Foreigners May Face Visa Denial, Rupees 10 Lakh Fine Under New Indian Law

New Delhi – A new proposed bill will deny entry to foreigners deemed as threat to the India’s sovereignty, integrity, or national security. Violators may also face hefty fines of up to Rupees 10 lakh (1 Million INR) and strict prison sentences for immigration offenses.

The bill explicitly bars entry to individuals who could pose risks to India’s stability. Additionally, educational institutions and healthcare facilities will be required to report foreign nationals to immigration authorities, ensuring stricter oversight of non-citizens in the country.

Mandatory Registration and ID Requirements

Foreigners, including those of Indian origin, must register with the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO). However, tourists are exempt from this requirement if their stay does not exceed 180 consecutive days.

All foreign nationals will be required to carry valid identification proof, such as a passport or an equivalent document, at all times while in India.

Strict Penalties for Violations

The bill outlines severe punishments for immigration-related offenses:

Illegal Entry: Up to five years in prison and a fine of Rupees 5 lakh (500,000 INR) for entering India without a valid passport or visa.

Forged Documents: Foreigners using fake documents may face imprisonment of two to seven years and fines ranging from Rupees 1 lakh (100,000 INR) to Rupees 10 lakh (1 Million INR).

Visa Violations & Trespassing: Overstaying a visa or unauthorized entry into restricted areas can result in a three-year jail term and a fine of Rupees 3 lakh (300,000 INR).

The proposed bill aims to enhance national security and streamline foreigner monitoring systems. If passed, it will significantly impact the regulatory framework governing foreign nationals in India.
