Kiwi White-Terrorist kills 49 Muslims while they knelt for prayers

Welligton — At least one gunman killed 49 people and wounded more than 20 during Friday prayers at two New Zealand mosques in the country’s worst ever mass shooting which Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern condemned as terrorism.

A gunman broadcast live footage on Facebook of the attack on one mosque in the city of Christchurch, mirroring the carnage played out in video games, after publishing a “manifesto” in which he denounced immigrants.

New Zealand was placed on its highest security threat level, Adern said, adding that four people in police custody, three men and one woman, held extremist views but had not been on any police watchlists.

Police Commissioner Mike Bush said 49 people had been killed at two mosques and one man in his late 20s charged with murder.

“It is clear that this can now only be described as a terrorist attack,” Ardern said.

The video footage widely circulated on social media, apparently taken by a gunman and posted online live as the attack unfolded, showed him driving to one mosque, entering it and shooting randomly at people inside.

Worshippers, possibly dead or wounded, lay huddled on the floor, the video showed. Reuters was unable to confirm the authenticity of the footage.

Hamzah Noor Yahaya, a survivor of the shootings at Al Noor mosque, stands in front of Christchurch Hospital at the end of a lockdown on March 15, 2019 in Christchurch, New Zealand.

One man who said he was at the Al Noor mosque told media the gunman was white, blond and wearing a helmet and a bulletproof vest. The man burst into the mosque as worshippers were kneeling for prayers.

“He had a big gun … he came and started shooting everyone in the mosque, everywhere,” said the man, Ahmad Al-Mahmoud. He said he and others escaped by breaking through a glass door.

An anonymous post on Friday on the discussion site 8chan, known for a wide range of content including hate speech, said the writer was going to “carry out an attack against the invaders”, and included links to a Facebook live stream, in which the Friday shooting appeared, and a manifesto.

The manifesto cited “white genocide”, a term typically used by racist groups to refer to immigration and the growth of minority populations, as his motivation.

The Facebook link directed users to the page of a user called brenton.tarrant.9.

A Twitter account with the handle @brentontarrant posted on Wednesday images of a rifle and other military gear decorated with names and messages connected to white nationalism. What looked like the same weapons appeared in the livestream of the mosque attack on Friday.

Darkest Day

It was not immediately clear if the attacks were carried out by the same man.

“This is one of New Zealand’s darkest days,” Adern said.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said one of the men in custody was Australian.

All mosques in New Zealand had been asked to shut their doors, police said.

Muslims account for just over 1 percent of New Zealand’s population, a 2013 census showed.

49 Killed In New Zealand's Worst Ever Mass Shooting, All Mosques Asked To Shut

‘The firing went on and on’

The online footage, which appeared to have been captured on a camera strapped to the gunman’s head, showed him driving as music played in his vehicle. After parking, he took two guns and walked a short distance to the mosque where he opened fire.

Over the course of five minutes, he repeatedly shot worshippers, leaving more than a dozen bodies in one room alone. He returned to the car during that period to change guns, and went back to the mosque to shoot anyone showing signs of life.

One man, with blood still on his shirt, said in a television interview that he hid from the gunman under a bench and prayed that he would run out of bullets.

“I was just praying to God and hoping our God, please, let this guy stop” Mahmood Nazeer told TVNZ.

“The firing went on and on. One person with us had a bullet in her arm. When the firing stopped, I looked over the fence, there was one guy, changing his gun.”

The video shows the gunman then driving off at high speed and firing from his car. Another video, taken by someone else, showed police apprehending the gunman on a pavement by a road.

Police said improvised explosive devices were found with a vehicle they stopped. The gunman’s video had shown red petrol canisters in the back of his car, along with weapons.

The Bangladesh cricket team is in Christchurch to play New Zealand in a third cricket test starting on Saturday.

“They were on the bus, which was just pulling up to the mosque when the shooting begun,” Mario Villavarayen, team strength and conditioning coach, told Reuters in a message. “They are shaken but good.”

The third cricket test was cancelled, New Zealand Cricket said later.

Violent crime is rare in New Zealand and police do not usually carry guns.

Before Friday, New Zealand’s worst mass shooting was in 1990 when a gun-mad loner killed 13 men, women and children in a 24-hour rampage in the tiny seaside village of Aramoana. He was killed by police. — HuffingtonPost

Kerala Court slaps Rs.50Lac defamation notice against Sudershan TV for airing Fake-news

Kochi – Kozhikode sub-Court II of Kerala slapped Rs.50,00,000 fine against the owner of Sudharshan TV channel for spreading fake news against the owner of Malabar Gold.

Suresh Chavhanke owner of Sudharshan TV and a staunch Hindutva provocateur aired fake and morphed images and visuals back in 2016 about Dubai-based M.P. Ahammed – director of the Malabar Gold organizing Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations in Chennai.

Malabar Gold and its director immediately filed a defamation suit against the radical TV channel for spreading fake news with ulterior motives of damaging the Gold business and creating a communal rift in the pluralistic south-Indian society.

Eventually, Judge G Rajesh declared Sudharshan TV guilty of defamation suit and ordered Chavhanke to pay the compensation and the court-related expenses to the petitioners.

M.P. Ahammed expressed gratitude and hailed Indian constitution for awarding justice.

In the recent past, Sangh-backed Chavhanke deteriorated the already-effected Bulandshahar violence by blaming the murder of the cop on a peaceful Muslim gathering.

Sudharshan TV is infamous for launching communal rifts, provocations and anti-Muslim propaganda. Despite, Chavhanke was arrested multiple times he continues to damage the secular fabric of the Indian society.

VIDEO: Iranian Police force a taxi driver buy them stationary including soap and paper

0

This video posted on social media by an IranWire Citizen Journalisttells the story of a taxi driver who got into trouble with the traffic police in Fars province in southwestern Iran, and how he was forced to pay out of pocket just so he could continue his work.

It’s a good example of the type of video and photo evidence IranWire regularly receives — usually around a dozen every day — and a testament to the widespread and ordinary corruption that occurs throughout the Islamic Republic on a daily basis.

After the driver was confronted by police, they seized his “workbook” — a list of his jobs over the last 100 hours or so, and what he had earned during that period.

“I am a driver on the Forough-Marvdasht route and this is the highway police station in Akbarabad, Shiraz,” he says in the video. “They seized my workbook. After two hours Captain Gorjizadeh gave me a list and told me to ‘go and shop for the station [if you want] to get your workbook back.’ I am only a cabdriver. Where in the world can I get the money to shop for the station? I bought a four-liter bottle of [stain remover] liquid for 9,000 tomans [$2.14], a pack of A-4 paper for 30,000 [$7.12] and some hand soap for 32,5000 tomans [$7.71]. They wanted two of each. I did not have the money to pay for what they had ordered.”

OPINION: Responding Rishi Nair’s divisive writings

by Advocate Abdulhameed Padubidri

This is purely communal political hatred campaign, as usual, being used by RSS-minded people in the context of the coming Lok-Sabha Election-2019. It’s far remote from the truth what they (RSS) believed to be fact. They don’t know even the basic facts that led to winning of Muslim candidates in the constituencies they mention.

In fact, Muslims in India always uphold the secular fabrics enshrined in the Indian Constitution. It’s also true that they maintain the same spirit while voting too. They don’t care about party and candidate, whether he/she is a Muslim or non-Muslim.

But they only care about the secular adherence of candidate and stability of party in their constituencies as well as state or national legislature.

The below few examples will give some correct picture as against their communal hatred campaign:

They mentioned asking ”name one Assembly with over 65% Muslim and Christian population, which elected a Hindu as its MLA or MP?” And they listed the Muslim MPs mentioning some of their MP constituencies.

Some of the constituencies they mentioned are: Barpeta-Assam, Dhubri-Assam, Araria-Bihar, Kathihar-Bihar, Srinagar-JK, Anantnag-JK, Malappuram-Kerala, Murshidabad-(WB), Basirhat-(WB)  and some more.

There are other constituencies also in the above list. But, the fact is that they didn’t elect them because they were Muslims, but they elected them because of the stability.

For example, Asaduddin Owaisi was elected in Hyderabad not only because he’s Muslim, but also his adherence to secular fabrics and stability of his party in his constituency. There were around seven Muslim candidates in the same constituency including those of recognized parties. But they rejected them all and elected Owaisi. Why? Because the reason is very clear that his party is stable and is adherent to constitutional esteem in the constituency.

Further, why Mohammed Asrarul Haque from Congress got elected in Kishanganj of Bihar? Because of peace, his party’s stability and adherence  I mentioned above. If that is the case, there were JDU, AAP, BSP, RJD, LJP, IUML in which all candidates were Muslims (except BJP and few independent candidates). Why they didn’t elect a Muslim candidate of any of these parties? why Mohammed Asrarul Haque? The reason is here also clear.

Now let us see the scenario in Anantnag-Jammu and Kashmir, where PDP candidate Mehbooba Mufti Sayeed was elected. Very interesting here is that even BJP candidate was also a Muslim along with all parties candidates like JKNC, JKNPP, BSP, AAP, SP, All INDIA Forward bloc, All J&K Republic Party, Ambedkar Samajavady Party etc..Why only the candidate of PDP, which was a partner party in PDP-BJP-led government in J&K? Why not any other candidate of any of other party? Rishi Nair need to answer this.

Suppose, if BJP candidate was elected here, who happens to be a Muslim. Does he become Hindu being elected as BJP candidate? No, he remains as Muslim. Then what is the viewpoint of Rishi Nair here? Will your perception change if any BJP Muslim wins in the place of a Hindu candidate? We need answer.

So is the case of Srinagar-JK, where all the candidates from different political parties including BJP were Muslims. What RSS has to say in this regard?

Dhubri Assam constituency is of almost the same scenario with few exceptions. Badruddin Ajmal won the election from his party-AIUDF. There was congress candidate Wazed Ali Choudhary including AGP, All India TrinaMoola Congress, AAP, SP, IUML & other independent Muslim candidates. Why no other party including Congress got elected; why only AIUDF’s Ajmal got elected? Because the voters didn’t see the parties or candidates rather they cared about stability and adherence.

One more false claim in this (RSS) writing, is that there are many constituencies where Muslims in majority elects non-Muslim or Hindu candidate for their good adherence to peace, secularism and stability of their party in their constituencies.

Having said all these, it’s just nothing but communal politics being played by RSS and its ideologues. They have divisive political tactics by polarizing the voters based on religion and castes to win the election by hook or by crook. See how they try to communalize the voters for their benefits. It’s not at all good for the composite, a great secular and democratic country like India. Let us all foil their divisive politics and elect a good candidate from any party or any religion, who upholds the adherence of stability and our Constitution.

Mumbai man writes book in Jail on how to deal with false terror charges

by Aarefa Johari

I have been made to suffer all three degrees of torture that the police use to force false confessions out of people

During the nine years he spent in jail for a crime he did not commit, Abdul Wahid Shaikh completed a Master’s degree in English, a course in journalism and the first year of a law degree. But his biggest accomplishment, he believes, is writing a 400-page book about his experiences, to serve as a guide for anyone who gets falsely implicated in a terrorist attack.

In 2006, Shaikh was one of the 13 men arrested by the Maharashtra police for allegedly carrying out the July 11 Mumbai train bomb blasts, which killed 188 people and injured more than 800. Shaikh was specifically accused of using his house to harbour Pakistani terrorists, who then went on to plant bombs in the city’s local trains along with 13 Indian conspirators. Nine years later, in September 2015, 12 of the accused were convicted by a special court in Mumbai. Shaikh alone was acquitted, after the court found no merit in the accusations against him.

After his release, 38-year-old Shaikh slowly began to pick up the threads of his life once again – a life with his wife, his now-teenaged son and daughter and his former job as a science teacher at an Anjuman-e-Islam school. But the trauma of the custodial torture he was put through has not yet left him.

Last week, Shaikh officially released Begunaah Qaidi – Innocent Prisoner – the book he spent ten months writing when he was in Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail. The Urdu book, Shaikh makes clear, is less of an autobiography and more of a guidebook for other innocent prisoners fighting the “police state”.

Nonetheless, the early chapters of the book contain Shaikh’s gut-wrenching accounts of the kind of torture that he and his co-accused were put through for the first three months after their arrest.

Three degrees of torture

“I have been made to suffer all three degrees of torture that the police use to force false confessions out of people,” said Shaikh, speaking to Scroll.in during recess hour at the school where he teaches.

First, he says, the police use verbal abuse, threats and the stripping of clothes as an interrogation technique. “Second degree is when they beat you with belts, force you into hunger or solitary confinement, tie you up and force you to stand for days,” said Shaikh. Third degree involves extreme physical torture including waterboarding, using electric shocks or chemicals on private parts, or forcing the prisoner’s legs into 180-degree splits.

“They also make rape threats towards the wives and sisters of the accused, or molest female relatives in front of you,” said Shaikh, who claims that one of his co-accused was forced to watch police officers molest his sister-in-law. “Through these means, the police managed to get false confessional statements from everyone.”

Shaikh was the only accused at the time who did not end up signing a confessional statement, which he claims was a deliberate “strategy” on the part of the police’s anti-terrorism squad to prove in court that no torture had been involved in the interrogations. However, in the jail cells of various prisons in Maharashtra, Shaikh continued to face intermittent bouts of mental and physical torture till 2008. “At one point they fractured my arm and left me without medication for 15 days,” he said.

Characteristics of a terror accused

Now that he is acquitted and out as a free man, a number of Shaikh’s well-wishers have asked him to file criminal cases against the police for the torture he was put through. But Shaikh does not plan to do that any time soon. “My focus right now is to appeal against the conviction of the other 12 men in this case, because I know they are also innocent,” said Shaikh.

In his book, Shaikh writes about what he believes are the typical characteristics that the police in India look for while making arrests terror attack cases. “First, of course, he has to be a Muslim. They almost never bother to arrest Hindus,” he said. “He also has to be highly qualified, like an engineer, businessman, doctor, post-graduate. They don’t like Muslims becoming successful leaders.”

Also, as in the case of Shaikh himself, the police allegedly look to arrest men who already have some small previous criminal record in their name. In 2001, Shaikh claims he was framed and falsely accused of being a member of the banned extremist outfit, Students Islamic Movement of India. As a result, he was repeatedly questioned by the police in multiple terror attack cases in Mumbai. “I was eventually acquitted in that case in 2012,” he said.

Innocence Network

Now, less than two years since his acquittal, Shaikh has already become an activist for the rights of all prisoners accused of false cases, and the 12 remaining men convicted in the train blasts case.

Last year, he founded an organisation called Innocence Network, drawing together prominent lawyers, retired judges, activists and filmmakers to fight false arrests. The organisation holds seminars, rallies and people’s tribunals to spread awareness about the ways in which innocent Muslims often get implicated in false cases.

Shaikh is now looking for Hindi and English translators for his book, so that he can reach out to a larger number of readers. “I want to send out three messages through my book,” said Shaikh. “First, that the 7/11 train blasts case is bogus, and the convictions are bogus too. Second, that this nation has become a police state. And third, I want to tell people what exactly they can do if they are ever arrested in a false terror case – how you can resist torture, who you can seek help from within the justice system, and more.”

Japan launches Mobile-Mosques to help Muslims pray during Olympics-2020

Tokya — Japan has introduced mobile-mosques for the Muslim residents and tourists attending Olympics 2020. The decision has come from Japanese Tourism Ministry to respect the religious commitment of resident and tourist Muslims.

The mobile-mosque was demonstrated by a Japanese firm Yasu Project Co.Ltd in front of Toyota Stadium in Toyota city. Engineers showcased the interior and exterior of the mosque while showing Muslim men praying inside the mobile-mosque.

Muslim Men praying inside the Mobile-Mosque (demonstrated).

Yasuharu Inoue, CEO of Yasu Project said, “there are very few numbers of mosques in Japan for Muslim to pray, as the industry sees a lot of Muslims visiting Japan to watch the games, so they had to come up with something to make them feel ease to pray while visiting Japan.”

The engineers have designed the taps and washing tubs inside the mobile-mosque in order to ease the Wudhu (ablution) as well as prayers at the same place, while Muslims don’t have to bother about the ablution.

Japan will host Olympics 2020 which is scheduled in summer, and a number of 100,000 to 300,000 Muslims live in Japan, while thousands of tourist Muslims will visit Japan for the games. The gesture by Japanese Tourism Ministry to value the religious commitment of resident and tourist Muslims, has been broadly applauded.

India stands as Second Largest Importer of Weapons

India was the world’s second-largest arms importer from 2014-18, ceding the long-held tag as largest importer to Saudi Arabia, which accounted for 12% of the total imports during the period.

“India was the world’s second largest importer of major arms in 2014–18 and accounted for 9.5% of the global total,” according to the latest report published by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on Monday.

However, Indian imports decreased by 24% between 2009-13 and 2014-18, partly due to delays in deliveries of arms produced under licence from foreign suppliers, such as combat aircraft ordered from Russia in 2001 and submarines ordered from France in 2008, the report stated.

India is world’s second-largest arms importer

Russia accounted for 58% of Indian arms imports in 2014–18, compared with 76% in 2009-13. Israel, the U.S. and France all increased their arms exports to India in 2014-18.

However, the Russian share in Indian imports is likely to go up sharply during the next five-year period as India signed several big-ticket deals recently, and more are in the pipeline. These include S-400 air defence systems, four stealth frigates, AK-203 assault rifles, a second nuclear attack submarine on lease, and deals for Kamov-226T utility helicopters, Mi-17 helicopters and short-range air defence systems. The report noted that despite the long-standing conflict between India and Pakistan, arms imports decreased for both countries in 2014-18 compared with 2009-13.

Pakistan at 11th

Pakistan stood at the 11th position, accounting for 2.7% of all global imports. Its biggest source was China, from which 70% of arms were sourced, followed by the U.S. at 8.9% and, interestingly, Russia at 6%.

Globally, the volume of international transfers of major arms in 2014-18 was 7.8% higher than in 2009-13 and 23% higher than in 2004-2008. The five largest exporters in 2014-18 were the United States, Russia, France, Germany and China, which together accounted for 75% of the total volume of arms exports in 2014-18. “The flow of arms increased to the Middle East between 2009-13 and 2014-18, while there was a decrease in flows to all other regions,” the report said.

China, which has emerged as a major arms exporter, has increased its share by 2.7% for 2014-18 compared to 2009-13. Its biggest customers are Pakistan and Bangladesh.

As Indian imports reduced, Russian exports of major arms were dented, decreasing by 17% between 2009-13 and 2014-18. The report said this was partly due to “general reductions in Indian and Venezuelan arms imports”, which have been among the main recipients of Russian arms exports in previous years.

Heart-attack getting common in Young Adults

A heart attack, known earlier as a disease of the old, is now strikingly common in people aged 40 and below, finds a study. The study compared people aged 41-50 years and 40 or younger heart attack survivors and found that among patients who suffer a heart attack at a young age overall is 40 or younger.

In addition, the proportion of people below 40 having a heart attack has been increasing, rising by 2 per cent each year for the last 10 years. “It used to be incredibly rare to see anyone under age 40 come in with a heart attack and some of these people are now in their 20s and early 30s,” said Ron Blankstein, Associate Professor at Harvard University.

Importantly, youngest heart attack survivors have the same likelihood of dying from another heart attack or stroke as survivors over 10 years older. While the traditional risk factors include diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking, family history of premature heart attack and high cholesterol, substance abuse, including marijuana and cocaine were more the reason behind the increased heart attacks in younger patients.

The findings will be presented at the American College of Cardiology’s 68th Annual Scientific Session in New Orleans.

For the study, the researchers included a total of 2,097 young patients. They found that the group below 40 had more spontaneous coronary artery dissection — a tear in the vessel wall, which tends to be more common in women, especially during pregnancy.

Good habits like avoiding tobacco, regular exercise, heart healthy diet, weight loss if required, managing blood pressure and cholesterol, controlling diabetes if required, and staying away from substance abuse need to be maintained for a good heart, Blankstein suggested.

PUBG Addiction—Game or Threat?

0

by Shoeb Ahmed Siddiqui

World Health Organization has officially recognized gaming as a legitimate mental health disorder.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds commonly known as PUBG is an online multi-player royal game. It is a player vs player or squad vs squad game in which up to one hundred players fight a battle royal in a map of 6km x 6km in battle royal type where the last man standing remains to be called “Winner-Winner Chicken Dinner”.

It is available in Windows, Play station, Xbox and Mobile, of which the mobile version is most common among these days called PUBG Mobile

The addiction to this game has become more concerning than addiction to drugs as we get to see youngsters hooked to their mobile phones playing these games, spending their unlimited time and doing nothing.

It is considered as the most popular mobile game in the world but it is ruining the lives of youth, losing their valuable time, mental health, and not able to have proper sleep due to this game.

Several cases of PUBG addiction have been reported in many countries including India, where addiction to these games led youth to destroy their mental health, hallucinating and even injuring themselves.

  • A 15-year-old boy studying Class 10 from Bangalore addicted to PUBG, that he would stay up until 2-3 am playing the game, and often missed school because of waking up late. His worried parents then took him to SHUT (Service for Healthy Use of Technology) Clinic and now he is under treatment.
  • A 19-year-old man from Delhi was arrested for allegedly killing his parents and sister, since they objected his additions to PUBG.
  • A class 10 student confessed at police station that he stole Rs 50000 from his father to purchase a PUBG Controller.
  • A Malaysian man left his home including his four months pregnant wife for playing the online game.
  • A fitness trainer from Jammu Kashmir has ended up in hospital after losing his mental health due to his addiction to the game. After continuously playing the game for 10 days, he had become violent and started hitting himself with blows.
  • A young man from Madhya Pradesh drank acid instead of drinking water while playing PUBG, later he was rushed to hospital and was operated on his intestine for more than 10 hours.
  • A 27-year-old man from Mumbai stabbed his sister’s fiancé after the latter confronted him about his severe gaming addiction.

Besides draining themselves with playing these games, youth are on verge of losing their eyesight.

Due to playing the game for long hours they have grown eye pain, vertigo, weakness, lack of sleep, headache, mood-swings, irritation and peevish behavior. Addicted gamers also express social phobia.

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) have outlined over 120 cases of PUBG addiction in 2018 in India alone.

World Health Organization has officially recognized gaming as a legitimate mental health disorder.

Following the incidents many concerned parents have demanded a ban on the online game, which resulted in Rajkot Police banning the game, following which Surat, Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath districts have gone ahead and issued notice to ban the popular game.

It was not just parents, even children demanded the game to be banned. An 11-year-old child from Mumbai appealed to the state and central governments to ban PUBG. PUBG was banned in China in December 2018.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also reportedly recommended a ban on the game across the country. As per the Sensor Tower report, PUBG was downloaded more in the first quarter of 2018 than apps such as YouTube, Netflix and Snapchat.

The concern has now escalated to the highest level in India, speaking during a program on “pariksha pe charcha” a mother of a ninth-grader asked PM Modi that his son was distracted by the online game.

Despite ban-threats and some cities have banned it, PUBG is also organizing online tournaments in India, where a whopping Rs1 Crore was distributed as prize money.

PUBG in a statement had promised that they would take feedback from parents, educators and government organizations to create a safe ecosystem that would enhance the game playing experience.
