UKMTO said it received a report of an incident approximately 30 nautical miles southwest of the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah after the cargo ship transmitted a distress alert indicating it was under attack by unidentified armed assailants.

The agency did not provide details about the nature of the assault, the identity of the attackers or the condition of the vessel and its crew. No information was immediately available regarding casualties or damage.

British maritime authorities said the incident remained under investigation and urged commercial vessels operating in the area to exercise heightened caution while navigating through the region.

UKMTO also advised ships to report any suspicious activity immediately, in line with established maritime security procedures, as efforts continued to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The waters off Yemen have remained a sensitive maritime corridor because of recurring security incidents affecting commercial shipping in the Red Sea, one of the world’s busiest trade routes linking Europe and Asia through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Suez Canal.

The latest report comes as maritime security agencies continue to monitor threats to merchant shipping in the region, where commercial operators have been encouraged to maintain close coordination with naval authorities and follow security guidance during transit.

No group had claimed responsibility for the reported attack, and authorities had not released additional information at the time of publication.

In a statement, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the latest U.S. attacks on coastal surveillance installations breached the memorandum of understanding reached by both sides to halt hostilities.

“These brutal attacks, which targeted Iranian coastal surveillance facilities, are a blatant violation” of the peace agreement, the ministry said.

The U.S. military said its forces launched strikes on Friday against Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar sites, describing the operation as a response to an Iranian attack on a cargo vessel transiting the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The exchange marks the latest escalation despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to preserve the ceasefire framework established after weeks of conflict. The competing accounts underscore the continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran over the implementation of the agreement.

Neither side indicated that formal negotiations had been suspended, but the latest military actions have raised fresh uncertainty over the durability of the peace arrangement.
