Mumbai — An Indian pilots’ association has urged authorities to further investigate a possible electrical failure as the cause of the 2025 Air India crash, challenging earlier suggestions of pilot error ahead of the final accident report.

The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP), which represents more than 5,000 aviators, submitted a letter to the aviation ministry proposing that a pre-takeoff electrical disturbance may have triggered an unintended shutdown of fuel supply to both engines of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner involved in the crash. The aircraft went down shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, killing 260 people.

A preliminary report released a month later by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau said fuel supply to the engines had been cut off moments before impact, but did not determine whether this was due to pilot action or a technical malfunction. In its submission dated May 1, the FIP described its findings as a “technical note” presenting a “credible cause” that warrants detailed examination.

It said a “prelift-off electrical disturbance could have caused unintended relay operation and dual engine fuel cut-off without pilot input.”The group also cited ongoing media speculation attributing the crash to pilot action, arguing that international norms require all plausible technical explanations to be thoroughly ruled out before conclusions are drawn.

It referenced standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization governing accident investigations. The final investigation report is expected next month, within the one-year timeframe mandated under international aviation rules. Authorities have not yet responded publicly to the pilots’ submission.

New Delhi— A Swiss International Air Lines flight bound for Zurich aborted takeoff at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport early Sunday after an engine issue, leaving four passengers and one crew member injured during an emergency evacuation, the airline said.

Flight LX147, operating from New Delhi to Zurich, encountered a problem with one of its engines shortly after 1 a.m. local time while accelerating on the runway for departure.

“The crew aborted the takeoff and, after assessing the situation, decided as a precaution to evacuate the aircraft,” Swiss International said in a statement.

The airline did not provide further details on the engine malfunction, but India’s Economic Times reported that one engine had caught fire during takeoff roll, prompting the emergency evacuation.

The aircraft involved was an Airbus A330 carrying 228 passengers, four infants and 13 crew members.Swiss International said the injured passengers were taken to hospital, while the injured crew member suffered a sprained ankle.

The airline had initially reported six injuries before revising the number to five.Airport authorities declared an emergency following the incident, according to a source familiar with the matter, though runway operations later resumed. The airline said it had established a task force to investigate the cause of the incident.

The aborted takeoff adds to a series of recent aviation safety incidents involving emergency evacuations, where injuries often occur during rapid exits rather than from the technical malfunction itself.

Authorities have not yet released an official cause of the engine issue, and further investigation is underway.

Seoul — Republic of Korea Air Force apologised on Thursday for a 2021 mid-air collision involving two fighter jets, after a government audit found pilots were taking selfies and filming during the flight and held them responsible for the incident.

The apology followed a report by the Board of Audit and Inspection, which concluded that unapproved manoeuvres carried out for personal filming led to the collision between two F-15K aircraft during a formation exercise near Daegu in December 2021.

An air force spokesman said one of the pilots involved had been suspended from flying duties, faced severe disciplinary action and has since left the military.

According to the audit, a wingman pilot attempted to capture images to mark his final flight with the unit, performing a sharp climb and bank without authorisation to improve the camera angle, while another pilot recorded video from the lead aircraft.

As the jets closed distance, both crews attempted evasive manoeuvres, but the wingman’s tail struck the lead aircraft’s wing, causing damage estimated at around 880 million won (approximately $600,000). No injuries were reported.

The audit board held the wingman primarily responsible for the collision and also criticised the air force for inadequate controls on in-flight filming at the time. It ordered the pilot to repay roughly a tenth of the repair costs.

The air force said it is implementing stricter flight safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.

London— Irish police said on Sunday they had arrested a man in his forties who entered an unauthorized area at Shannon Airport and allegedly caused criminal damage, after footage circulated online appearing to show an individual climbing onto a U.S. Air Force aircraft.

Police said the incident occurred on Saturday, April 11, when the man accessed a restricted section of the airport in western Ireland. He was detained and remains in custody, according to an official statement.

Video shared on social media platform X appeared to show a person dressed in black standing on top of what media reports identified as a C-130 Hercules transport aircraft. The individual was seen striking the fuselage with an object.

Authorities did not immediately confirm the extent of any damage to the aircraft or how the individual gained access to the secure area.Shannon Airport has long been a focal point of political sensitivity in Ireland due to its role in facilitating the transit of U.S. military personnel and providing logistical support for overseas operations.

Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
