Jeddah – Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport has reached a landmark moment in Saudi Arabia’s aviation history by welcoming its 50 millionth passenger in 2025, marking the highest annual passenger volume ever recorded by a Saudi airport.

This achievement places the airport among the world’s leading mega airports and reflects the rapid growth of the Kingdom’s aviation sector as travel demand, tourism, and international connectivity continue to expand.

The milestone highlights a steady upward trajectory, with passenger numbers rising from 49.1 million in 2024 to 50 million this year, demonstrating consistent growth supported by modern infrastructure and efficient operations.

As one of the most strategically important airports in the region, King Abdulaziz International Airport plays a central role in linking Saudi Arabia with major global destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa, and beyond.

The airport’s status as a key gateway is further strengthened by its vital role in facilitating the movement of Umrah performers and pilgrims traveling to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.

This dual function as both an international travel hub and a spiritual gateway gives the airport a unique position within the global aviation network.

The symbolic arrival of the 50 millionth passenger added a human touch to the milestone, celebrating not just numbers but the diverse journeys that pass through Jeddah each day.

The passenger, a French national arriving from Paris on a Saudia flight, was traveling to Jeddah to take part in an international sports tournament, reflecting the city’s growing profile as a host for global events.

She was warmly received by executives of the Jeddah Airports Company, who presented her with a commemorative gift to mark the historic occasion and highlight Saudi hospitality.

Airport officials emphasized that this milestone reflects high operational readiness, advanced facilities, and a strong commitment to passenger experience across all stages of travel.

Significant investments in terminals, runways, digital systems, and passenger services have enabled the airport to manage rising volumes while maintaining efficiency and comfort.

The record passenger figure also underscores Saudi Arabia’s broader transformation into a global tourism destination, supported by cultural events, sports tournaments, entertainment, and religious travel.

Jeddah’s location on the Red Sea coast further enhances its role as a natural crossroads between continents, strengthening its appeal for both transit passengers and long-stay visitors.

The airport’s growth aligns closely with national development goals, particularly efforts to diversify the economy and expand non-oil sectors such as tourism, logistics, and aviation.

Officials have noted that reaching 50 million passengers is not an endpoint but a foundation for future expansion, with plans already underway to double capacity in the coming years.

These ambitions reflect confidence in long-term travel demand and the Kingdom’s ability to compete with established global aviation hubs.

The achievement also highlights the success of collaboration between airlines, airport operators, regulators, and service providers in delivering seamless travel experiences.

As Saudi Arabia continues to open itself to the world, King Abdulaziz International Airport stands as a symbol of progress, connectivity, and global engagement.

With its record-breaking performance in 2025, the airport reinforces Jeddah’s role as a gateway city and positions the Kingdom firmly on the global aviation map.

Riyadh — Saudia Group has taken a major step in advancing its aviation strategy by expanding its historic partnership with

Riyadh — Saudia Group has taken a major step in advancing its aviation strategy by expanding its historic partnership with Airbus to include an additional 20 new aircraft for its Saudia and Flyadeal airlines.

The move builds on last year’s record-breaking agreement, marking another proud milestone for Saudi Arabia’s growing aviation industry.

The new aircraft will play a crucial role in enhancing global connectivity, promoting tourism, and contributing to the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 objectives.

In May, Saudia Group made history by signing the largest aircraft deal in the Kingdom’s aviation sector — a landmark purchase of 105 A320neo and A321neo aircraft.

Now, with this expansion, the group is adding 20 A330neo aircraft, further strengthening its long-term strategic collaboration with Airbus.

The signing ceremony was held at Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France, bringing together senior officials, diplomats, and aviation leaders.

Khaled Tash, Chief Marketing Officer of Saudia Group, said the expanded agreement reflects the airline’s commitment to connecting the world to Saudi Arabia.

He said: “Our mission has evolved beyond connecting Saudi Arabia to the world — we now aim to bring the world to Saudi Arabia.”

Tash added that the additional aircraft will enhance Saudia’s capacity to meet growing travel demand while supporting tourism, sports, culture, and business development.

The expansion also supports the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goal of transporting 330 million passengers and serving 30 million pilgrims annually.

Saudia’s strengthened fleet will help achieve these targets by enabling more routes, better passenger experiences, and improved operational efficiency.

The new aircraft will also enhance services for annual Hajj and year-round Umrah operations, extending reach into Southeast Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Flyadeal, Saudia’s low-cost subsidiary, will acquire 10 of the new A330-900neo aircraft as part of the expanded deal.

Steven Greenway, CEO of Flyadeal, said the new aircraft would allow the airline to expand globally and increase accessibility to the Kingdom for international travelers.

“These wide-body aircraft allow Flyadeal to fly longer distances — up to 12 hours — giving us access to destinations such as Manila and Indonesia,” Greenway explained.

He added that the expansion provides “flexibility, growth, and more opportunities to boost tourism and hospitality in Saudi Arabia.”

The agreement was formalized with a memorandum of understanding signed between Saudia Group and Airbus at the Toulouse factory.

The MoU was signed by Saleh Eid, Vice President of Fleet Management at Saudia Group, and Benoit de Saint-Exupery, Executive Vice President of Sales for Airbus Commercial Aircraft.

The signing represents not only a business deal but also a shared vision of growth, innovation, and long-term collaboration.

Director General of Saudia Group, Ibrahim Al-Omar, described the expansion as “a pivotal milestone” in the Group’s transformation strategy.

He said, “Today’s deal builds upon last year’s success and reflects our ongoing ambition to modernize our fleet and drive national development.”

Al-Omar emphasized that the expanded deal will create jobs, stimulate tourism, and elevate Saudi Arabia’s position as a global aviation hub.

Benoit de Saint-Exupery of Airbus praised Saudia Group’s leadership in advancing the Kingdom’s aviation goals.

“Saudia Group’s A330neo order for Flyadeal marks a key step in unlocking long-haul markets and attracting new customers,” he said.

He highlighted that the A330neo’s efficiency and comfort make it ideal for Saudia’s expanding international operations.

Deliveries of the A330neo aircraft are scheduled to begin in 2027, with all 20 new planes set to join the fleet by 2029.

The expansion aligns with the Kingdom’s vision to become a leading aviation hub, connecting more than 250 global destinations by the end of the decade.

This major development signals a promising future for Saudi Arabia’s aviation industry — one that reflects ambition, innovation, and progress.

Riyadh – A new chapter in Saudi-India relations unfolded as Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan met with Indian Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Riyadh.

The meeting marked a significant step in reinforcing the cultural bridge between the two countries and expanding their tourism collaboration on a global scale.

Held on the sidelines of the 26th session of the UN Tourism General Assembly, the discussions reflected the growing spirit of partnership between the two nations.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of preserving heritage, encouraging artistic exchange, and boosting tourism opportunities that highlight their rich traditions.

Prince Badr bin Abdullah and Minister Shekhawat exchanged ideas on new areas of cooperation. These include joint cultural festivals, tourism projects, museum collaborations, and student exchange programs to promote cross-cultural understanding.

Shekhawat commended the warm hospitality extended by the Saudi government. He expressed optimism about building long-term cultural and economic linkages that align with Saudi Vision 2030 and India’s global tourism outreach initiatives.

He also emphasized that India and Saudi Arabia share deep historical and spiritual connections that have evolved into dynamic modern partnerships. This cooperation, he said, is rooted in mutual respect and shared goals of cultural enrichment and sustainable tourism growth.

In addition to his meeting with Prince Badr, Shekhawat held bilateral discussions with tourism ministers from Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and South Africa. These talks focused on advancing international tourism partnerships and developing collaborative frameworks for global heritage preservation.

During his visit, the Indian minister attended a dinner hosted by Saudi Tourism Minister Ahmed Al-Khateeb. The event brought together ministers from various countries, providing a platform for dialogue on sustainable tourism and global cooperation.

Shekhawat highlighted that India continues to expand its presence in global tourism networks. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to building partnerships that foster cultural diplomacy and mutual prosperity through creative industries and tourism exchange.

The meeting underscored the shared vision of both nations to use culture and tourism as instruments of global unity. Saudi Arabia’s growing investment in cultural infrastructure and India’s dynamic tourism sector make the partnership a powerful force for regional development.

Experts note that this collaboration will open new opportunities for cultural tourism, academic research, and joint exhibitions. It will also promote innovation in heritage conservation, creative industries, and community-based tourism initiatives.

The strengthening of Saudi-Indian cultural ties is seen as a positive example of how nations can blend tradition with modernity. It showcases how shared cultural values and mutual understanding can shape a more connected and inclusive world.

The meeting concluded with optimism for a promising future where Saudi Arabia and India continue to celebrate their diverse cultural legacies. Both sides expressed their intent to transform this partnership into long-lasting cooperation that benefits artists, travelers, and future generations alike.
