Activist Zahack Tanvir meets Israeli Students at Yale University
New Haven — Zahack Tanvir, Director of Milli Chronicle London on Sunday had the chance to meet with Israeli students at Yale University in New Haven, the United States, as part of peace activism to promote mutual understanding. He was invited by Rabbi Elchanan Poupko, an American Jewish leader dedicated to facilitating dialogue and bringing different communities together.
TedX speaker, Rabbi Poupko, who has dedicated much of his life to promoting peace and understanding, gave Zahack a tour of Yale’s World of Islamic Manuscripts library. This library, filled with centuries-old Islamic texts, set the stage for discussions about culture, history, and shared humanity, which are central to bridging divides.
After exploring the library, Zahack and Rabbi Poupko were joined by a group of Israeli students at Yale for a candid and respectful conversation. The students, from different walks of life, were eager to engage in dialogue—something that feels rare in a world often divided by politics.
Zahack, who studied counterterrorism from Netherland university, later shared his thoughts on social media, saying, “With #Israeli students at #YaleUniversity 🇺🇸—engaging in open and civilized conversations. They are broadminded in their views on Muslims and have a welcoming, outreaching attitude. In my opinion, politics should be left to the politicians. Let’s focus on people-to-people engagement—listening, talking, and facilitating mutual understanding!”
Rabbi Poupko also emphasized how important it is to have conversations based on empathy and shared experiences. For Zahack, the visit wasn’t just about academics or culture—it was about the power of human connection.
In a world where it’s easy to focus on the conflicts and politics that divide us, Zahack and Rabbi Poupko believe that real change happens when we engage with open hearts and minds.
