Saudi Arabia Expands Humanitarian Aid for Gaza Through Red Cross Partnership
Riyadh – The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has signed a cooperation agreement with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to enhance emergency response efforts in Gaza, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.
The agreement was signed by KSrelief’s Assistant Supervisor-General for Operations and Programs, Ahmed Al-Baiz, and ICRC Director-General Pierre Krähenbühl. As part of the deal, Saudi Arabia will provide an additional $1.85 million in humanitarian assistance, raising its total support for the ICRC’s Gaza relief efforts to $11.85 million.
The newly allocated funds will be used to deliver essential medical supplies to strained healthcare facilities and improve access to clean water and sanitation—critical needs amid the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region.
Since the outbreak of the conflict between Hamas and Israel on October 7, 2023, Gaza has faced a severe humanitarian emergency. Tens of thousands of casualties, mass displacement, and shortages of food, clean water, and medical supplies have put immense pressure on the enclave’s health and infrastructure systems. Hospitals continue to struggle with overwhelming numbers of injured civilians while grappling with shortages of medicine, electricity, and basic medical equipment.
The destruction of essential infrastructure has further compounded the crisis, leaving large segments of the population without clean drinking water, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks.
Saudi Arabia, through KSrelief, has been actively involved in providing emergency relief to Gaza, working in coordination with international organizations to deliver food, medical aid, and other life-saving assistance. The latest agreement with the ICRC underscores the Kingdom’s ongoing commitment to alleviating the suffering of civilians in the region.
