The blaze erupted in a music room on the fourth floor of Takinogawa Dai-san Elementary School in Tokyo’s Kita district, sending thick black smoke billowing from the building and triggering an emergency response involving 75 fire engines and dozens of firefighters.

All pupils and staff were evacuated safely, and firefighters brought the blaze under control after approximately three hours, media reports said.

Most of the injured suffered from smoke inhalation, according to Kyodo News. Four people were reportedly rescued from inside the school building during the operation.

Witnesses described scenes of confusion as helicopters circled overhead and parents rushed to the school to collect their children.

One eyewitness said several children escaped through classroom windows onto a concrete ledge before firefighters used ladders to bring them to safety.

A sixth-grade student said she and her classmates first noticed the smell of smoke while attending lessons two rooms away from the music room where the fire reportedly began.

“We thought maybe someone was cooking. Then the siren went off,” she said.

The student said children covered their mouths with handkerchiefs as they descended the stairs and evacuated to the school grounds.

“Then we saw the music room already burning with flames,” she said, adding that she heard a loud bang from an area between the music room and an adjacent multi-purpose room.

“It was scary, and a lot of kids were crying,” she said.

Authorities have not yet announced the cause of the fire, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Takinogawa Dai-san Elementary School is located in the northern part of Tokyo and serves students from the surrounding residential area.

An explosion was heard in the city before a vehicle was seen engulfed in flames, according to an AFP correspondent at the scene. Emergency responders and firefighters rushed to the area, where rescuers were observed pulling two people from the targeted car.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that the incident involved “an enemy strike on a car” in the center of Sidon. No immediate information was released regarding casualties or the identities of those inside the vehicle.

Sidon, a major commercial and population center on Lebanon’s Mediterranean coast, has been comparatively less affected than other parts of southern and eastern Lebanon that have experienced repeated Israeli strikes since the escalation of hostilities involving the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement and Israel.

The city hosts the country’s largest Palestinian refugee camp and has also received large numbers of people displaced by ongoing conflict in southern Lebanon.

The strike was the latest reported attack on Sidon after an Israeli strike on a building in the city on May 28 killed five people, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.

Separately on Wednesday, the Israeli military said its forces operating in southern Lebanon detained two individuals who approached troops in the area.

In a statement, the military said soldiers identified two “suspected individuals” near positions where Israeli forces were operating. The individuals were apprehended and transferred to Israel for questioning after troops moved to eliminate any potential threat.

The military did not provide further details regarding the identities of the detainees or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The developments underscore continuing security tensions along the Israel-Lebanon frontier, where military activity and cross-border hostilities have persisted despite international calls for de-escalation.

Sergei Aksyonov said on Telegram that the strike targeted non-residential facilities in the Crimean capital. He did not specify the type of attack or provide further details on the targeted sites.

The reported attack comes amid continuing hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides carrying out long-range strikes on military, energy and infrastructure targets.

Gunfire echoed through several districts of the Somali capital, with smoke rising over residential areas after hours of sporadic battles. Police said they were conducting a large-scale security operation against heavily armed militias accused of launching mortar attacks on parts of the city.

In a separate incident on Thursday, four people were killed in a fire that broke out in an intensive care unit at a hospital in Muzaffarpur, in the eastern state of Bihar, local officials said.

Yunus, a member of rights group KontraS, suffered severe injuries and lost sight in one eye after two men on a motorcycle threw acid at him in March shortly after he recorded a podcast discussing the military’s role in government.

The four defendants, all members of Indonesia’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), are charged with premeditated assault. Prosecutors told a military court in Jakarta that the attack was an act of personal revenge rather than an operation ordered by military superiors.

South African authorities have deployed officials to assist displaced migrants with documentation and voluntary return arrangements as fears of further violence persist.

In an interview published Wednesday, Trump said Iran had already agreed not to pursue a nuclear weapon and suggested Khamenei was directly involved in discussions with the United States.
