Islamic World Unites to Approve Riyadh Ai Charter
Riyadh — The 53 member states of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) have unanimously endorsed the Riyadh Charter for Artificial Intelligence, establishing a unified ethical and strategic framework for AI adoption in the Islamic world.
The announcement was made during the Global AI Summit, hosted by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) in Riyadh in September 2024, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
During the 45th session of the ICESCO Executive Council in Tunisia, all member states, along with representatives from SDAIA, formally approved the charter. The session highlighted its role in aligning AI development with Islamic values, fostering sustainable growth, and enhancing global cooperation.
Member states reaffirmed their commitment to responsible AI governance and its ethical implementation across the Islamic world.
Kais Hammami, director of ICESCO’s Center of Foresight and Artificial Intelligence, presented the charter’s key pillars and strategic objectives, emphasizing its importance in guiding AI advancements to benefit Islamic nations collectively.
