Tehran-Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will travel to Pakistan on Tuesday, Iranian state media reported, in a visit that follows recent talks between Tehran and Washington in Switzerland that were mediated by Islamabad.

The trip comes as Iran seeks to reinforce diplomatic engagement with regional partners after the Switzerland discussions, which marked a significant phase in contacts between Tehran and the United States.

According to the IRNA state news agency, one of the principal objectives of Pezeshkian’s visit is to convey Iran’s appreciation to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for Islamabad’s role in facilitating communication between Tehran and Washington.

Habibollah Abbasi, director of public relations at the Iranian president’s office, said the visit would include discussions linked to Pakistan’s mediation efforts and broader bilateral relations between the neighboring countries.

Pakistan has maintained diplomatic channels with both Iran and the United States and has periodically sought to support dialogue aimed at reducing regional tensions. The mediation role highlighted by Tehran reflects Islamabad’s efforts to position itself as a facilitator in regional diplomacy.

Neither Iranian nor Pakistani officials disclosed further details regarding the agenda of the visit, including whether new agreements or joint initiatives would be announced during Pezeshkian’s stay.

The visit takes place amid continued diplomatic activity in the region following the Switzerland talks, with governments assessing opportunities for broader engagement and stability through dialogue.

Pezeshkian’s meetings in Pakistan are expected to focus on bilateral cooperation as well as regional and international developments of mutual interest, according to Iranian state media.

Putrajya – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim pledged stronger protections for Bangladeshi migrant workers on Monday, promising action against labor

Putrajya – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim pledged stronger protections for Bangladeshi migrant workers on Monday, promising action against labor exploitation as he hosted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during the latter’s first overseas visit since taking office earlier this year.

The commitment comes amid growing scrutiny of labor practices affecting Bangladeshis, who comprise Malaysia’s largest foreign workforce and play a critical role in sectors ranging from construction and manufacturing to plantations and services.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Putrajaya, Anwar said cooperation on labor issues was essential to both countries and stressed that worker exploitation for corporate or personal gain would not be tolerated.

Around 800,000 Bangladeshi nationals are employed in Malaysia, accounting for roughly one-third of the country’s migrant workforce. Many have faced challenges including unpaid wages, excessive recruitment costs and fraudulent employment schemes that have left workers burdened with debt and, in some cases, without promised jobs.

Anwar said Malaysia was committed to improving conditions for foreign workers and ensuring that labor migration systems operate fairly and responsibly.

Rahman called for recruitment procedures to become more transparent, affordable and accountable, urging authorities to reduce the role of intermediaries that often increase costs for prospective workers.

The issue has drawn international attention. In late 2025, United Nations human rights experts warned of continued exploitation, deception and debt bondage affecting Bangladeshi migrant workers in Malaysia. The experts urged both governments to strengthen oversight, protect workers from further victimization and hold fraudulent recruitment agencies accountable.

The labor discussions formed a central component of Rahman’s visit, which also reflects Bangladesh’s efforts to deepen economic engagement with key Asian partners following political changes in the country over the past two years.

Rahman, who became prime minister after elections in February, is scheduled to travel to China later on Monday for talks focused on trade, investment and infrastructure cooperation, according to Bangladeshi officials.

His decision to make Malaysia and China the destinations of his first official overseas trip highlights evolving regional diplomatic priorities for Dhaka.

Relations between Bangladesh and India have remained sensitive since the 2024 uprising that removed former prime minister Sheikh Hasina from power. Hasina, a longtime partner of New Delhi, fled to India following her ouster, and Bangladeshi authorities have repeatedly requested her extradition.

Although ties between Dhaka and New Delhi have improved since Rahman assumed office, unresolved political issues continue to shape bilateral relations.

Against that backdrop, labor mobility and economic cooperation featured prominently during Monday’s discussions, with both governments signaling a desire to strengthen safeguards for migrant workers while maintaining one of Southeast Asia’s most important labor migration corridors.

Dubai-Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is scheduled to meet Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in Tehran on Saturday as Islamabad continues diplomatic efforts linked to ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States, according to Iranian state media.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Naqvi’s visit forms part of Pakistan’s continuing engagement on issues related to the dialogue between Tehran and Washington, the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) reported.

The meeting comes amid heightened regional diplomatic activity as governments across the Middle East seek to support channels of communication between Iran and the United States following months of tensions and negotiations over key security and political issues.

Neither Iranian nor Pakistani officials immediately disclosed the detailed agenda for the talks. However, Baghaei indicated that the visit is connected to Islamabad’s efforts surrounding the ongoing discussions involving Tehran and Washington.

Pakistan has maintained relations with both Iran and the United States and has periodically sought to facilitate diplomatic engagement during periods of regional uncertainty. The country shares a lengthy border with Iran and has frequently emphasized dialogue and regional stability as central elements of its foreign policy.

The planned discussions between Naqvi and Araqchi follow previous high-level contacts between officials from the two neighboring countries and underscore continued coordination on regional developments.

No further details were immediately available regarding the duration of Naqvi’s visit or whether additional meetings with Iranian officials were scheduled.

France-U.S. President Donald Trump sought to project unity with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a meeting on the sidelines of the G7 summit on Wednesday, offering warm praise for the Indian leader despite recent strains over trade disputes and a U.S. military strike that killed three Indian sailors in the Gulf of Oman.

The meeting took place in Evian-les-Bains, France, where Modi attended the summit as a guest of French President Emmanuel Macron. It came a week after India formally protested a U.S. strike on a tanker in the Gulf of Oman during Washington’s military campaign aimed at restricting oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

Appearing alongside Modi, Trump dismissed suggestions of tensions between the two countries

Seoul-Chinese President Xi Jinping said he and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reached an “important consensus” and agreed to strengthen bilateral ties and support regional and global stability following high-level talks in Pyongyang, North Korean state media KCNA reported on Wednesday.

In a message of thanks carried in full by KCNA, Xi said the two sides had “exchanged in-depth views on issues of common concern and reached a series of important joint consensus,” adding that the discussions reflected a shared intention to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.

Xi said he was willing to work with Kim “based on fundamental and long-term interests” to “steadily safeguard, consolidate and develop” relations between the two countries, while also contributing to broader peace and development. He described the visit as successfully concluded, saying it had taken ties into “a new historical stage” and expressed hope for future meetings.

The visit, Xi’s first to North Korea in seven years, took place from Monday to Tuesday, according to Chinese and North Korean state media. China’s Xinhua News Agency said the trip helped establish a deeper understanding between the two leaders and set a clearer direction for future cooperation.

Both sides agreed to expand engagement in areas including politics, the economy, trade, culture, agriculture, technology and construction, while also strengthening strategic communication between their governments, according to official reports.

Chinese and North Korean media also highlighted discussions on reopening border crossings and resuming civil aviation and international rail links as part of broader efforts to normalize exchanges.

KCNA reported that Xi and Kim also visited sites in Pyongyang including the Sino-Korean Friendship Tower, which commemorates Chinese soldiers killed in the Korean War, and a political training institution for party cadres.

Bangkok— Thailand said on Friday it would participate in a United Nations-backed arbitration process initiated by Cambodia to resolve a long-running maritime boundary dispute, while suspending all other bilateral discussions and keeping border crossings closed.

The dispute centers on a 26,000-square-kilometer area in the Gulf of Thailand believed to contain significant oil and natural gas reserves estimated to be worth about $300 billion. Both countries have claimed the area for more than 25 years.

Cambodia this week launched a compulsory conciliation process under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) after Thailand ended a 2001 framework agreement governing negotiations over the contested maritime zone.

Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said Bangkok would appoint two representatives to participate in the UN-backed process but criticized Cambodia’s decision to move ahead with arbitration rather than continue bilateral negotiations.

Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn defended the move, saying direct talks had been exhausted and expressing hope that Thailand would engage constructively in the process.

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said Thailand would halt all other negotiations with Cambodia, including talks related to land-border issues, and maintain the closure of border checkpoints.

Relations between the neighbors have remained strained since deadly border clashes last year that killed nearly 150 people and displaced more than 300,000, although a ceasefire agreed in December remains in place.

The UNCLOS conciliation process involves a five-member panel that issues non-binding recommendations. It has been used successfully only once before, when Timor-Leste and Australia resolved a decades-long maritime dispute.

Mexico City-Former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador sharply criticized U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday, accusing Washington of using “interventionist and unscrupulous practices” to strengthen Mexico’s right-wing opposition and undermine the ruling Morena movement, as tensions between the neighboring countries intensified.

In a five-page letter posted on X, López Obrador, who left office in 2024 but remains one of Mexico’s most influential political figures, said relations with Washington had deteriorated under Trump’s current administration and argued that the U.S. president had changed significantly since their earlier interactions.

“Speaking from what I personally experienced and can prove, the Trump of today is different from the one I dealt with,” López Obrador wrote, describing Trump during his first term as cooperative, pragmatic and open to dialogue.

He attributed what he called Trump’s transformation to “false friends and advisers, both internal and external,” whom he accused of leading the U.S. leader into policies detrimental to bilateral relations.

The comments represent one of López Obrador’s most direct interventions in public affairs since leaving office and amount to a strong endorsement of President Claudia Sheinbaum, his longtime political ally and successor. In the letter, he praised Sheinbaum as the “best president Mexico has had in our time.”

The remarks come amid growing strains between Mexico City and Washington after more than a year of often difficult but largely cooperative engagement. Sheinbaum has recently adopted a firmer tone toward the United States, emphasizing the need to defend Mexican sovereignty.

A major source of friction has been the U.S. Justice Department’s April indictment of 10 Mexican officials over alleged links to drug trafficking organizations. Mexican authorities have viewed the move as a sensitive issue in bilateral relations.

López Obrador accused U.S. officials of attempting to weaken Morena, the governing party he founded, under the banner of combating migration and narcotics-related crime.

Neither U.S. nor Mexican government officials immediately responded to requests for comment regarding López Obrador’s statements.

Mexico and the United States maintain one of the world’s largest economic relationships, with close cooperation on trade, migration and security issues, although political disputes have periodically strained ties between the two countries.

López Obrador ended his message with an appeal for improved relations, writing: “For the good of all, may the other Trump return.”

Beijing-China on Tuesday sharply criticized Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro after he described China as a continuing security threat, highlighting persistent tensions between the two countries despite recent Chinese assistance provided during supply shortages.

The dispute erupted after Teodoro told Reuters in an interview on Saturday that China remained a “severe threat” and had shown no evidence of long-term good faith, even after Beijing supplied fertilizer and fuel to the Philippines during shortages linked to regional conflict-related disruptions.

Responding to the remarks, China’s Foreign Ministry accused the Philippine defense chief of politicizing issues affecting ordinary citizens and disregarding the benefits of Chinese assistance.

Speaking at a regular briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Teodoro’s comments demonstrated that he was “solely driven by personal interests” and had failed to consider the welfare of the Philippine people.

Mao questioned how China could be expected to continue providing aid and essential supplies to the Philippines if such views prevailed among senior officials in Manila.

The exchange underscores the fragile state of relations between Beijing and Manila, which have been strained by longstanding maritime disputes, security concerns and competing strategic interests in the region.

Teodoro’s remarks reflected continued skepticism within the Philippine security establishment regarding China’s intentions, despite recent efforts by Beijing to project a more cooperative image through economic and humanitarian assistance.

China’s response signals growing frustration over what it views as Manila’s unwillingness to separate practical cooperation from broader geopolitical and security disagreements.

Neither side indicated any immediate plans for high-level talks following the latest diplomatic exchange.
