” given the exceptional circumstances facing the country. He added that talks with Baghdad would continue to lift trade restrictions and provide guarantees to international oil companies to safely resume production.

Barzani also said he had instructed regional officials to facilitate exports following discussions with U.S. envoy Tom Barrack, emphasising the need to prioritise economic stability for citizens.

Tensions between Baghdad and the KRG had escalated in recent days, with Kurdish authorities accusing the federal government of failing to address security and economic challenges affecting the oil sector. Baghdad, in turn, said the KRG had refused to allow use of a regional pipeline as an alternative export route, alleging the imposition of arbitrary conditions.

The dispute unfolded against the backdrop of wider regional instability, including disruptions to crude flows linked to the Iran conflict.

Iraq’s presidency called on both sides to cooperate to restart exports, while parliament issued a seven-point directive urging the government to secure alternative outlets for crude to mitigate economic damage under current security conditions.

The parliamentary intervention followed consultations with the oil ministry to assess the impact of halted exports after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy transit chokepoint, underscoring the urgency of restoring flows through northern export routes.

In an interview, Herzog said “Europe should support any effort… to eradicate Hezbollah,” while also welcoming diplomatic initiatives, including an offer by Emmanuel Macron to host direct talks between Israel and Lebanon.

The Israeli military said its troops had begun “limited and targeted ground operations” against Hezbollah strongholds in southern Lebanon, describing the campaign as part of broader defensive efforts to dismantle infrastructure and neutralize threats to northern Israel.

The operations followed intensified air and artillery strikes in border areas. Military chief Eyal Zamir said more than 400 Hezbollah fighters had been killed in the latest phase of fighting.

Lebanon’s government said more than one million people had been displaced within two weeks of fighting. Authorities reported that Israeli strikes since March 2 had killed 886 people, including 111 children, according to state figures.

The conflict widened after Hezbollah launched attacks on Israel on March 2, citing retaliation for the killing of Ali Khamenei in U.S.-Israeli strikes. Israel has since responded with extensive air raids and troop incursions.

Hezbollah said it fired rockets and drones at northern Israel, including the city of Nahariya, where emergency services reported injuries and property damage.

Regional and international concern has grown over the potential for further escalation. Turkey condemned Israel’s ground operations, warning of worsening instability and the risk of a humanitarian crisis.Leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom said a large-scale Israeli offensive could have severe humanitarian consequences and lead to a prolonged conflict.

Israel’s defence minister Israel Katz said displaced Lebanese civilians should not return to areas south of the Litani River until security conditions for northern Israel residents improve, as the military signalled operations would continue as needed.

The ministry said the deployments were made “in the context of the latest developments in our region,” adding that additional measures could be taken depending on how the situation evolves.

European powers have stepped up military activity on the divided Mediterranean island since a drone struck Britain’s RAF Akrotiri air base in Cyprus last week. Security officials believe the drone was launched by Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group.

The Turkish defence ministry said six F-16 jets along with air defence systems had been positioned in northern Cyprus, which Ankara recognises as an independent state.

“As a result of the evaluations to be made depending on the developments, additional measures will continue to be taken if necessary,” the ministry said in a statement.

The island of Cyprus has been divided for decades between the internationally recognised government in the south and the Turkish Cypriot administration in the north. Ankara does not recognise the Greek Cypriot government, which is a member of the European Union.

Nikos Christodoulides, the Greek Cypriot president, said the Turkish deployments were a response to recent European statements asserting that the island’s security falls under the responsibility of the European Union.Speaking to Greek newspaper Kathimerini, he described Turkey as an “occupying power” in Cyprus.

Tufan Erhurman, leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, criticised the remarks and said the focus should instead be on ensuring security for the entire island and both communities.

Omer Celik, spokesman for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party, said the deployment was not aimed at any country but intended to strengthen security and maintain the balance of power on the island.“But we must add this: other steps may come too, whether it is air defence systems, drone centres,”

The latest move follows a regional security incident last week when NATO defences intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Iran that entered Turkish airspace. Ankara warned Tehran on Saturday against launching further missiles toward its territory.
