Dubai— The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defense said early Friday that the country’s air defenses were intercepting drones and missiles targeting UAE territory, underscoring mounting pressure on a fragile ceasefire between Iran and the United States following weeks of regional conflict.

The ministry said in a statement that defense systems were “actively engaging” aerial threats and urged residents not to approach or photograph debris from intercepted projectiles. The attack came hours after the U.S. military said American naval forces in the Strait of Hormuz had intercepted Iranian attacks targeting three U.S. Navy vessels late Thursday and carried out retaliatory strikes against Iranian military facilities linked to operations against American forces.

United States Central Command said in a social media statement that U.S. forces responded to “unprovoked Iranian attacks” with what it described as self-defense strikes. The military said no American ships were hit and added that Washington did not seek further escalation but remained prepared to defend U.S. personnel and assets in the region.

Donald Trump told reporters in Washington that the ceasefire agreement between Tehran and Washington was still in effect despite renewed hostilities.

The latest violence threatens a truce that has largely held since April 8 after nearly six weeks of conflict triggered by U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets beginning Feb. 28.The UAE was among the Gulf states most affected during the conflict, facing repeated missile and drone attacks that authorities attributed to Iran.

Emirati officials said this week that strikes reported on Monday and Tuesday marked the first attacks on UAE territory since the ceasefire took effect.

According to UAE authorities, the country has been targeted by more than 2,000 drones, hundreds of ballistic missiles and dozens of cruise missiles since the war began. Officials said most were intercepted, but the attacks killed at least 13 people, injured more than 200 and damaged energy infrastructure and prominent buildings.

Other Gulf Arab countries also reported attacks during the conflict despite maintaining they were not directly participating in the U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran.On Thursday, the UAE announced the formation of a national committee to document what it described as Iranian attacks and the resulting human, economic and material losses, laying groundwork for potential legal action against Tehran.

State news agency WAM said the committee, chaired by the UAE attorney general, would gather evidence according to internationally recognized legal and technical standards to support future claims for accountability, reparations and justice. The move followed renewed diplomatic tensions after the UAE condemned statements by Iranian officials accusing Abu Dhabi’s security cooperation with Washington of threatening Iran’s national interests.

The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the country’s defense partnerships were a sovereign matter.

Efforts to secure a broader settlement remain stalled after talks hosted by Pakistan last month between U.S. and Iranian representatives ended without a comprehensive agreement to halt the conflict permanently.

New Delhi — India on Tuesday condemned a drone strike on an energy facility in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, that injured three Indian nationals, and called for the immediate cessation of hostilities and uninterrupted maritime access through the Strait of Hormuz, citing risks to global energy flows.

The UAE blamed Iran for the attack, which occurred on Monday at an energy installation along the Gulf coast. Iranian state television said the Islamic republic had “no pre-planned program” to target oil facilities in the UAE.

India’s foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said New Delhi “calls for immediate cessation of these hostilities and the targeting of civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians,” adding that the country supports efforts toward a peaceful resolution.

He also urged “free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz in keeping with international law.”The incident comes amid broader disruptions to energy supply chains since the onset of conflict in the Middle East in late February. India, the world’s third-largest oil importer, typically sources about half of its crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy shipments.

Analysts have warned that India’s reliance on imported energy, combined with relatively modest strategic reserves compared with major consumers such as China, leaves it exposed to price volatility and supply shocks linked to regional instability.Shipping and import data indicate that New Delhi has moved to offset disruptions by diversifying supply, including increased reliance on Russian crude.

This shift follows earlier efforts to reduce dependence on such imports amid pressure from U.S. trade measures.India has reiterated its readiness to support diplomatic initiatives aimed at stabilizing the region, as tensions continue to threaten key maritime routes and energy infrastructure.

Kyiv — A Russian drone strike killed two people and wounded seven others after hitting a minibus in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson on Saturday, local officials said, as Moscow separately claimed fresh territorial gains along the northeastern front line.

Regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said the drone struck a civilian minibus in Kherson, part of a continuing pattern of attacks on populated areas since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than four years ago.Hours later, another Russian attack targeted a second minibus in the city, wounding the driver, Prokudin said.

On Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, a separate Russian strike damaged port infrastructure in Odesa, though no casualties were reported. While civilian areas continued to come under fire, Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces had taken control of the village of Myropillia in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region, near the Russian border.

The battlefield claim could not be independently verified, and Ukrainian authorities did not immediately comment. The roughly 1,250-kilometer front line remains largely static despite months of fighting, with U.S.-backed diplomatic efforts failing to secure a ceasefire.

Recent international focus on the Iran war has also shifted attention away from the conflict in Ukraine. In Russia, officials in the Krasnodar region said firefighters had extinguished a blaze at an oil terminal in the Black Sea port city of Tuapse that broke out Friday following a Ukrainian strike.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted the Tuapse refinery and export terminal in recent weeks as part of a broader campaign aimed at disrupting Russian oil exports, a major source of wartime revenue for the Kremlin.

The economic effect of those strikes remains uncertain, however, as higher global oil prices linked to the Iran war and a partial easing of U.S. sanctions have helped offset some of the pressure on Moscow’s energy revenues.

Moscow— A fresh Ukrainian drone strike hit Russia’s Black Sea port of Tuapse early on Friday, igniting a fire at

Moscow— A fresh Ukrainian drone strike hit Russia’s Black Sea port of Tuapse early on Friday, igniting a fire at the seaport terminal and marking the fourth attack on the strategic energy hub in the past week, regional officials said.

Authorities in Russia’s Krasnodar region said no injuries were reported, but emergency crews were deployed to contain the blaze at the port, which has become a repeated target because of its major oil terminal and refinery infrastructure.

“In Tuapse, as a result of a drone attack by the Kyiv regime, a fire broke out on the territory of the seaport terminal,” the regional emergency headquarters said in a statement on Telegram.Officials said 128 firefighters and 41 emergency vehicles were sent to the site to tackle the fire.

The latest strike comes days after a major drone attack on Tuesday triggered a large blaze at the Tuapse refinery, forcing a production shutdown and causing oil leakage into nearby coastal waters. The refinery fire was extinguished on Thursday morning, according to local Governor Veniamin Kondratyev.

A state of emergency has remained in place in the area since Tuesday as authorities continue cleanup operations along the Black Sea coastline.Emergency workers said on Thursday they had identified five additional oil-contaminated sections of coast. In total, officials reported removing 12,600 cubic meters of polluted material from beaches and surrounding areas.

The environmental fallout has disrupted daily life in Tuapse, with local authorities advising residents not to drink tap water or use natural spring water as a precaution and urging people to limit time outdoors due to elevated benzene levels in the air.

Russia’s consumer safety watchdog Rospotrebnadzor recommended residents keep windows closed and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure. May holiday celebrations and large public events were canceled. The official reassurances triggered criticism online from residents who questioned statements that the situation remained safe.

“How about she comes to visit us and tries our fresh air?” one social media user wrote in response to comments by Rospotrebnadzor chief Anna Popova, who said the situation posed no health risks.

Tuapse, a major Black Sea export point for Russian oil products, has faced repeated attacks as Ukraine intensifies long-range drone operations targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure.Kyiv has increasingly focused strikes on refineries, ports and fuel depots deep inside Russian territory, seeking to disrupt one of Moscow’s main sources of war financing as global oil prices remain elevated during the Iran conflict.

Ukrainian drones also struck an oil refinery near the Russian city of Perm on Thursday, marking the second consecutive attack on oil facilities in the Ural region.Ukraine’s military separately said it had targeted a refinery in Russia’s southern Orenburg region, roughly 1,500 km from the Ukrainian border, underlining Kyiv’s growing capacity for long-range attacks.

Russia has not independently confirmed the extent of damage from those strikes.Ukraine says its campaign against Russian energy infrastructure is a response to sustained Russian attacks on Ukrainian power plants, fuel depots and heating systems, which have caused widespread blackouts and civilian hardship, particularly during winter.

Moscow and Kyiv have both escalated attacks on energy assets as the war enters another prolonged phase, turning fuel infrastructure into one of the central battlegrounds of the conflict.

Kyiv — Ukraine marked the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster on Sunday under the shadow of Russia’s ongoing war,

Kyiv — Ukraine marked the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster on Sunday under the shadow of Russia’s ongoing war, as officials warned that repeated military activity near the site risks triggering new nuclear dangers at the location of the world’s worst civilian nuclear accident.

The commemoration comes as Kyiv accuses Moscow of repeatedly sending missiles and drones along flight paths near the former Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant while attacking Ukrainian cities, including a February 2025 drone strike that damaged the plant’s protective confinement structure.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said the original 1986 catastrophe was caused by a reactor experiment ordered by Soviet authorities in Moscow in violation of safety rules and followed by concealment of the scale of the disaster.

“The Chernobyl disaster was the result of a reactor experiment ordered by Moscow, in violation of safety protocols, and followed by lies and cover-ups,” the ministry said in a statement this week.

Millions of people across Europe were exposed to radiation after reactor four exploded during a late-night safety test on April 26, 1986, sending radioactive material across large parts of the continent.

Hundreds of thousands were evacuated, while vast agricultural and residential areas were rendered unsafe for habitation.Thousands later developed radiation-related illnesses, including cancer, though the total death toll remains disputed among researchers and international agencies.

A major international engineering effort led to the installation in 2016 of a vast steel and concrete confinement arch over the original sarcophagus hastily built after the explosion to contain radioactive debris.

That structure, designed to prevent further contamination, was punctured during a Russian drone strike in February 2025, Ukrainian officials said.

While no radiation leaks were detected, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development estimates repairs will require at least 500 million euros to prevent lasting damage.

Earlier this week, Ukraine’s top state prosecutor told that radar systems had detected at least 92 Russian drones flying within five kilometers of the protective shield since June 2024, raising renewed international concern over the safety of the site.

Russia has denied accusations of deliberately endangering nuclear facilities during the war, while previous disputes over attacks near energy infrastructure have intensified fears of a broader nuclear emergency.

Located about 100 kilometers north of Kyiv, the plant remains inside a 2,600-square-kilometer exclusion zone established after the disaster. Around 2,250 employees continue to work in rotating shifts to oversee the long-term decommissioning of the site.

The plant’s final operational reactor was shut down in 2000.The control room of reactor four now stands dark and rusted, filled with damaged Soviet-era machinery left as a reminder of the explosion.Outside, wildlife including moose and wild horses roam through the abandoned forests and the nearby ghost city of Pripyat, where nature has reclaimed neighborhoods once evacuated in haste.

Security concerns continue to shape official remembrance ceremonies in wartime Ukraine, with authorities typically withholding details of commemorations in advance to reduce risks from missile and drone attacks.

For many Ukrainians, the anniversary now serves not only as a memorial to a Soviet-era catastrophe, but also as a warning of how war can once again place Europe’s nuclear safety at risk.

Moscow — A Ukrainian drone strike on residential buildings in Syzran killed a woman and a child and injured 12 people, the governor of the Samara Region said on Wednesday, as cross-border attacks continue amid stalled peace efforts.

Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said two apartment blocks were hit in the attack, leading to a partial collapse of one building entrance. The victims were later pulled from the rubble during rescue operations.“Two people an adult woman and a child have died in Syzran following an attack by an enemy drone,” Fedorishchev said in a statement, describing the incident as a crime against civilians.

Russia’s Emergency Ministry, cited by domestic news agencies, said rescue efforts had been completed and that no additional victims were believed to be trapped under the debris. No further casualty details were provided.

There was no immediate response from Ukraine. Both Kyiv and Moscow have consistently denied deliberately targeting civilian populations since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The strike comes as Ukraine has intensified attacks on Russian infrastructure in recent months, particularly energy-related sites, while U.S.-mediated peace talks remain on hold and Washington’s attention is partly focused on escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Syzran, located roughly 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, is home to a major oil refinery, underscoring its strategic importance within Russia’s energy network.

Khartoum — A drone strike on the paramilitary-controlled town of Kutum in Sudan’s North Darfur region killed 12 civilians, including six children, a medical source and local activists said on Thursday.

The strike, which occurred on Wednesday, targeted the Al-Salama neighborhood near a girls’ school, according to the El-Fasher Resistance Committee.

The group attributed the attack to the Sudanese army, which has been engaged in a conflict with the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023.

A medical source said the victims brought to a local hospital included six children, among them three secondary school students.

Sixteen others were wounded in the attack, including women and children, and are receiving treatment.

The strike underscores the continuing toll of the conflict in Sudan’s Darfur region, where fighting between the army and paramilitary forces has displaced large numbers of civilians and strained already limited medical resources.

Moscow — A Ukrainian drone attack killed one person and damaged residential and industrial sites in Taganrog on Sunday, regional officials said, as aerial strikes continued along Russia’s southern border with Ukraine.

Yuri Slyusar, governor of the Rostov Oblast, said falling drone debris triggered fires and prompted evacuations in affected areas.

“Emergency crews are working at the site of the incident, where the debris fell,” he said on Telegram, adding that damage had been recorded and residents moved to safety.

Taganrog Mayor Svetlana Kambulova said emergency services responded to 49 incidents across the city. Eight people were reported injured.

She said debris from intercepted drones damaged multiple residential buildings, social infrastructure and industrial facilities. Emergency crews remained deployed, while air defense units continued operations in the area.

Taganrog, a port city on the eastern edge of the Sea of Azov, lies close to the Ukrainian border and has periodically been affected by spillover from the conflict.

There was no immediate comment from Ukrainian authorities on the reported strike.

Kuwait City— Drones struck a fuel storage tank at Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, triggering a fire with no reported casualties, the country’s civil aviation authority said.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said in a statement that emergency teams were deployed to contain the blaze after the attack targeted airport fuel infrastructure. Firefighting units were working at the site, and no injuries had been reported.

The incident comes amid heightened regional instability linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States, which has raised concerns over the security of critical infrastructure across the Gulf.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, and Kuwaiti authorities did not provide further details on the origin of the drones or the extent of the damage.
