Meta strengthens its push into AI-powered consumer hardware with the acquisition of Limitless, the startup behind a wearable conversation-recording pendant.

Meta has acquired Limitless, an AI-wearables startup known for developing a pendant-style device that records real-world conversations and turns them into searchable summaries, marking a significant step in Meta’s broader ambition to expand its portfolio of AI-enabled consumer hardware.

The move aligns with Meta’s recently announced vision of bringing personal superintelligence to everyday users by integrating advanced AI tools into accessible, lightweight devices.

Limitless’ co-founder and CEO said the startup shares Meta’s long-term vision for AI-driven wearables, and joining the company will help accelerate the development of next-generation devices that seamlessly blend intelligence, mobility, and user-friendly design.

The acquisition arrives during a period of rapid growth in the wearable technology market, where companies are increasingly racing to introduce compact devices that provide always-on AI assistance for productivity and personal organization.

Meta’s hiring of a senior design executive from Apple earlier this week further reinforced expectations that the company is strengthening its focus on hardware innovation.

Industry observers view this combination of talent acquisition and strategic purchases as evidence that Meta is preparing to compete aggressively in the next era of AI-driven personal devices.

The company already collaborates with leading eyewear brands such as Ray-Ban and Oakley to develop smart glasses equipped with AI features, signaling its long-standing interest in merging fashion, functionality, and artificial intelligence.

These partnerships have helped Meta establish an early foothold in the smart eyewear segment, and the addition of Limitless’ capabilities may expand its hardware roadmap even further.

Limitless first gained attention under its former name, Rewind, with its wearable pendant that attaches to clothing or a lanyard.

The device records conversations throughout the day and uses AI tools to generate transcripts, summaries, and searchable memory logs designed to boost productivity and streamline information recall.

After the acquisition, Meta and Limitless will continue to support current users, ensuring they maintain access to services and device features.

However, the company will halt new device sales and will require existing users to accept revised privacy terms in order to continue accessing the platform’s full functionality.

Though financial terms of the deal were not publicly disclosed, Limitless has raised over $33 million in funding from major investors including Sam Altman and A16z.

The startup’s strong backing and early traction in the emerging AI-assistant space illustrate the growing demand for wearable devices built around memory augmentation and real-time information analysis.

This acquisition reflects a larger shift across the tech sector as companies seek to define the future of personal computing through AI-powered devices.

With generative AI becoming more deeply integrated into daily digital workflows, wearables that capture and organize real-world experiences have become a focal point of innovation.

By bringing Limitless into its hardware ecosystem, Meta is taking a strategic step toward building more immersive and intuitive AI devices capable of functioning as continuous companions.

Analysts expect that combining Meta’s scale with Limitless’ technology will accelerate development of discreet and powerful wearables designed to reshape how users manage information, communicate, and interact with their environment.
