Amman — Jordan has firmly declared its airspace and national security a “red line,” vowing not to become a battleground amid soaring regional tensions following Israeli strikes on Iran.

On Friday morning, the Royal Jordanian Air Force and air defense systems intercepted multiple missiles and drones that had entered the Kingdom’s airspace, according to a report from the official Petra news agency.

The intercepted projectiles, believed to have been on a trajectory toward populated areas, posed an immediate risk of civilian casualties. Military assessments prompted swift action to neutralize the threat.

“Jordan has not and will not allow any violation of its airspace, nor will it permit its territory to be used in any regional conflict,” said Mohammad Momani, Minister of Government Communication and official government spokesperson. “The Kingdom’s national security is a red line.”

In response to the unfolding crisis, Jordan’s aviation authority announced a full suspension of air traffic. “The Kingdom’s airspace is temporarily closed, and all flights—arrivals, departures, and transits—are suspended as a precautionary measure against regional risks,” the authority stated.

The Jordanian Armed Forces were placed on high alert, with the General Command confirming heightened operational and logistical readiness to respond to any emergency. “We are monitoring developments in the region very closely,” a military source emphasized.

Momani also called on the international community to step up efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore regional stability. “It is imperative for global actors to act responsibly and prevent further escalation,” he urged.

The latest developments mark a critical moment in the Middle East, as nations brace for possible fallout from the ongoing confrontation between Israel and Iran.
