New Delhi — India’s famous Jamia Hamdard university on Friday celebrated National Education Day to mark the occasion of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s 135th Birth Anniversary.
Jamia Hamdard’s Dean of Student Welfare (DSW), organized a lecture on the ‘Role of Maulana Azad in Nation Building’. The program started after welcoming the dignitaries including the Chief Guest Rizwan Rahman, Executive Director of the Power Finance Corporation in New Delhi, as well as the Guest of Honor, Dr. Junaid Haris, Senior Faculty in the Department of Islamic Studies at Jamia Millia Islamia.
The opening remarks were then given by Dr. Zeenat Iqbal, Deputy DSW, and the program continued.
Dr. Junaid Haris introduced the topic by stating that Maulana Azad valued education highly for young Indians. He has emphasized how Maulana Azad’s educational philosophy aimed to produce future generations of ‘Vishwaguru’ in all spheres of life.
He also emphasized Maulana Azad’s vision and methodology for the nation-building process from an Islamic perspective, emphasizing the importance of racial harmony in the country, particularly between Hindus and Muslims.
While discussing Maulana Azad’s contributions, Mr. Rehman stated that Moulana believed in composite culture and sought to strike a balance between modernity and tradition. He applauded Moulana’s initiative to establish institutions and morally rigorous cultural and literary academies.
Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard Professor Dr. M. Afshar Alam gave the presidential speech, focusing on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s inspiration and contributions.
Professor expressed gratitude to Maulana Azad for serving as an example and a source of support for Aligarh Muslim University, Jamia Hamdard, and Jamia Millia Islamia. Over the years, these educational institutions had attracted bright minds and fostered minority communities.
Maulana Azad’s legacy was reaffirmed by Mr. S. S. Akhtar, Registrar of Jamia Hamdard.
He added that “Ilm ko Mashal ki tarah aage badhane ki koshish karta hai Jamia Hamdard” — Jamia Hamdard is the torch-bearer of the knowledge.
Among the dignitaries were Deans, department heads, faculty members, officers, Mutiur Rahman, and Jamia Hamdard’s students.
Country’s National Anthem marked the program’s conclusion, and Syed Saud Akhtar, Registrar of Jamia Hamdard, offered the vote of gratitude.
Jamia Hamdard is an institute of higher education deemed to be university located in New Delhi. It was founded in 1989 and is a government-funded institution of higher learning. It received the status of Institute of Eminence in 2019 from the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
