Taif – Taif roses are celebrated worldwide for their unique and exquisite aroma, making them one of the most precious

Taif – Taif roses are celebrated worldwide for their unique and exquisite aroma, making them one of the most precious natural perfume products.

The fragrance is highly valued for its purity, rarity, and the meticulous care involved in cultivation, harvesting, and distillation.

The Kingdom’s Taif rose farms are spread across regions such as Al-Hada, Al-Shafa, Wadi Muharram, Al-Wahat, Al-Wahit, and Wadi Liya.

Together, these farms host over 1,144,000 rose bushes on approximately 270 hectares of fertile agricultural land.

Each year, the farms produce nearly 550 million roses, all harvested within a very short season.

The collection period lasts no more than 45 days, from early March to the end of April, making the harvest highly time-sensitive.

The process of obtaining Taif rose oil is exceptionally labor-intensive and requires great skill. Around 12,000 freshly picked roses are needed to produce just one tola of this prized oil.

Harvesting is done manually at dawn when the petals contain the most concentrated fragrance. This careful picking ensures the aroma remains pure and potent for the distillation process.

Distillation of the roses takes place within 24 hours of harvesting to preserve the delicate scent. This rapid processing is critical to maintaining the quality and uniqueness of the final perfume product.

The yield from the entire harvest produces approximately 20,000 tolas of Taif rose oil annually. This limited quantity contributes to the oil’s exclusivity and high value in the fragrance market.

The fragrance of Taif roses is not only a symbol of luxury but also an important cultural and agricultural heritage. It reflects the region’s longstanding traditions in horticulture and perfumery that have been passed down for generations.

Perfume artisans play a central role in transforming Taif roses into high-quality oils and perfumes. Their expertise ensures that each drop retains the flower’s natural aroma and purity.

This artisanal involvement aligns with initiatives to highlight traditional crafts as dynamic and economically valuable. Festivals and cultural events promote the craft, attracting tourism and supporting local communities.

The Taif rose industry also contributes to the Kingdom’s economy through exports and tourism-related activities. Visitors are drawn to the rose farms and festivals to experience the fragrance and witness traditional harvesting methods.

The rarity and meticulous production process make Taif rose oil a highly sought-after commodity in international markets. It is used in luxury perfumes, cosmetics, and therapeutic products, adding to its global appeal.

Experts note that the chemical composition of Taif roses produces a balanced scent with rich floral and sweet notes. This natural complexity makes it a preferred ingredient for master perfumers worldwide.

The combination of climatic conditions, soil quality, and careful cultivation ensures the rose’s superior quality. Each rose bush is nurtured with attention to water, sunlight, and soil nutrition to maximize fragrance potential.

The Taif rose’s status as a symbol of heritage enhances its value beyond fragrance. It represents local traditions, agricultural expertise, and a connection to the region’s natural landscape.

Annual festivals celebrate the rose harvest and showcase the meticulous work of growers and artisans. These events also provide a platform for cultural exchange and the promotion of regional products.

The fragrance’s exclusivity is further heightened by its short production season and labor-intensive process.
Only a limited number of rose oil units are produced each year, making it highly collectible and luxurious.

Taif rose oil remains one of the most treasured ingredients in the global perfume industry. Its unmatched aroma, artisanal production, and cultural significance contribute to its enduring prestige.

Riyadh – Saudi Arabia has marked a significant cultural milestone with the release of a commemorative postage stamp celebrating the

Riyadh – Saudi Arabia has marked a significant cultural milestone with the release of a commemorative postage stamp celebrating the inclusion of the Al-Faw Archaeological Area on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Issued by Saudi Post, the SR3 stamp reflects national pride in preserving history and honoring a site that represents thousands of years of human settlement and cultural exchange.

Al-Faw’s recognition as the Kingdom’s eighth UNESCO World Heritage Site reinforces Saudi Arabia’s growing global role in safeguarding ancient civilizations and shared human heritage.

Situated south of Riyadh, Al-Faw occupies a strategic location between the vast plains of Wadi Ad-Dawasir and the dramatic Tuwaiq mountain range.

This geographical position placed the site at the heart of historic trade routes linking southern Arabia with central and eastern regions of the peninsula.

For centuries, merchants, travelers, and settlers passed through Al-Faw, contributing to its emergence as a vibrant center of commerce, culture, and social life.

Archaeological evidence shows that the area contains nearly 12,000 remains, revealing a continuous pattern of human habitation spanning more than 6,000 years.

These remains document how successive communities adapted to their environment, managing resources and building settlements that thrived in challenging desert conditions.

Over time, the landscape of Al-Faw was shaped by human interaction with water sources, trade networks, and surrounding natural features.

The site was eventually abandoned around the fifth century AD, largely due to the depletion of water resources that once sustained its population.

Despite this abandonment, Al-Faw has remained remarkably preserved, offering archaeologists and historians invaluable insights into pre-Islamic Arabian societies.

Discoveries at the site span prehistoric periods through the late pre-Islamic era, highlighting the presence of three distinct populations over different eras.

Among the most notable features are paleolithic and neolithic tools, cairns, circular stone constructions, and tapered architectural forms.

The sacred mountain of Khashm Qaryah stands as a spiritual and cultural landmark, complemented by rock carvings that reflect belief systems and artistic expression.

Equally significant is the ancient water management system, which demonstrates advanced knowledge of hydrology and environmental adaptation.

The remains of the city of Qaryat Al-Faw further illustrate urban planning, trade organization, and social structure in ancient Arabia.

By issuing a commemorative stamp, Saudi Post highlights the importance of cultural heritage as part of national identity and global dialogue.

Such stamps serve not only as postal instruments but also as educational artifacts treasured by collectors, researchers, and heritage enthusiasts worldwide.

They capture defining moments in Saudi history, ensuring that achievements in preservation and cultural recognition reach a broad international audience.

Al-Faw now joins other renowned Saudi heritage sites on the UNESCO list, reflecting the Kingdom’s diverse historical landscape.

These include Al-Hijr, At-Turaif in Diriyah, Historic Jeddah, the rock art of Hail, Al-Ahsa Oasis, the Hima Cultural Area, and the Uruq Bani Maarid protected reserve.

Together, these sites tell a powerful story of human creativity, resilience, and continuity across millennia.

The recognition of Al-Faw and its commemoration through a national stamp symbolize Saudi Arabia’s long-term commitment to heritage conservation and cultural diplomacy.

As global interest in archaeology and cultural tourism grows, Al-Faw stands as a bridge between ancient civilizations and contemporary appreciation.

Through thoughtful preservation and international recognition, the Kingdom continues to present its rich past as a source of pride, learning, and inspiration for future generations.

Riyadh – The King Abdulaziz Foundation has brought a remarkable chapter of Arabian history back into public view by unveiling rare archival photographs capturing King Abdulaziz’s visit to the outskirts of Basra in 1916, a moment that highlights the early foundations of regional engagement and visionary leadership.

These newly revealed images offer a window into a formative period of King Abdulaziz’s life, when diplomacy, relationship-building, and strategic foresight played a central role in shaping his approach to leadership across the Arabian Peninsula and neighboring regions.

One striking photograph shows King Abdulaziz standing confidently with his companions in the Basra desert, reflecting a leader deeply engaged with his surroundings and committed to forging meaningful connections beyond traditional boundaries.

Captured by British photographer Gertrude Bell, the image is part of a broader historical collection that documents political, cultural, and social transformations across the region during the early twentieth century, a time of profound transition and opportunity.

The Basra visit holds lasting significance as it illustrates how King Abdulaziz prioritized dialogue and cooperation during an era often marked by instability, choosing engagement as a path toward long-term regional understanding.

Rather than seeking influence through confrontation, the visit reflected a forward-looking vision centered on mutual respect, stability, and shared prosperity, values that would later define his enduring legacy as a unifying leader.

Historians view this journey as an early example of King Abdulaziz’s diplomatic instincts, demonstrating how personal engagement and cultural awareness helped establish trust across diverse communities.

The photographs also underscore the importance of Basra as a regional crossroads, where political, economic, and cultural exchanges shaped the broader Middle Eastern landscape during the early 1900s.

By preserving and sharing these images, the King Abdulaziz Foundation continues its mission to safeguard Saudi Arabia’s historical memory while making it accessible to new generations and international audiences.

The archival material offers more than visual documentation, providing insight into leadership built on pragmatism, patience, and openness to collaboration in a rapidly changing world.

Scholars note that King Abdulaziz’s early movements beyond central Arabia played a crucial role in shaping his understanding of regional dynamics, helping him navigate complex political realities with balance and foresight.

The inclusion of Gertrude Bell’s work adds further historical depth, as her extensive documentation remains an invaluable record of the Arabian Peninsula’s evolution during a pivotal era.

Through these photographs, viewers gain a deeper appreciation of how individual encounters and journeys contributed to broader processes of unity, state-building, and regional cooperation.

The Basra images also resonate today, offering timeless lessons on diplomacy and leadership that remain relevant in contemporary discussions about regional dialogue and partnership.

Cultural institutions across the Kingdom increasingly emphasize such historical narratives to highlight Saudi Arabia’s longstanding engagement with its neighbors and its role in promoting stability.

The Foundation’s initiative reflects a growing global interest in archival heritage as a bridge between past and present, allowing history to inform modern perspectives.

As these photographs circulate, they reinforce King Abdulaziz’s image not only as a nation-builder but as a leader guided by wisdom, restraint, and strategic vision.

By shedding light on this early visit, the Foundation contributes to a richer understanding of the historical roots that shaped modern Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic and cultural outlook.

Jeddah – The General Directorate of Passports, part of the Ministry of Interior, has launched a special commemorative passport stamp

Jeddah – The General Directorate of Passports, part of the Ministry of Interior, has launched a special commemorative passport stamp to celebrate the 10th edition of the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to preserving and promoting its rich cultural heritage and authentic traditions.

The festival, held in Al-Sayahid north of the Riyadh Region in cooperation with the Camel Club, runs until January 3, showcasing the Kingdom’s iconic camel culture, traditional equestrian practices, and the enduring significance of camels as a symbol of Saudi heritage.

Travelers arriving at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and at land ports in the Eastern Province will have the opportunity to receive the commemorative passport stamp, highlighting the festival’s role in welcoming visitors while promoting awareness of Saudi Arabia’s historic and cultural milestones.

This initiative is part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Interior to document major national events, celebrating the Kingdom’s traditions and achievements while introducing international visitors to the richness of Saudi culture and the historical importance of camels in the Arabian Peninsula.

The commemorative stamp emphasizes the Kingdom’s dedication to cultural preservation, strengthening national identity, and promoting pride in the authentic heritage that has shaped generations of Saudis across centuries.

In addition, the Ministry’s initiative aligns with previous cultural projects, such as the series of commemorative postage stamps issued by Saudi Post in collaboration with the General Entertainment Authority in September, which celebrated the Kingdom’s 95th National Day under the theme “Our Pride Is in Our Nature.”

These stamps, valued at SR3, and a special postcard at SR5, marked the unification of the Kingdom by King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, transforming historical milestones into celebrations of national pride, loyalty, and identity, while highlighting the Kingdom’s continued commitment to commemorating significant cultural events.

The history of Saudi commemorative postage stamps dates back to the early 1930s, when the first stamp marked the appointment of Prince Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as crown prince, establishing a long-standing tradition of celebrating royal and national achievements through philately.

Saudi postage stamps are equipped with advanced security features that ensure authenticity, prevent counterfeiting, and protect both institutional and intellectual property, reflecting the Kingdom’s careful attention to quality and cultural preservation in all official initiatives.

The new passport stamp initiative demonstrates how Saudi Arabia continues to integrate cultural heritage into modern administrative practices, linking international travel with meaningful recognition of the nation’s unique historical and cultural narratives.

It also enhances the experience of visitors, allowing them to participate in commemorating national events while learning about the Kingdom’s cultural landmarks, traditional practices, and the historical significance of camels in shaping Arabian society and livelihoods.

By connecting travel, heritage, and celebration, the stamp fosters a deeper appreciation of Saudi Arabia’s identity, showcasing how national festivals like the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival reinforce cultural pride and international engagement.

The initiative exemplifies Saudi Arabia’s strategy of preserving traditions while promoting tourism and international awareness, highlighting the Kingdom as a destination where history, culture, and contemporary infrastructure meet in harmony.

Through such programs, Saudi Arabia reinforces its global cultural presence, encouraging participation in national celebrations and creating a legacy of education, pride, and engagement for both residents and international visitors alike.

The commemorative passport stamp is more than a functional travel item; it symbolizes Saudi Arabia’s vision of celebrating heritage, national pride, and cultural storytelling, offering a lasting reminder of the Kingdom’s rich history and enduring traditions.

Saudi Arabia’s cultural initiatives continue to strengthen national unity, promote heritage awareness, and ensure that iconic symbols like the camel remain central to the Kingdom’s identity, providing both educational and celebratory experiences for all who visit or reside in the country.

Each performance reflects how Arabic continues to inspire artistic expression in contemporary settings.

The event’s structure encourages discovery, allowing visitors to move freely between dialogue, art, and participation.

This integrated approach reinforces the idea that Arabic is not confined to books or classrooms, but is alive in everyday culture.

By hosting the program within the National Museum, the celebration gains added symbolic significance.

It aligns with national initiatives that emphasize heritage preservation, creativity, and knowledge sharing.

For visitors, the celebration offers more than an event; it provides a meaningful cultural journey.

Through dialogue, art, and interaction, the program fosters a renewed connection with Arabic.

It invites participants to see the language as a shared legacy and a source of inspiration.

Riyadh – Saudi Arabia has taken a major cultural step forward by declaring 2025 as the Year of Handicrafts, a move that celebrates the Kingdom’s deep-rooted heritage and artistic excellence. This initiative aims to connect Saudi traditions with modern creativity, fostering a sense of identity, pride, and cultural continuity among citizens.

The Kingdom recognizes handicrafts as a vital expression of national culture. These traditional arts are not only symbols of beauty and craftsmanship but also serve as bridges that connect the past with the present, preserving generations of inherited skills and artistry.

In alignment with Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia continues to strengthen its commitment to cultural development. By encouraging artisans and supporting creative industries, the Kingdom aims to diversify its economy and enhance global recognition of Saudi art and heritage.

The Ministry of Culture has taken the lead in promoting handicrafts as a national cultural project. Its mission is to provide platforms that allow traditional crafts to evolve while maintaining their authenticity and historical value.

Handicrafts represent the Kingdom’s creative spirit through a variety of practices such as weaving, pottery, metalwork, wood carving, and embroidery. Each craft tells a story of heritage, skill, and dedication, reflecting the artistry that has been passed down through families for centuries.

In support of this initiative, the Royal Institute of Traditional Arts continues to nurture talent and preserve the authenticity of Saudi culture.
The institute provides education, training programs, and artistic workshops designed to equip a new generation of artisans with both traditional knowledge and modern innovation.

Moreover, the Heritage Commission, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, has launched numerous training initiatives, competitions, and exhibitions. These efforts aim to promote handicrafts as a living art form, bringing traditional skills into the contemporary marketplace.

The initiative also opens economic opportunities for artisans, especially women and young creators. By supporting small-scale craft businesses and connecting artisans with tourism and retail sectors, Saudi Arabia is transforming handicrafts into a sustainable industry.

Internationally, the Year of Handicrafts will showcase Saudi talent on global platforms. The Kingdom plans to host exhibitions, cultural fairs, and artistic collaborations, offering the world a glimpse into its evolving creative identity.

This renewed focus on handicrafts not only enriches the economy but also enhances cultural diplomacy. Through artistic exchange and innovation, Saudi Arabia continues to share its story of transformation and creativity with the world.

Experts note that the initiative is an inspiring example of how culture can drive national pride and economic growth. By blending traditional artistry with modern innovation, Saudi Arabia is ensuring that its cultural legacy remains vibrant and relevant in a fast-changing world.

Karachi – The Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) has reaffirmed its commitment to Pakistan with the successful conclusion of a four-day business-to-business (B2B) roadshow held in Karachi and Islamabad, highlighting the Kingdom’s growing tourism offerings and opportunities for collaboration.

The roadshow brought together leading Saudi stakeholders, including prominent hotels, airlines, destination management companies (DMCs), and transport providers, alongside key Pakistani travel and business partners. The initiative offered an immersive introduction to Saudi Arabia’s diverse destinations, from the historic oasis city of AlUla to the modern vibrancy of Riyadh, Jeddah, Abha, Taif, and AlBaha.

Emphasizing Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism, the event showcased unique opportunities for networking and collaboration, allowing participants to explore new avenues for business growth and cultural engagement. Through one-on-one meetings, B2B matchmaking, and MICE-focused sessions, attendees experienced Saudi Arabia’s expanding tourism ecosystem designed to host world-class events and international gatherings.

“The program has successfully created pathways for collaboration while presenting Saudi Arabia’s rich heritage, modern infrastructure, and leisure offerings,” the STA said in an official statement.

Saudi Arabia, home to Islam’s holiest cities, Makkah and Madinah, continues to attract millions of Muslim visitors each year for Hajj and Umrah. Beyond religious tourism, Riyadh and other cities are emerging as dynamic hubs for business, leisure, and cultural exploration, reflecting the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 commitment to economic diversification. Saudi Arabia is also set to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, further positioning the country as a global destination for sport and entertainment.

The roadshow highlighted major Saudi events and lifestyle experiences such as MDL Beast and Riyadh Season, combining leisure with business opportunities for international travelers. Exclusive promotions were introduced, including summer offers, early-bird discounts for winter tours of AlUla, and specially tailored packages for groups and leisure travelers.

With Pakistan being one of Saudi Arabia’s priority markets, the STA anticipates more than 2.8 million Pakistani visitors to the Kingdom this year, up from over 2.7 million last year. This initiative reflects the Kingdom’s long-term strategy to strengthen regional tourism ties, enhance connectivity, and promote cultural exchange.

The Saudi delegation included representatives from Taiba Investments, Saudi Silk Route, Via Konnect, 88 Destinations, Kurban Tours, King Abdullah Economic City, Qiddiya, Aroya Cruise, Saudia Airlines, FlyADeal, and the Haramain High-Speed Rail. These participants highlighted the Kingdom’s modern transport infrastructure, including metro and high-speed rail networks, which enhance accessibility across key cities.

“This roadshow underscores Saudi Arabia’s vision to provide integrated travel solutions that blend business, culture, and leisure while deepening the Kingdom’s long-standing partnership with Pakistan,” the STA concluded.

Through initiatives like this B2B roadshow, Saudi Arabia continues to demonstrate its global tourism ambitions, offering international travelers, businesses, and stakeholders unparalleled opportunities for engagement, discovery, and economic collaboration.
