An area has been cordoned off and a search operation is underway, according to a defence official in Jammu.
Officials reported that during the night between Saturday and Sunday, the army killed one terrorist and caught two others alive while thwarting an attempt by the armed militants to infiltrate the Poonch district along the Line of Control (LoC).
According to Lt Col. Devender Anand, a defence spokesperson headquartered in Jammu, “On Saturday at around 2215 hours (10.15pm), alert troops deployed on the LoC in the Poonch sector observed a suspicious movement of a group (three individuals) close to the Line of Control.”
He claimed that the gang crossed the LoC and entered Indian territory about midnight. “Alert troops confronted the intruders at around 2:00 a.m. as the group approached the gate. One of the intruders was shot dead during the firefight, while the other two were able to flee into the bush by making use of the dense undergrowth and rocky outcrop.
He added that a search operation was started at early light on Sunday, and the body of one intrusive was found at the encounter site. The area was immediately closed off to prevent their escape across the LoC.
One intruder was captured alive and in wounded condition as the search for him in the jungle continued. The third invader was also captured alive during the ensuing search, continued Lt Col Anand.
Three bags containing fourteen packets of drugs totaling roughly 17 kg in weight, together with Pakistani cash, some papers, and food, have so far been found during the search operation, according to officials.
The two invaders who were captured alive admitted after first interrogation that they (all three) were citizens of Pakistan Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (POJK) and were from Maidan Mohalla in Village Chanjal, according to the spokesperson.
According to an army spokeswoman, Indian Army personnel took swift action to thwart a significant attempt by a narco terror gang to infiltrate the area, which might have disturbed the tranquilly in the districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
