Syria — The Turkish military operation in Syria has displaced over 160,000 civilians, the UN secretary general said on Monday. He expressed grave concerns over the military developments in northeast Syria.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged all parties to resolve their concerns through peaceful means, and stressed that civilians who don’t take part in hostilities should be protected at all cost.
Guterres also expressed serious concerns that the Turkish onslaught could lead to the unintended release of individuals associated with ISIS, as some of the Kurdish forces guarding the ISIS prisoners and their families are pulled into the war with Turkish forces.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Monday that the Turkish military offensive in Syria has displaced more than 250,000 civilians.
The UNICEF said that nearly 70,000 children have been displaced since hostilities in northeast Syria escalated nearly a week ago.
