Cairo – Egypt’s longest serving president and the “war hero” Mohammed Hosni Mubarak passed away at the age of 91 on Tuesday afternoon.
Mubarak was born on 4th May 1928 in Kafr-el Meselha, Kingdom of Egypt. Before he was active in politics, he was a career officer in the Egyptian Air Force. He served as its commander from 1972 to 1975 and rose to the rank of air chief marshal in 1973.
Mubarak assumed presidency after the murder of Anwar Sadat, and he ruled for 30 years which makes him longest-serving leader after Mohammed Ali Pasha who ruled for 43 years.
Mubarak stepped down in February 2011 after 18-days of protests by Muslim Brotherhood party backed by Obama-regime. However, in April 2011 he was falsely detained for corruption and abuse of power.
Egypt’s presidency has hailed Mubarak as a “military leader and war hero” and has offered its condolences to his family.
Egypt’s armed forces spokesman called Mubarak “one of its sons and a war leader.”
