New Delhi- India’s parliament on Friday failed to pass a government-backed constitutional amendment bill to expand legislative assemblies and accelerate

New Delhi- India’s parliament on Friday failed to pass a government-backed constitutional amendment bill to expand legislative assemblies and accelerate the implementation of a one-third quota for women lawmakers, dealing a rare legislative setback to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The proposed law, which sought to increase the size of the lower house by about 55% to 850 seats ahead of the 2029 general elections, fell short of the required two-thirds majority, with 298 lawmakers voting in favor and 230 against in the Lok Sabha.

The government had linked the expansion to the implementation of women’s reservation, arguing that redrawing constituency boundaries based on updated population data was necessary to ensure equitable representation. Seats in parliament have remained frozen since the 1971 census, despite significant demographic changes.

Opposition parties supported the principle of reserving seats for women but opposed tying it to a nationwide delimitation exercise, alleging the move could be used to alter electoral dynamics in favor of the ruling party.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the bill shortly after the vote, calling it an “unconstitutional trick” that undermined the Constitution under the guise of advancing women’s representation. The government rejected those claims, maintaining that the proposal was essential for modernizing India’s electoral framework.

Interior Minister Amit Shah defended the bill in parliament, warning that blocking it would disappoint women across the country and vowing continued efforts to secure legislative backing for gender quotas.

A law passed in 2023 had already approved reserving one-third of parliamentary seats for women, but its implementation was contingent on the completion of the next census and subsequent constituency redrawing, a process still underway and expected to delay enforcement beyond the next election cycle.

Women currently account for about 14% of members in the lower house and 17% in the upper house, with representation in state legislatures averaging around 10%, according to official data.

The failure of the bill highlights ongoing political divisions over electoral reforms and gender representation, as well as the challenges of securing broad consensus for constitutional amendments in India’s increasingly polarized parliament.

Mossad’s internal communications described Gandhi as a “bitter dynast” allegedly involved in “coordinated efforts” to damage Adani and Indian Prime

Mossad’s internal communications described Gandhi as a “bitter dynast” allegedly involved in “coordinated efforts” to damage Adani and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In an explosive revelation with far-reaching geopolitical implications, sources have told Sputnik India that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally ordered the country’s spy agency, Mossad, to counter an alleged international campaign aimed at tarnishing the reputation of Indian billionaire Gautam Adani.

This unprecedented operation, codenamed Operation Zeppelin, reportedly included hacking into the personal servers of Indian political strategist and Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) head Sam Pitroda.

According to highly placed sources, Mossad’s intervention was triggered days after the now-infamous Hindenburg Research report released on January 24, 2023, which accused Adani of orchestrating “the largest con in corporate history.” The bombshell wiped off approximately $150 billion from Adani Group’s valuation and led to one of India’s most severe stock market crashes.

Haifa Deal and Israel’s Strategic Concerns

The timing of the Hindenburg report raised alarms in Tel Aviv, occurring just days before Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) closed a landmark $1.2 billion deal to acquire Haifa Port—Israel’s largest and most strategic shipping hub. Sources told Sputnik India that Netanyahu, present during the finalization of the Haifa deal, raised the issue directly with Adani in a high-level closed-door meeting.

“This report… it is a serious threat to your business, isn’t it?” Netanyahu reportedly asked Adani, who was alone representing his group at the time. Present alongside Netanyahu were key aides, including Eshel Armoni, former Mossad operative and then-chairman of Haifa Port.

Adani’s calm rebuttal—“Not at all. It’s all lies.”—did little to ease Israeli concerns.

Netanyahu, citing the strategic nature of the India-Israel relationship, is believed to have told Adani, “Even if you see no threat, we have to be concerned. If it weakens you, it could sabotage not just this port deal but everything we have worked to build with India.”

According to sources, he described the Hindenburg charges as an “indirect attack” on Israel and assured Adani: “Israel believes in protecting its friends.”

Mossad Launches Operation Zeppelin

Within days, Mossad launched Operation Zeppelin, activating its elite Tzomet (Human Intelligence) and Keshet (Cyber Operations) units. The operation aimed to uncover what Israeli intelligence perceived as a coordinated global effort to derail the Haifa deal and undermine India’s standing.

Targets reportedly included Hindenburg Research’s New York headquarters and its founder Nathan Anderson, who were put under direct surveillance. The operation expanded to monitor hedge funds, activist lawyers, journalists, and political figures allegedly linked to the U.S. Deep State and billionaire George Soros.

One of the most startling aspects of the operation was the cyber intrusion into the Illinois-based residence of Sam Pitroda. Sources claimed that Mossad successfully accessed encrypted chatrooms and backchannel communications allegedly linking senior Indian opposition figures, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, to Anderson’s team.

Citing these findings, sources said Mossad’s internal communications described Gandhi as a “bitter dynast” allegedly involved in “coordinated efforts” to damage Adani and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Global Surveillance and Western Media

Mossad’s operations reportedly spanned multiple geographies—ranging from the U.S. and Canada to Europe and Australia. One decrypted email from Anderson, dated September 2023, allegedly confirmed a broader plan: “Nate’s report was just the beginning. More’s coming.”

By January 2024, Adani was privately briefed on the Zeppelin findings by Israeli intelligence operatives in Switzerland. The resulting dossier—spanning 353 pages—accused Western media outlets, USAID, and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) of amplifying anti-Adani narratives.

According to sources, USAID played a “central role” in disseminating disinformation through media channels.

In November 2024, intermediaries linked to Mossad reportedly leaked segments of the dossier to Reuters, Bloomberg, and The Guardian. Only French investigative outlet Mediapart published a report. “Most buried the story,” the sources noted.

Legal Blowback and Political Fallout

The dossier’s release coincided with legal actions against Adani by U.S. agencies, reportedly influenced by Biden administration officials. However, these cases collapsed under scrutiny, and sources say they led to the resignation of U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Breon Peace.

In December 2024, Adani’s legal team—led by powerhouse firm Quinn Emanuel—sent a seven-page legal threat to Hindenburg Research. A month later, Nathan Anderson allegedly agreed to dissolve Hindenburg in exchange for immunity, which was revoked after Donald Trump assumed office in January 2025.

Congress Responds

India’s main opposition party, Congress, has categorically denied any links to Hindenburg or foreign entities. In a statement, it called the allegations a diversionary tactic to shift attention away from the serious issues raised by the Hindenburg report.

“This is nothing but a smokescreen to protect the ruling party’s corporate allies,” a Congress spokesperson told local media.

If confirmed, the revelations about Operation Zeppelin mark an extraordinary case of transnational intelligence operations being deployed in the defense of private economic interests. It underscores the evolving nexus between geopolitics, corporate interests, and cyber-espionage.

As of now, neither the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office nor Mossad has commented on the allegations. Gautam Adani’s office has also declined to respond to queries from Sputnik India.

This story is developing.

New Delhi (Reuters) – Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, whose father, grandmother and great-grandfather were all prime ministers, can breathe

New Delhi (Reuters) – Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, whose father, grandmother and great-grandfather were all prime ministers, can breathe a sigh of relief after the top court suspended his defamation conviction, paving the way for a return to parliament.

It is that potent lineage that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seek to attack when they say dynastic politics has no role in a democracy – Modi, in his speeches, often refers to Gandhi as a “prince”.

Gandhi, 53, lost his parliament seat in March after a magistrate’s court in the western state of Gujarat found him guilty of defaming Modi and others with the same name and sentenced him to two years in prison.

The jail term was suspended and he was given bail to appeal in a higher court but his petitions to suspend the conviction to allow him to return to parliament were rejected by lower courts. The Supreme Court suspended the conviction on Friday.

During the last four months, Gandhi helped his Congress party open talks with other opposition groups to push the idea of a grand alliance to take on the BJP in national elections next year.

The alliance was announced last month and labelled “INDIA” (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), a name credited to Gandhi’s suggestion of challenging the BJP’s nationalist platform, Congress leaders said.

Gandhi also campaigned for his party in elections in the key southern state of Karnataka in May which Congress won defeating the BJP in a rare jolt for the Hindu nationalists.

However, Gandhi has never been a minister in a federal or state government, has not led his Congress party to a general election victory, and quit as party chief after it was heavily defeated in the last parliamentary polls in 2019.

At the heart of his central role in opposition politics is the fact that his party has ruled India for 54 of its 75 years since independence from Britain. His father, grandmother and great-grandfather led the country for more than 37 of those 54 years.

Congress was the largest national political party with a footprint across the country of 1.4 billion people until it was overtaken by the BJP in 2014.

Even though Congress withered in 2019, winning less than 10% of the 545 seats in the lower house, it commanded nearly 20% of the vote – the largest for any opposition group – against the BJP’s 38%.

Congress is the ruling party, or the main opposition, in about half a dozen important states. With the largest national footprint after the BJP, Congress is also the fulcrum of the 26-member INDIA alliance.

Lineage And Legacy

Single at 53, Gandhi is known to be a fitness and martial arts enthusiast and has been seen cycling in New Delhi, accompanied by security men.

A member of the parliament since 2004, Gandhi’s attendance has been far below average. His frequent absences from the chamber, and the country, have been the focus of the media and drawn BJP accusations that he does not take politics seriously.

Outside parliament, he has often reminded his supporters of his family’s commitment and sacrifices, talking about the assassination of his grandmother, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and of his father and ex-prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Starting in December 2022, Gandhi launched over a month-long 4,000-km cross-country march from India’s southern tip to Kashmir in the Himalayas in a bid to revive his party and refurbish his image in what he called a Bharat Jodo Yatra, or unify India march.

Although now a shadow of its former self, the Gandhi family – which includes Rahul’s Italian-born mother and former party chief Sonia and his sister Priyanka – still dominates Congress and commands fierce loyalty.

Right-winger Media have often tried hard to tarnish the image of Rahul Gandhi and his abilities, however, his struggling journey

Right-winger Media have often tried hard to tarnish the image of Rahul Gandhi and his abilities, however, his struggling journey from Harvard till Cambridge despite political tensions against his family, is an inspiration to millions of Indian youth who aspire to reach their dreams.

Rahul Gandhi’s educational journey started at Modern School in New Delhi, India, where he grew up under the political limelight of his grandmother, Indira Gandhi, who served as a Prime Minister. Here he went through the early stages of education that provided a steady foundation for his later years in education.

After attending Modern School in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi briefly joined St. Columbia School in New Delhi. He later enrolled to Doon School from 1981 to 1983. Here, he continued with the early stages of his education. This was however not to be sustained for as long as 3 years into his education at Doon school, his grandmother, who was then the Prime Minister of India, was assassinated.

Uncertainty and insecurity rocked Rahul’s family and in this regard urgent measure had to be taken. This had a great impact and imbalance on Rahul Gandhi’s tender education years and as a direct result, had to be homeschooled. This he did with his younger sister, Priyanka Gandhi. The political tension at the time did not allow Rahul and his family to be under the public eye.

Rahul Gandhi had great athletic ability in the sport of rifle shooting. His love for sports secured him a place in tertiary education. This paved way to his admission into St. Stephen’s College from 1989 to 1990. Here he began his undergraduate studies.

After his first year examinations at St. Stephens College, Rahul later proceeded to the prestigious Harvard University in the United States where he enrolled for an undergraduate program. This however took a strange twist when barely a year after, his father, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated. Rahul Gandhi’s university education at Harvard University therefore lasted one year.

From there, Rahul Gandhi’s options were limited and far between. He was admitted to Rollins College in Florida in 1991, where he graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. His father’s political assassination would bring with it certain consequences, one being his changing his name to Raul Vinci to conceal his identity. Only few university officials and security agencies knew his true identity.

Rahul Gandhi’s education did not stop there. In 1994, he joined Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated the following year with a Master’s of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree in Developmental studies.

The education of Rahul Gandhi has seen with it many challenges. It is evident however, that Rahul is a good example of a pillar of excellence in education. He is a great inspiration to many education scholars and a mentor to those who can identify with him. Rahul Gandhi’s education journey is the ultimate testament that education should be pursued no matter the difficulties.
