Russia’s Lavrov to Discuss Turkey’s Role in Ukraine Peace Talks During Visit

Moscow — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit Turkey on Monday to discuss recent negotiations between Russia and U.S. officials on ending the war in Ukraine, as well as Ankara’s potential role in the peace process, a Turkish foreign ministry source confirmed on Sunday.

Turkey, a NATO member, previously hosted early peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in 2022. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that Ankara is “ready to assume this role in the upcoming period” and contribute to future negotiations.

Lavrov’s visit comes as Russia marks the third anniversary of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

In addition to Ukraine, discussions between Lavrov and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will cover the ongoing ceasefire efforts in Gaza and developments in Syria. Turkey is expected to emphasize the importance of Syria’s territorial integrity and the expulsion of terrorist groups from the region.
