Speaking to Indian broadcaster NDTV, Hasina, 78, dismissed the death sentence against her as the outcome of what she described as an “illegal, unconstitutional and politically motivated process” and said she was not deterred by the prospect of execution.

“I want to say clearly: overcoming every obstacle and every conspiracy, I will return to my country this year,” Hasina said in response to a question about whether she would return despite the court’s ruling.

Hasina fled to neighboring India in August 2024 after a student-led uprising ended her 15-year tenure in office. Since leaving Bangladesh, she has largely remained out of public view, making only limited public appearances, including a speech broadcast to a gathering at a press club in New Delhi in January.

Last November, a court in Dhaka found Hasina guilty of incitement, ordering killings and failing to prevent atrocities, sentencing her to death in absentia. Bangladeshi authorities have also outlawed the activities of her former ruling Awami League, once one of the country’s dominant political parties.

In the interview, Hasina defended her years in office, saying she had been elected prime minister five times and had overseen what she described as unprecedented national development.

Relations between India and Bangladesh have improved since Prime Minister Tarique Rahman secured a landslide election victory in February. However, Bangladesh has continued to press India to extradite Hasina, keeping the issue a source of bilateral friction.

Venezuela’s immigration authority said in a brief statement that Saab’s deportation was linked to ongoing criminal investigations in the United States, although officials did not explicitly confirm his destination. The statement referred to Saab solely as a Colombian citizen, an apparent acknowledgment of Venezuelan constitutional restrictions prohibiting the extradition of Venezuelan nationals.

Saab, 54, was previously released and returned to Venezuela in 2023 after former U.S. President Joe Biden granted him clemency as part of a prisoner exchange between Washington and Caracas.The businessman had long been regarded by U.S. authorities as a key financial operator for Maduro’s government, helping manage overseas commercial networks and sanctions-sensitive transactions.

Maduro’s administration had described Saab as a diplomat carrying out humanitarian missions when he was detained during a 2020 refueling stop in Cape Verde while traveling to Iran.The latest move follows major political upheaval in Venezuela after Maduro’s removal from power earlier this year and the emergence of acting President Delcy Rodriguez as the country’s interim leader.

According to reports, Rodríguez removed Saab from his government positions after assuming office on Jan. 3, stripping him of influence over foreign investment channels tied to the Venezuelan state. Unconfirmed reports in recent months suggested Saab had been under detention or restricted movement inside Venezuela.

The Associated Press reported in February that U.S. federal prosecutors had intensified scrutiny of Saab’s alleged role in a bribery scheme linked to Venezuelan food import contracts under the government’s CLAP distribution program.The investigation reportedly stems from a 2021 U.S. Justice Department case involving Saab associate Alvaro Pulido.

Prosecutors in Miami have examined allegations surrounding contracts tied to the CLAP system, which was created to distribute subsidized food staples to Venezuelans during years of economic collapse, hyperinflation and shortages.

U.S. authorities have alleged that Saab accumulated substantial wealth through government-linked contracts and opaque financial arrangements connected to Venezuela’s state apparatus.The U.S. Justice Department did not immediately comment on Saturday’s deportation announcement.

The 40-year-old suspect is alleged to have headed a hacking organization operating from overseas bases, including Thailand, that targeted websites of low-cost mobile carriers and other companies between August 2023 and April 2025, according to a statement from South Korea’s Justice Ministry.

The suspect was arrested in Bangkok during an Interpol-coordinated operation and transferred to South Korea through cooperation between Thai authorities and Seoul’s National Police Agency. He arrived at Incheon International Airport on Wednesday, officials said.

Investigators allege the group used illegally acquired personal data to infiltrate financial and cryptocurrency accounts before making unauthorized withdrawals from victims.

South Korean media reports said the alleged victims included celebrities, senior business executives and startup founders. Jungkook, a member of global K-pop group BTS, was among those reportedly targeted.

According to the Kyunghyang Shinmun newspaper, Jungkook’s securities account identity was allegedly compromised and shares in HYBE valued at 8.4 billion won ($5.6 million) were transferred without authorization.

The report said the singer avoided financial losses after payment suspension measures were implemented immediately.

South Korean authorities said an alleged accomplice, a 36-year-old Chinese national arrested in Thailand in May 2025, had already been extradited to South Korea in August last year and was indicted the following month. Court proceedings against him remain ongoing.

South Korean prosecutors and investigators traveled to Thailand in July 2025 for meetings with Thai police and prosecutors as part of the cross-border investigation, according to officials.

The case highlights growing regional cooperation among Asian law enforcement agencies against cybercrime networks that increasingly operate across jurisdictions and target digital financial systems, cryptocurrency holdings and personal data infrastructures.

Dela Rosa, a former national police chief and one of the principal architects of Duterte’s war on drugs, has remained inside the Philippine Senate building for a third consecutive day after Senate leaders blocked attempts by authorities to serve an ICC arrest warrant.

The senator, widely known by his nickname “Bato,” faces accusations of crimes against humanity, specifically murder, alongside Duterte and other alleged co-perpetrators linked to the anti-narcotics crackdown that rights groups say left thousands dead.
“I am not appealing for violent support.

I am appealing for peaceful support,” Dela Rosa told reporters, urging military personnel and fellow graduates of the Philippine Military Academy to publicly oppose any move by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration to surrender him to international authorities.

Outside the Senate complex in Manila, approximately 500 riot police were deployed as several hundred demonstrators gathered to demand Dela Rosa’s arrest and extradition to the ICC. Protesters described him as a central figure in the deadly anti-drug campaign launched during Duterte’s presidency.

Dela Rosa served as Philippine police chief from 2016 to 2018, overseeing the early and most intense phase of Duterte’s crackdown on narcotics. Human rights organizations and international investigators have alleged that many of those killed were low-level drug suspects and users.

Duterte himself was arrested in March last year and transferred to The Hague on the same day, where he remains in detention awaiting trial before the ICC.

Dela Rosa had largely avoided public appearances since November before resurfacing this week during a Senate vote that enabled Duterte-aligned lawmakers to secure leadership control of the chamber.

The Senate’s new leadership has stated it would permit Dela Rosa’s arrest only if directed by a Philippine court rather than solely on the basis of the ICC warrant.

A spokesperson for Marcos said on Tuesday that the president would not interfere in Senate decisions regarding the matter.

The Philippine Supreme Court has yet to rule on Dela Rosa’s petition seeking to block the government from enforcing the ICC arrest order.

Flores, a regional commander who controlled large portions of CJNG territory along Mexico’s Pacific coast, had been viewed by security analysts as a potential successor to cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera, known as “El Mencho,” following Oseguera’s death in a security operation in February.Garcia Harfuch said on social media platform X that Flores was detained under a Mexican arrest warrant and also faced criminal charges in the United States.

“He is also wanted by U.S. authorities for extradition. The U.S. government had offered a $5 million reward for his capture,” Garcia Harfuch wrote.The U.S. Treasury Department previously identified Flores as a “significant foreign narcotics trafficker” and said that a U.S. grand jury in 2021 charged him with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and heroin, among other offenses.

CJNG is one of Mexico’s most powerful and violent criminal organizations, with operations spanning drug trafficking, extortion and territorial control across several states. The cartel has long been a major target of both Mexican and U.S. authorities.

Carlos Olivo, a former U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration assistant special agent in charge and an expert on CJNG, said Flores’ arrest could have a deeper operational impact than the earlier killing of El Mencho.“He’s a significant figure,” Olivo said. “His arrest will have a bigger effect on CJNG operations than Mencho being taken out.”The detention is the latest development in a broader campaign against Mexico’s drug cartels under intensified federal security operations.

Garcia Harfuch has made the dismantling of CJNG leadership a priority and previously blamed El Mencho for a 2020 assassination attempt against him in which two of his bodyguards were killed.Security analysts had identified Flores as one of several senior regional commanders positioned to compete for control of the cartel after leadership disruptions earlier this year.

Mexico’s security environment remains under heightened international attention as the country prepares to co-host the FIFA World Cup this summer with the United States and Canada, placing additional pressure on authorities to demonstrate progress against organized crime and violence.

Li, a former chairman of the board at Huione Pay, is accused of being a core member of a criminal syndicate linked to Chinese-Cambodian businessman Chen Zhi, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.

Chen was extradited to China in January and is currently in detention, authorities said.The case is part of a broader international crackdown on transnational fraud networks operating across Southeast Asia.

The United States said last October that it and the United Kingdom had taken action against Chen’s Prince Group, describing it as a criminal enterprise involved in online investment scams. U.S. authorities also accused the Huione Group of laundering proceeds from such schemes, as well as cyber heists linked to North Korea.

According to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the Huione Group allegedly laundered at least $4 billion in illicit proceeds between August 2021 and January 2025.

Reuters could not seek comment from Huione, which has since been dissolved. A U.S.-based representative for Prince Group did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside business hours.

Cambodian government spokesperson Touch Sokhak said China had sent experts to assist local authorities in the investigation, which ultimately led to Li’s arrest and extradition.

“This shows Cambodia’s will to clear out online scams and that Cambodia is not a safe haven for scam criminals,” Sokhak said.

China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Beijing would continue to work with Cambodia to combat cross-border telecommunications fraud, highlighting deepening cooperation between the two countries in tackling organised financial crime.
