Uttar Pradesh — A Dalit man was set on fire after being mistaken as a thief when he entered a house to avoid street dogs in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh (UP) on Thursday night.
28-year-old Sujit Kumar visited his in-laws house at UP’s Barabanki district, he was chased by street dogs, so he entered a random house to avoid them. But the house occupants mistook him as a thief and started beating him badly, and tried to burn him ailve by spriknling petrol, superintendent of police, Akash Tomar told media.
He caught fire on his back and was rushed to a near-by hospital, where his condition seems to be recovering.
Police filed an FIR against four people under different sections of Indian Penal Code. Two of the accused are absconding while the other two have been arrested.
