Dubai-Israeli forces crossed north of the Litani River for the first time during a week-long military operation targeting Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, according to Israeli media reports on Tuesday, signaling a widening ground campaign despite an existing ceasefire framework.

Israeli army radio said troops from the Egoz Unit and the reconnaissance company of the Golani Brigade operated near the outskirts of Zawtar al-Sharqiya, roughly 10 kilometers from the Israeli border.

The reported incursion marked one of the deepest publicly acknowledged Israeli ground movements into southern Lebanon since cross-border hostilities intensified earlier this year.

Israeli media said Hezbollah fighters emerged from a tunnel north of the Litani River during one clash, triggering direct fighting with Israeli troops.

Israel confirmed several soldiers were wounded during the operation but did not disclose the number of casualties.

According to Israeli broadcaster Channel 14, the military operations north of the river were intended to prepare routes for possible future movement of armored and infantry units toward areas from which Hezbollah had launched rockets and drones into Israel.

The Israeli military said it had struck more than 100 targets in southern Lebanon over the past week.

The escalation comes despite an April 17 ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon aimed at reducing hostilities following months of fighting between Israeli forces and the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement.

Israeli airstrikes and artillery attacks have continued across southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah has maintained cross-border rocket and drone attacks targeting northern Israel.

Lebanese health authorities say more than 2,800 people have been killed since Israel intensified military operations against Hezbollah on March 2 as part of a broader regional offensive.

Israeli forces have also continued issuing evacuation orders for residents living south of the Litani River, urging civilians to move further north.

The Litani River has long held strategic importance in conflicts involving Hezbollah and Israel, particularly under the terms of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which sought to limit armed group activity south of the river following the 2006 Lebanon war.

Dubai-The League of Arab States on Sunday condemned attacks targeting Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and the territorial waters of Qatar, with Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit warning that the incidents threatened regional security and violated international law amid escalating tensions across the Gulf.

In a statement published on X, Aboul Gheit said continued escalation risked undermining ongoing mediation and diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving regional crises through political channels. He did not identify the parties responsible for the attacks.

The Arab League chief also expressed solidarity with Bahrain after Bahraini authorities announced the arrest of individuals allegedly linked to foreign entities accused of attempting to destabilize the kingdom’s security and internal stability.

The remarks come as regional tensions remain elevated amid the broader fallout from the conflict involving Iran and mounting security concerns among Gulf states over attacks on infrastructure, maritime routes and sovereign territory.

Aboul Gheit reiterated the Arab League’s support for measures adopted by Gulf governments to safeguard national sovereignty and maintain regional stability, according to the statement.

The comments were issued against the backdrop of intensified diplomatic activity across the Middle East, with regional and international actors seeking to contain the spillover risks of the Iran-related conflict and prevent further disruptions to Gulf security and shipping corridors.

Jerusalem– The Israeli military said on Monday that a soldier was killed during combat operations near the border with Lebanon,

Jerusalem– The Israeli military said on Monday that a soldier was killed during combat operations near the border with Lebanon, underscoring continued hostilities between Israel and the Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah despite a ceasefire agreement reached last month.

The military identified the soldier as Sergeant Major Alexander Glovanyov, 47, who was killed on Sunday in fighting close to the Israel-Lebanon frontier.
His death brings the number of Israeli military personnel killed since the conflict with Hezbollah intensified in early March to 18, according to Israeli military figures. One Israeli civilian contractor has also been killed during the hostilities.

Fighting has continued in southern Lebanon despite a ceasefire agreement signed between Israel and Lebanon on April 17 that was intended to halt cross-border exchanges of fire and reduce the risk of a broader regional escalation.

Hezbollah entered the conflict on March 2 after launching rockets into Israel, saying the attacks were retaliation for the killing of Iran’s supreme leader in joint U.S.-Israeli strikes, according to statements from the group.

Israel responded with extensive airstrikes and later expanded operations into a ground campaign in southern Lebanon.

Israeli forces are currently operating behind what the military describes as a “yellow line,” an Israeli-declared security zone extending roughly 10 kilometers north of Lebanon’s border.

The latest casualty announcement came as smoke was seen rising from areas in southern Lebanon following reported Israeli airstrikes targeting the village of Choukine, according to AFP images from the region.

The ongoing exchanges have heightened concerns that fighting between Israel and Hezbollah could evolve into a wider regional confrontation involving Iran and allied armed groups across the Middle East.

Diplomatic efforts led by international mediators have so far failed to fully enforce the ceasefire or secure a durable de-escalation along the volatile frontier.

Beijing – A Chinese-owned refined-products tanker was attacked near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week, marking the first reported strike on a Chinese oil tanker since the escalation of conflict linked to the Iran war, Chinese financial outlet Caixin reported on Thursday.

The tanker was attacked off the UAE’s Al Jeer Port on May 4, according to the report, which cited people familiar with the incident. The vessel’s deck caught fire during the attack and bore markings reading “CHINA OWNER & CREW,” Caixin said.

No casualties or details regarding the extent of the damage were immediately disclosed.A person familiar with the shipowner told Caixin the incident represented the first known attack involving a Chinese oil tanker in the region, describing the event as “psychologically very hard to accept.”The strike comes amid mounting security risks around the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic maritime chokepoint through which a significant share of global oil and fuel shipments passes daily.

Shipping activity across the Gulf region has faced heightened disruption since the outbreak of hostilities involving Iran, the United States and Israel earlier this year. Regional tensions have raised concerns among energy traders, insurers and shipping operators over vessel safety and supply-chain stability.

The reported attack follows a series of incidents affecting commercial shipping near Hormuz, including claims and denials involving vessels linked to South Korea and other Asian economies heavily dependent on Gulf energy supplies.China, the world’s largest crude oil importer, relies heavily on Middle Eastern energy exports transported through the Strait of Hormuz.

Beijing has repeatedly called for stability in the Gulf and urged all parties to avoid actions that could threaten international trade routes.Neither Chinese authorities nor UAE officials immediately issued public statements regarding the reported attack.

Beirut— An Israeli drone strike in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley killed one person and wounded two others on Wednesday, Lebanese

Beirut— An Israeli drone strike in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley killed one person and wounded two others on Wednesday, Lebanese state media reported, underscoring continued tensions despite an ongoing truce between Israel and Hezbollah.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said the attack occurred at dawn on the outskirts of Al-Jabur in the West Bekaa region. There was no immediate confirmation from the Israeli military, which said it was not aware of the reported strike.

The incident comes amid a fragile ceasefire between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah that began last week following an escalation of cross-border hostilities.Hezbollah said on Tuesday it had launched rockets and attack drones toward northern Israel, describing the action as a response to what it called repeated Israeli violations of the truce, including strikes on civilian areas and infrastructure.

The Israeli military said Hezbollah had fired multiple rockets at its forces in southern Lebanon and that it had targeted the launcher in retaliation.

Lebanese media also reported continued Israeli artillery shelling and demolition operations in southern areas where Israeli forces remain deployed.

Israel intensified its military campaign in Lebanon after Hezbollah entered the broader regional conflict in support of Iran in early March.

Despite the ceasefire, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has said Israeli forces would respond with “full force” to any perceived threats.Under the terms of the truce, Israel maintains that it reserves the right to act against attacks it deems imminent or ongoing.

Beirut— At least seven people were killed and 24 wounded in two Israeli airstrikes in the Beirut area on Wednesday, Lebanon’s health ministry said, as Israel said it targeted senior members of Hezbollah in the latest escalation of the conflict.

The strikes hit vehicles in Beirut’s southern outskirts and in an area just south of the capital, according to Lebanese authorities and state media.Targeted strikes in capital outskirtsLebanon’s state news agency NNA reported that one strike hit a vehicle in the Khaldeh area south of Beirut, killing two people and wounding three.

A second strike in the Jnah area targeted multiple vehicles, with the health ministry reporting at least five killed and 21 injured.

Israel’s military said it carried out two separate operations aimed at a senior Hezbollah commander and another high-ranking member of the Iran-aligned group, but did not identify the individuals or confirm whether they were killed.

The strikes come amid a widening Israeli offensive in Lebanon that has killed at least 1,200 people and displaced around 1.2 million, according to Lebanese authorities.

Kuwait city — An Indian national was killed in an Iranian attack on a power and water desalination plant in Kuwait, the country’s Ministry of Electricity and Water said on Monday, adding that a service building at the facility was also damaged.

The ministry said in a post on X that the strike targeted infrastructure linked to electricity generation and water desalination, without providing further details on the timing or scale of the attack.

Authorities said the assault caused damage to a service building within the plant complex, though the extent of disruption to power and water output was not immediately clear.

No additional casualties were reported in the initial statement.

The incident comes amid escalating hostilities involving Iran and its regional adversaries, with attacks increasingly affecting critical infrastructure across the Gulf.

Kuwait, a key energy producer, has not been a primary battlefield but remains vulnerable due to its strategic facilities.

Paris — The Pentagon is preparing options for potential ground operations in Iran, including limited raids on strategic sites, although

Paris — The Pentagon is preparing options for potential ground operations in Iran, including limited raids on strategic sites, although President Donald Trump has not approved any deployment, the The Washington Post reported on Saturday.

The report said any action would likely fall short of a full-scale invasion, instead involving special operations forces and conventional infantry targeting locations such as Kharg Island and coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for global oil shipments.

Washington has already moved thousands of Marines to the Middle East amid the month-long conflict. The first of two contingents arrived on an amphibious assault ship on Friday, according to the U.S. military.

Additional deployments under consideration include forces from the 82nd Airborne Division, alongside approximately 5,000 Marines being repositioned to the region. These reinforcements would add to an estimated 50,000 U.S. troops already stationed across the Middle East, according to media reports.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington could achieve its objectives without deploying ground troops but noted that forces were being positioned to give policymakers “maximum” flexibility.

Defense analysts cited in reports said limited operations could aim to secure maritime routes or seize key infrastructure such as Kharg Island, a major hub for Iran’s oil exports.

Military experts have cautioned that even limited ground incursions could lead to prolonged engagement, raising the risk of a broader conflict and increased casualties.

Concerns also persist over the economic implications of instability around the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of global energy supplies passes.

No final decision on ground operations has been announced, and U.S. officials have not publicly confirmed the scope or timing of any potential action.

Cairo— Israeli air strikes hit two police checkpoints in southern Gaza Strip on Sunday, killing at least six Palestinians including a child, local health officials said, in the latest violence despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire with Hamas now in place for over five months.

Medics said Israeli aircraft targeted two checkpoints operated by the Hamas-run police force in Khan Younis, killing three policemen and three civilians, including a girl, and wounding four others.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the strikes.Local health authorities said more than 680 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza since the ceasefire took effect in November, underscoring persistent hostilities despite the agreement.

The total death toll in Gaza since the start of the war in October 2023 has surpassed 72,000, according to officials in the territory. The latest strikes come as Israel remains engaged in a broader regional conflict, including military operations linked to tensions with Iran and ongoing hostilities with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

Health officials in Gaza say at least 50 Palestinians have been killed since the escalation involving Iran began roughly a month ago.

Violence has continued intermittently across Gaza during the ceasefire period, with no indication of a sustained de-escalation.

Jerusalem— The Israeli military said on Sunday that a soldier was killed during combat operations in southern Lebanon, marking the fifth fatality among its forces since hostilities with Hezbollah intensified earlier this month.

In a statement, the army identified the soldier as Sergeant Moshe Yitzchak hacohen Katz, 22, a member of the Paratroopers Brigade’s 890th Battalion, originally from New Haven, Connecticut.

The military said the soldier “fell during combat in southern Lebanon,” without providing further operational details.

The latest casualty comes amid ongoing cross-border exchanges between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, which began launching rocket attacks on March 2. The group said the strikes were in retaliation for the killing of Ali Khamenei, an event that has heightened regional tensions.

Since the escalation began, at least five Israeli soldiers have been killed in combat operations along the northern front, according to military figures. The fighting forms part of a broader escalation involving Israel and Iran-aligned groups across the region, raising concerns of a wider conflict.

Exchanges of fire along the Israel-Lebanon border have intensified, with both sides reporting casualties and continued military activity.

Israel has not disclosed further details regarding the circumstances of the latest incident, and there was no immediate comment from Hezbollah.
