“I will rename any mosque with Vishnu’s name”: BJP’s foolhardy spokesperson

New Delhi – BJP’s spokesperson shushed his fellow Muslim panelist on a TV debate on Friday, with the threat to rename any Muslim mosque with Hindu deity – Vishnu’s – name.

The foolhardy BJP’s spokesperson Sambit Partra, infamous for his cynical and brazen insults towards his fellow panelists on TV debates, was debating an unknown MIM’s (Majlis Ittehadul-Muslimeen) representative – Syed Waqar – under the context of BJP’s latest name-changing craze.

Waqar implied that BJP has insulted their god Vishnu by renaming Lucknow’s Ekana stadium to late Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s name, since Ekana is one of the names of Vishnu.

Baffled by the statement, Patra lost his control and yelled, “Aye Suno Allah ke bhakt ho to baith jao warna kisi masjid ka naam badal kar bhagwan Vishnu ke naam rakh doonga” – “Listen, if you are Allah’s slave keep quiet, otherwise, I will rename any mosque with Vishnu’s name.”

During a debate in the past on IndiaToday, Patra humiliated a Congress spokesperson as Rahul Gandhi’s dog, which forced the show’s anchor Rajdeep Sardesai to issue an apology.

Muslim representatives have condemened Patra’s untamed remarks and demanded immediate apology. However, Patra has enjoyed insulting his opponents with impunity.

The disease of Unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir

by Drx Javeed Shameem

The increasing unemployment in a country like India; and the state of Jammu and Kashmir has reached to a new level of unemployment that has become everyone’s concern.

Every passing day adds to the quota of unemployed youth and this serious matter have left every educated youth in the dilemma, despair and hopelessness especially in the present state of affairs when there is a wide spread parallel corrupt system working against a so called government.

The viral state of corruption in our country has put a big question mark on the future of every deserving candidate when it comes to recruiting them for various jobs in different departments. There may be no need to provide a proof for this claim, as every native of this country knows about the scandals our country has faced so far at the hands of politicians.

Shaykh Saleh Al -Uthymeen has pointed out the evil effects of joblessness of youth in his book Mushkilatu Shabab (it simply refers problem of youth): “Joblessness is a disease that kills mental intellectual and physical capabilities. As a matter of fact, it is inevitable that human beings should move and work if they are deprived of work and activity their brains become beset, their intellects become exhausted, the discipline of their minds becomes weak and devilish insinuations and malicious thoughts take control of their hearts. Evil and wicked intentions may occur to them as a result of the depression that befalls them due to their joblessness.”

Keeping in the view the evil effects of unemployment it is not difficult to understand the cause of wide spread of drug abuse and the people responsible for it.

It is a great responsibility of the thoughtful people of our society to take the matter into consideration and find a way out for the present chaotic situation so that our treasure “the youth” may be saved from being exploited.

Kidney diseases are high in Odhisa due to illegal stone quarrying

0

by Ashish Senapati

Many villagers allege that quarry mafias in a clear nexus with ruling party leaders have been illegally lifting stones from the hillocks without getting any environmental clearance.

Neuli Pradhan, a 65-five-year-old mother of two from Jajpur’s Dankunia village in Dharmasala block of Odisha is inconsolable. She has lost both her sons to kidney ailments in the past two years.

Kailash Pradhan, who passed away three months ago at age 26, used to work in a stone quarry one kilometre away from Dankunia village. Residents allege that due to stone quarries – many of them illegal – kidney diseases have become part and parcel of everyday life for them.

“I have been spending sleepless nights for the past two years. Now, the cruel hand of fate has also snatched my younger son Kailash away,” says Neuli, clutching a photograph of Kailash.

Like Neuli, life came crashing down for 30-year-old Susama Dhir, whose 38-year-old husband Kusasan Dhir from Anjiragada village died two months ago from kidney failure. A traumatised Susama now has to look after their 14-year-old son by herself.

In 2017, 42-year-old Nrisingh Chakra from the same village had succumbed to kidney ailment. His wife, Madhu, blames the stone crusher units for the rise in kidney diseases in their village. “The air and water in our village are too polluted due to mushrooming of illegal stone crushers nearby. My husband was the victim of pollution. I am very worried over the fate of my two sons,” said Madhu.

In the past two years, around 50 locals from Anjira, Anjiragada, Gambharia, Muralipur, Bausadola, Balisahi, Patia, Bhojigotha, Shyamsundarpur, Kotasahi and Dhankunia villages in Anjira gram panchayat have died of kidney ailments, says Prahallad Mallick, a Panchayat samiti member.

“At least 200 people out of a population of 9,000 are suffering from kidney disease,” he says. “Although I fail to understand why the disease is so rampant in our gram panchayat, mostly villages near stone quarries are being affected,” adds Mallick.

Recently, the district administration directed the Chief District Medical Officer to inquire into the matter, says Ambika Dash, block development officer, Dharmasala. A medical team recently visited Anjira gram panchayat. “Fine stone particles are polluting the water bodies. Villagers consuming this water are falling prey to kidney diseases. Many locals are reluctant to undergo treatment,” said Kanhu Charana Nayak, the district public health officer, Jajpur.

“At present, government hospitals have no facility to treat kidney patients. Many villagers are undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack,” he added.

However, for 42-year-old Umesh Bhyan’s family, the treatment came at a huge cost. The resident from Annjiragada had to sell two acres of his land for treatment at SCB. Some like Bishnu Paika, 45, from Dankunia village wait for death as they are unable to afford the treatment.

Many villagers allege that quarry mafias in a clear nexus with ruling party leaders have been illegally lifting stones from the hillocks without getting any environmental clearance. The quarry mafias also damage the village roads as each day hundreds of stone-laden trucks, trackers and other vehicles move on the roads,” says Jagnnath Behera from Dankunia village.

Ashok Jena from Shymasundarpur village says that many hillocks were the source of water for locals till a decade back but due to flattening of the hillocks by lifting stones, we are facing water shortages.

Ranjan Kumar Das, the district collector of Jajpur told this reporter, “The district administration formed a squad comprising all the tehsildars, BDOs, labour officials and police to check all the quarry units. We have recently sealed around 260 illegal stone quarries and crushers in the district. I directed all the tehsildars to take action against illegal quarry works.”

‘Terrorism is not in Mosques’: a concept of transparent mosque by a Saudi artist

A Saudi-based artist and a math teacher has designed a transparent mosque as part of an art project called “Paradise Has Many Gates,” to send a strong message to the Islamophobes that mosques are not the places for breeding terrorists.

Ajlan Gharem, 32, who works as a math teacher at Al Sahabah Public school in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, who also co-founded Gharem Studios along with his brother Abdulnasser Gharem, went out of the box to present his art in a precise yet subtle way to those who call Mosques – a place for breeding terrorists.

He travelled all the way to Vancouver Canada at Open-air museum in June to present his concept. Later, “Paradise Has Many Gates” was erected in the parking lot of Houston’s Station Museum of Contemporary Art. And during all the summer it stayed in Texas.

The mosque is made up of severe steel fencing which is normally used by Europe to bar the refugees from entering and by the United States Military at Guantanamo Bay. This idea appealed a lot of people to praise his concept, but it sparked a lot of controversy as well.

“It’s not just something to show — it’s going to be a new space for ideas, for dialogue, for a new kind of conversation,” Gharem told media.

“For me the teaching thing is good, it gives me a chance to be among the people, among the society — the revolution is in the kids,” he said. “So, I’m a math teacher by day, and an artist by night,” he added.

His idea of the transparent mosque was to appeal the rational thinking of non-Muslims to reflect on the concept – what Muslims perform in a transparent mosque is the same what they perform in a walled-mosque, so it’s absolute ludicrous to relate Islam, Muslims and Mosques to terrorism.

His website states: “The mosque is a conduit for the symbolic power wielded by all those above the unwitting individual… The mosque is the public square reincarnate but with attendance mandatory, at least socially.”

Indians top the list of hardest working people in the world, survey claims

0

According to a recent survey done by Kronos Incoporated, an international workforce management company, Indians are the most hardworking people in the world.

The survey had the questionnaire, ‘would you like to work for five days a week, though you can work for lesser days for the same salary?’

69 per cent Indians responded ‘Yes’, while there were 43 per cent Mexicans, 27 per cent Americans, 19 per cent Australians, and 17 per cent French.

When asked about working four days a week if the salary remained the same, 34 per cent of the global workers (one-third) would opt to work four days a week and 20 per cent would prefer to work for three days a week.

Interestingly, 35 per cent of participants were ready to sacrifice their 20 per cent salary if they are provided the option to work a day less in the week.

When asked about working more than 40 hours every week, the US topped the list with 49 per cent of the participants working overtime. They were followed by India (44 per cent), Mexico (40 per cent) and Germany (38 per cent).

Even though the workers in Australia and the UK were not working for the most number of hours but they claimed that they did not get sufficient time in the day to complete their work.

Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen occupy 51,000 tons of grains to cause famine

Hodeidah – Yemen’s military under Saudi leadership recovered 51,000 tons of grains on Monday which was illegally occupied by the Iran-backed Houthi militias to cause famine in Yemen on a mass scale and use it as a tool of propaganda warfare against the coalition forces.

The military has freed the famous Red Sea Flour Mills Cooperation limited, which has had heavy deposits of wheat, grains, and pulses.

The occupied food could be enough to feed approximately 3.7 million starving Yemenis.

Adel Moukarshab, Yemen’s relief affairs coordinator said, “the Houthis were trying to create a food crisis in the city of 600,000 people to use as propaganda against the government offensive.”

Yemen’s Deputy Minister of youth and sport tweeted, “tons of wheat was under the control of Houthis. Houthis are the cause of death, killing, hunger and disease everywhere.”

A resident of Hodeidah, Abdulwahab Shoubail told UAE-based The National, “They looted many food stores of UN organizations and occupied warehouses of the World Food Programme and used them as hideouts for their soldiers and their military vehicles.”

Since Iran-backed militias have lost most of the illegally occupied areas of Yemen, it’s trying to push the narrative of famine against the Saudi-led coalition forces, in order to appeal international sympathy.

Another resident, Sameer Akhdar said, “The Houthis lost most of their power in Hodeidah. They have no military options so they are trying to push the city into famine to gain international sympathy and pressure the coalition to stop the military campaign to liberate the ports.”

Commenting on the disastrous methods adopted by the Houthis – Yemen’s Information Minister – Moammer al-Eryani tweeted, “I am surprised by the international silence on this. It is contrary to international law which states that international relief facilities should not be used as places of conflict and fighting.”

Since Monday, the coalition forces engaged in fierce confrontations against Houthi militias from Al-Saleh city till Al-Tis’een street in northern Hodeidah.

They have also destroyed Iran-backed military reinforcements in the directorates of Al-Jarrahi, Zabeed, Bait Al-Faqih and southern Hodeidah.

Shaadi me Fuzool Kharch

by Sajid Holy

Shaadi ya nikaah ko aasan banane ke mutallik kaee ahadees aayi hain. Nikah ko Islam me itna aasan banaya gaya hai ki agar kisi ke paas maal na ho aur use Quran ka iLm ho to woh apni biwi ki Quran sikha de, wahi uski mahr hogi. Ghurbat ki buniyad par nikah takheer se karna, yeh Islami taleemaat nahi hai. Agar kisi ke paas maal-o-mata na ho aur woh nikah ka intekhab kare to Allah uske rishto me barkat aur uski rozi ka intezam kar dega, in’sha’Allah.

“Sabse behtar shaadi woh hai jisme kharch kam ho” (mafhoom)
(al-Bayhaqi – Shu’ab al-Iman, Mishkat al-Masabih).

Agar paiso ki shakl me mahr di jaye to use bhi maqool karne ki taqeed hai taaki dulhe par bojh na ho aur isi tarha waleema ke bare me bhi kaha gaya hai :

Anas radiyallaho anho riwayat karte hain ki Nabi ne ‘Abd al-Rahmaan ibn ‘Awf radiyallaho anho  se (jab unka nikah hua to) kaha: “Waleema karo, chahe ek dumba (sheep) hi kyon na ho.” (mafhoom)
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.395

Ladki walo par jahez ka bojh dalne ke bare me kaee tafsire ho chuke hain. Is post me us mas’ale ka zikr nahi hai, balki ek alag musibat ki baat karna chahte hain, jiske sath ummat aankh’michauli khel rahi hai, nazarandaz kar rahi hai aur barbadi ka shikar ho rahi hai. Woh kya hai?

Agar ladka baaligh ho jaye aur nikah ki umr ko pacuch jaye, thodi bahut kamayi bhi shuru kar de, jisse woh apne gharwalo ka pet paal le, aur use yeh bhi andaza ya yakeen ho ki itni aamdani me mein apni hone wali biwi ke akhrajat bhi utha paunga, to use aur uske gharwalo ko chaihye ki phir nikah ke mamle me zyada takheer na kare, khoosoosan tab-jab ladki wale bhi

Deendari ki buniyad par showbaazi kiye bina, saadgi se nikah karne ko tayyar ho.

Lekin mamla iske bar’aqs yeh dekha jata hai, ki maujooda muashre ya society ne kuchh unwritten rules bana rakhe hain, itni tadaad me waleeme me guests ko invite karna, fala fala function hall ya marriage hall / shaadikhaane me program rakhna, dulhan(walo) ko itna itna gold dena yeh laazim qarar diya jata hai, aur yeh baat tayshuda samjhi jati hai ki iske baghair nikah ho hi nahi sakta. 4-5 lakh ya 8-10 lakh ko minimum criteria mutayyan kiya jata hai, aur ladke par sire se walidain ya rishtedaro ki taraf se bojh dala jata hai ki itni rakam ka intezam karo tab ja kar nikah hoga, warna nahi, kyonki hame samaaj me “mooh” dikhana hai (Allah ke samne nahi!)

Is musibat ko ladka bhi gale laga leta hai. Yaad rahe ki yeh kharch shadi “karne” ke liye mutayyan hota hai, naa ki “shaadi ke baad ghar chalane ke liye” kyonki logo ki zehniyat yeh hoti hai ki ghar me to chatni-roti kha kar guzara ho jayega, shadi ek bar hoti hai (kisne kaha ki phir teen martaba aur nahi ki ja sakti?) to zorshor se jashn manaya jaye aur logo ko dikha diya jaye ki yeh hamare laadle bete ki shaadi hai!

Iska anjaam aur is zehniyat ki haulnakiyan kitni khatarnaak hai, use gosh-guzar karna maqsood hai.

1) Jab ladke par yeh bojh daal diya jata hai, to phir use lagta hai ki apne mulk me rah kar itni rakam ka intezam karna practically possible nahi. Woh doosre mulk me job ki koshish karta hai, contract sign karta hai, jo barso tak chalta hai (shaadi ke baad bhi), yeh kadam kabhi to woh apne liye utha’ta hai to kabhi apni behn(o) ki shadi karwane ke liye. Yaad rahe ki is jadd-o-jahad ka maqsad shaadi karne tak hi mehdood hota hai, target wahi hota hai ki itna itna paisa jama ho jaye, shaadi “ho jaye”..bass. Is pasmanzar me jab woh doosre mulk me job kar leta hai, phir is bich kuch rakam jama ho jati hai, aur shaadi ho jati hai, phir use laaziman apne mulk se bahar jana hai. Har koi family visa afford nahi kar sakta.

Shaadi ho jane ke baad yeh bhoot sar se utar jata hai aur use ghar me zyada waqt bitane ki zaroorat mahsoos hoti hai, jo kaafi had tak namumkin hota hai, kyonki yeh sirf tab ho sakta hai jab use chhuttiya mila, warna nahi. Umr ka ek hissa isi tarha guzar jata hai, jis career ki shuruat usne mahaz “shaadi karne ke liya paisa ikath’tha karne ki garz se” ki thi, woh career ab use achhi nahi lagti aur woh sochta hai ki kash mene yeh kadam na uthaya hota ya shadi me itna kharch na kiya hota to shadi ke baad ki zindagi me yeh paisa kaam ata. Isi afsos ke sath budhapa aa jata hai.

2) Doosri shakl yeh hoti hai ki jab saadgi se shaadi karne par samaj rok lagata hai aur bekar ki formalities ke liye dher sare paise kharch karne ke liye andarooni zabardasti hoti hai, aur jab ek insan nahi kar pata to phir hame pata hona chahiye ki aakhir woh bhi ek mard hai aur uske andar bhi Allah ne jinsi khwahishat rakhi hai. Kabhi to aise naujawan masturbation, pornography movies literature wagairah ki taraf maail ho jate hai jisse unke gunaho me izafa hota hai aur kabhi to unki sexual health par buri asar hoti hai. Isse aage badh kar kuch naujawan zina ki taraf aage badh jate hain, aur is tarha unki dunya wa aakhirat barbad ho jati hai. Na sirf unki balki agar woh log rape jaise crimes kar baithe to phir samne wale ki zindagi bhi tabah kar deta hain. Iska gunah aur iski zimmedari kis par hai?

3) Teesri shakl yeh hoti hai ki kisi bhi tarha paisa jama karna hai. Zariya chahe “kuchh bhi” ho. Kuchh log karz me doobte chale jate hai. Karz e hasana ho tab bhi yeh bada bojh hai, jab ki ummat ka ek tabka aisa hai jo bank loans aur soodi nizam ke chakkar me bhi pad jata hai kyonki ab umr ho gayi hai, shaadi karna hai aur itni itni tayyari karna hai, saadgi se shaadi na to hamne ki thi, na hamare baap dada ya par’dada ne, miya gire par tangid oonchi ki shakl hoti hai aur karz me doob kar. Allah aur uske rasool (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) se jung ka elan karke (sood le kar) bhi shaadi me beshumar kharch karte hai, yeh nahoosat aur yeh bimari bhi aajkal ummate muslima me nasoor ki tarha phail chuki hai. Khwahishat e nafs ki pairwi me aur “arman nikalne” ke bahane me insan kis had tak gunaho me mulavvis hota chala jata hi, pata nahi chalta. Phir umr ka ek bada hissa us karz aur sood ko chukane me lag jata hai, aur ek waqt ata hai jab woh sochta hai ki yeh bhi kya zindagi hai, kash mene saadgi se shadi ki hoti.

Aur jo log na to sood me mulavvis hote hain, na unhe behrooni mulk jaa kar kamane ki zaroorat padti hai, na fahashi me mubtala hote hain, na shaadi me taakhir karte hain, balki sahib-e-nisaab hote hain aur baap dada ki badi jaagiren jinke paas hoti hain, woh log yeh samajh kar fizul kharchi aur shaadi me man’maani na karen ki hum log to sirf apna halal paisa apni marzi se kharch kar rahe hain, kyonki woh log bhi beja israaf karne ke gunah me pakde jayenge. Yahi woh log hai jo ummat ke maaldaar tabke se talluk rakhte hain, jo trendsetters hote hain, unhi ki wajah se society me mahol banta hai aur ghareeb par bhi yeh binzaroori zimmedari ayad ki jati hai ki tumhe bhi isi shaadi aur waleeme ki is tareeka-e-qaar se guzarna hoga aur isi shano shaukat se mehman nawazi karni hogi, jo ameero ka sheva hai. Inhi ki wajah se tarha tarha ki dishes serve karne wali catering services, wedding cards ki printing industry, tagdi fees wasool karne wale mahal-numa function halls aur zeenat’afroz shahi libaas banane wale wedding wear, party wear, ethnic dresses ke naam par textile industry phoolti’phalti hai aur ummat kar arbo rupya ek do din me dhuan dhuan ho jata hai.

Iske alawa bhi kaee musibato se insan do-char hota hai, lekin agar inhi halaat par ghaur karke aag lagne se pahle hi ummate muslima ke ghehri neend me soye hue log koonwa khod le to behtar hoga. Allah hum sabko gunaho se mehfooz rakhe. Aamin.

Response to Moazzam Begg’s notorious article to boycott Hajj to oppose Saudi Arabia

0

by Umme-Humayoon Begg

What the Kingdom magnanimously spends in return upon the pilgrims, pilgrimage and the Holy Mosques is way beyond the 3% Moazzem Begg boasts of spending.

Recently, the most nefarious man Moazzam Begg in his article ‘urged Muslims to oppose the Saudi government even if it cost them their Hajj’ and Tunisian religious official Fadhel Achour also called for boycott of Hajj.

Narrated Ibn ‘Umar: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: Islam is based on the following five principles:

  1. To testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ).
  2. To offer the (compulsory congregational) prayers dutifully and perfectly.
  3. To pay Zakat (i.e. obligatory charity)
  4. To perform Hajj (i.e. Pilgrimage to Mecca).
  5. To observe fast during the month of Ramadan, [Sahih Al-Bukhari 8, Vol.1, Book-2, Hadith 8]

And, ALLAH almighty says in Surah Al-Baqara Verse 196, “And complete the Hajj and Umrah for ALLAH”

Narrated Abu Huraira: ALLAH’s Messenger (ﷺ) said “And the reward of Hajj Mabrur (the one excepted by ALLAH) is nothing except Paradise.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari 1773, Vol. 3, Book-27, Hadith 1]

Only the most nefarious of men – like Moazzem Begg and Fadhel Achour – could sell an ideologue contrary to Quran and Sunnah – urging Muslims to boycott the 4th pillar of Islam i.e. Hajj.

Muslims must remind themselves of the wars Caliph Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq fought against the Apostates. Al-Khattaabee said there were two categories of apostates. The first who abandoned Islam altogether and the second category who distinguished between Prayer and Zakaat, recognizing the importance of Prayer but rejecting the beliefs that Zakaat is compulsory and that it must be paid to the Imam.

Al-Qaadee ‘Iyaadh classified the apostates into three categories – the third, who continued to believe in Islam, but denied Zakaat as being something specific to lifetime of Prophet.

Abu Bakr said, “By Allah, I will fight against anyone who distinguishes between Prayer and Zakaat.”

Umar ibn Al-Khattaab later confessed, “By Allah, in Abu Bakr’s decision to fight against the apostates, it became clear that Abu Bakr’s Faith (Eemaan) outweighs the faith of everyone from this nation put together”

There is a right and obligation upon every Muslim to pay Zakaat or perform Hajj. For Zakaat & Hajj – like the Prayer, the Testimony of Faith and Fasting – are one of the pillars of Islam. By rejecting any one of those pillars, one exits from the fold of Islam. In short, Abu Bakr made it clear that, without Zakaat, the testimony of faith has no value in the lives of people.

Imagine, urging Muslims to boycott a pillar of Islam Hajj, whereas our righteous Caliphs were so passionate to preserve them! Nothing could be as vile as intellectual dishonesty – especially when that comes from men like Fadhel Achour who is not opposed to gay marriages in Tunisia; OR Moazzem Begg who proclaims to have held interactions with extremist organizations in Syria and was declared a ‘terrorist risk’.

Moazzem Begg calls Saudi rulers ‘sycophants’ who live a treacherous ‘ultra-luxurious lifestyle’ off oil and pilgrimage, concluding ‘boycotting Hajj is a powerful weapon in their collective hands’ to punish and destabilize the Saudi government.

FACT is: Hajj spending makes a negligible 3% of Saudi GDP and revenues.

  • Projected Hajj spending in 2015 amounted to Sr. 17 bn ($ 4.5 bn).
  • Saudi Arabia had set a state budget for 2015 with total revenues projected to reach $190.7 billion (SR715 billion).
  • Moazzam Begg asserts Kingdom earns from Pilgrims. These stats contradict him.
  • Hajj Revenues / Total Revenues = Percentage Earnings
  • $ 4.5 bn / $ 190.7 bn = 2.35%
  • 2013 – Revenue from pilgrims makes 3% of Saudi GDP.
  • Saudi Study says Hajj 2017 Revenues Touch on $4 Billion.

FACT is: What the Kingdom magnanimously spends in return upon the pilgrims, pilgrimage and the Holy Mosques is way beyond the 3% Moazzem Begg boasts of spending. The Kingdom ensures flawless facilities, safety and security enabling the pilgrims to perform their rites in perfection.

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has started a massive SR500 billion ($133 bn) expansion projects which are underway and on-track in Madinah. Mega projects include expansion of Prophet Mosque at a cost of SR. 70 billion ($18.6 billion), Dar Al Hijra housing & services project worth SR. 55 billion ($14.6 billion), the Madinah Haramain high speed rail project at a cost of SR.60 billion ($16 billion), Knowledge City at SR.25 billion ($6.6 billion) and the expansion of Prince Mohammed Airport at SR.6 billion (1.6 billion).

Since 2008, Makkah expansion and construction projects for pilgrims, surrounding Makkah began as a three decade $227 billion plan. The largest single project is of $60 billion Grand Mosque Expansion.

These random stats should put ingrates calling for boycott to shame. The Kingdom serves selflessly without motives, without flaunting or bragging – testimony to the generous expenditure it has endured since decades. May ALLAH bless and aid them as Custodians of the two Holy Mosques!

Furthermore, to encourage non-pilgrimage tourism the SCTH under the initiatives of NTP 2020 shall implement 79 projects. Rehabilitation and operation of 15 handicraft centers, 28 urban heritage sites, establish 18 regional museums to 24 in Kingdom. SCTH will rehabilitate 80 archaeological sites, bringing their total to 155, in addition to registering three more sites on UNESCO World Heritage List, bringing Kingdom’s total registered acclaimed sites to seven.

More than 5,200 construction projects worth $800 billion are currently rolling out in all major cities of Saudi Arabia.

Vision 2030, the $500 billion NEOM expected to generate an annual income of $100 billion, and multi-billion dollar Al-Qiddiya Projects are testimony to Kingdom’s resolve to diversify tourism sector, reform Saudi economy for post-oil era and become an innovative force.

Last, I wish to put Begg’s arrogance in place who declares ‘as for Hajj and Umrah, it is in our hands’. No, it is not! Read Surah Al-Hajj and repent.

It was reported in at-Tabari (18:605-607) from Ibn Abbas that Prophet Ibrahim peace be upon him said: “O Lord, how can I convey this to people when my voice will not reach them?” It was said: ‘Call them and WE will convey it.’

So Ibrahim peace be upon him stood up and said: ‘O Mankind! Your Lord has established a House so come on pilgrimage to it.’ The mountains lowered themselves so that his voice would reach all regions of the Earth, and those who were still in their mother’s wombs and their father’s loins would hear the call. The response came from everyone in the cities, deserts and countryside, and those whom Allah decreed will make the pilgrimage until the Day of Judgment, as Allah said:

“And proclaim to the people the Hajj (pilgrimage); they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass”- [Surah Al Hajj 22:27]

O’ Muslims, protect your Faith and Hajj even if it costs the world!

India’s apex institutions are under threat: Justice Chemaleswar

0
by Tamanna Inamdaar

Justice Jasti Chelameswar may have retired as the second-most senior judge of the nation’s highest court in June, but his zeal to uphold democracy shows no signs of abating.

The firebrand jurist was one of the four Supreme Court judges that held a press conference in January to express concerns about then Chief Justice of India Justice Dipak Misra and the lack of transparency in the court’s functioning—a first for the apex court. The concerns, he said, were about a key institution in crisis.

“They thought I had a personal agenda,” he told BloombergQuint in a freewheeling chat. “So, why is this happening in the CBI and RBI?”

Justice Chelameswar was referring to controversies involving two of India’s apex institutions—the Reserve Bank of India and the Central Bureau of Investigation. While officials of the central bank and the Finance Ministry have sparred verbally over issues relating to RBI’s functioning and its limits, the director and special director of the premier investigating agency have been sent on leave over graft allegations.

When asked what the conference achieved, Justice Chelameswar said: “At least people debate such things now.”

He, however, refused to reveal the sequence of events leading to the conference. “The factual details, the blow-by-blow accounts will come later.”

Looking back, do you think the Jan. 12 press conference achieved the purpose you had hoped for?

I can’t say it achieved. Nothing happens in one day. Indian didn’t get independence the day the Congress party was formed by (Allan Octavian) Hume. It was a long struggle. Similarly, nothing concrete would happen overnight. It was a move which we believed was required to put the system in a better condition. It will take longer time.

Have you seen wheels set in motion as a result of that press conference?

I do see.

Could you elaborate?

I could, but the question isn’t elaboration. At least people debate about these things. Till then people were never debating these things. The country is debating about it. All kinds of arguments are made, both in support or against. A lot of people supported our move. Equally, a good number of people condemned us. But then, the debate goes on. What is important in a democracy is that a debate goes on, on an issue. To that extent it was a movement.

Did you at any point wonder why you took that decision? (to hold a press conference)

No, I never did. I’m not a child to take an impulsive decision. I don’t think of the four of us in the group, anyone is a child and not understanding what was happening, what we were doing.

What was the key reason that put you in a situation where you had to go to the public?

We tried all possible alternatives for putting things in order. Our efforts failed to put things in order, at least what we believed to be order, then we thought we owed a duty to the nation.

What was the biggest problem?

We released a letter that was written two months prior to that event indicating certain things.

Can you give us details?

This is one question I’m not going to answer in the immediate future. It requires some more time. The factual details, the blow-by-blow accounts will come later. At this juncture, going into those minute details is not going to help either the system or the individuals. Now a lot of people raised the questions. Unfortunately, from my point of view, one of the foremost lawyers of this country chose to see a personal agenda behind the press conference so far as I am concerned. What really baffled me is this: along with me there were three others. I had a personal agenda, I agree, for the sake of argument; but what about the others? Is it that they’re simply unable to see, or does it suit the convenient narrative? Because this system, perhaps in their view, is required to be protected. I don’t know for whose benefit.

Perhaps the comments you’re talking about also occurred because of a meeting with a political leader right after.

I am a free man. I can meet anybody.

Has there been this concern in your mind about people talking about a political influence behind your actions?

What people talk, with utmost respect to civil society, I’m not worried about. So long as my conscience is clear. A judge does not become civilly dead. He still has contacts, he has his own acquaintances, friends, relations. Certainly, a judge is required to maintain a certain degree of aloofness. That aloofness is to be judged from the work and judgments he is writing—not from who he’s dining with or whose marriage he’s attending. Even there, judges are required to be extra careful that they don’t attend private functions and residences of established criminals. Something like that. I met a politician here and there. Tell me which judge never met a politician in this country. I had a political affiliation. When judges, advocates are invited, a particular form is given. We are required to fill in the details about various things. Experience, income details and so on. And one of the columns is political affiliation. I am one of the few judges who declared my political affiliation. It’s a matter of record. I can’t wish away my past. I am sure civil society knows which judge has which association with which party. But how many of them declare? Everybody says “ No, no, we don’t have anything.”

That press conference put a sharp focus on institutions in this country. Fast forward to the present day and we have seen in the short span of one year, this messy situation with the CBI. We have seen a fairly public spat between the government and the RBI. There are many who say institutions are under threat today. Would you concur?

Why don’t you pose this question to those who criticised us? Saying that why couldn’t these judges settle things internally? Why are you asking me today? If the highest court of this country, a constitutional organ, is disturbed in its functioning, then why talk about other organisations that aren’t constitutional organisations? Their status is slightly lesser than constitutional. CBI isn’t even a statutory organisation. It’s a mythical beast. God alone knows what are its legal structures. In fact, there’s a judgment of the Gauhati High Court saying it has no statutory backing. The appeal is pending. The matter is still not decided by the court. I think these are matters which should be decided on priority basis. Nobody wants these things to be decided. These things, undecided, give a lot of scope for speculation. The result is all this.

You believe that institutions are under threat today?

Yes, of course. What’s happening in the CBI? What’s happening in the Reserve Bank (of India)? Apart from their legal status, are they not important institutions in the governance of this country? When we held the press conference there were people, great people, learned intellectuals, who believed that I had a personal agenda. So why is it happening in CBI? Why is it happening in the RBI?

The Supreme Court has decided that dates of the Ayodhya title suit will be announced in Jan. 2019. There’s chorus that supports an ordinance to be brought in. A Member of Parliament of the BJP says that he will move a private member’s bill. Do you think this raises question about those who say they have faith in the judiciary?

This is not a problem which arose today. Whenever there is something which has popular support, even of limited range, this problem arises. What happened in the Cauvery dispute? What happened in the Bihar river dispute? The concerned legislature passed enactments, nullifying the settlements. In Bihar water dispute, when Haryana legislature passed a law by nullifying the settlement, there was a presidential reference on whether such legislation should be made. It’s pending in the Supreme Court for more than 10 years. It’s not decided. Somebody was saying what happened to Jalikattu. How many people denounced the judgment? People think that (by) mustering the support of a section of the population, they can defy the judgment. The judgment on jurisprudence can be debated academically and that’s different matter. All of us are responsible for it. All political parties take a convenient stand whenever it suits them.

What happened in the Aadhaar case? Aadhaar scheme was propounded by the previous regime and this regime continues it. When it was challenged, a specific stand was taken. The challenge is on grounds that Aadhaar is likely to interfere with fundamental rights of citizens of this country. When the matter was listed before the bench, the Attorney General who is the voice of government, took a fundamental stand that there’s no fundamental right of privacy in Indian Constitution. Then we had to refer the matter to a larger bench because there are certain stray observations in one of the earlier judgments. At the end of it, when the judgment was delivered every political party, present ruling party, past ruling party said that “we stand vindicated”, ‘We supported the fundamental right’. “Nobody supported it.” They took a clear legal stand. They take their stand conveniently depending on what they believe to be suited for electoral advantage.

There was praises for the Supreme Court in recent months because of verdicts in the Sabarimala, Adultery, Section 377 cases. All under the same Chief Justice that your press conference questioned.

You can draw your own inferences on it. It depends on the Supreme Court. The points of view, whether a particular judgement is progressive or retrograde, is an opinion. What you believe to be a progressive judgement can be a retrograde judgement for somebody else. Eventually the job of judge is to determine a case which is before him and with accordance with the law as he understands it. It is the press, media and civil society which attaches tags to it. On one of my judgments, everybody came down very heavily saying that it was most retrograde judgement of the SC which was the Rajbala judgement. Well, it was their opinion.

What is the solution for the large number of cases stuck in the Indian judicial system?

It requires a full-scale debate of how to handle it. No stakeholder is interested in holding a debate on it. Everybody is interested in pointing out about the pendency and time frames taken. Let there be proper debate on it. Let all the stakeholders be invited. Judges, legislators and civil society. I can talk about it for one full day with experience as a judge, CJI to HC and SC. I can a give lot of inputs on what’s the problem and some possible solutions. In just two minutes, we can’t address this problem.

What was one of the most challenging cases you faced over your career?

Intellectually, there are a couple of judgments. It’s a less-debated and a less-known judgment. One was the Assam Parliament Secretaries Act which was challenged in High Court and then it came to Supreme Court. A lot of states have this practice. There’s a constitutional amendment which prohibits the enhancement of strength of cabinets beyond a particular proportion to the legislative assembly or parliament strength. There were political problems. In a bid to get over that amendment the legislature resorted to a practice of appointing parliamentary secretaries under a law. That law was challenged. The matter came before me and we held such laws as unconstitutional. Intellectually I had to do a lot of homework before I wrote that judgment. It didn’t attract that much attention from media because there was not much of “masala” in it. NJAC (National Judicial Appointments Commission) had a lot of “masala”, the whole press was covering it. Privacy, too, a had a lot of “masala”.

What is your next innings, post retirement? Would you consider politics?

Talking about electoral politics, I’m not going to contest any elections. All this discussion is politics. If this is politics, then I’m into politics but not in terms of elections.
