UAE announces 4.5 day working week, Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday forms new weekend

Dubai — The United Arab Emirates announced on Tuesday 4.5 working week, with Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday forming the new weekend. Federal offices will apply the new system from January 1, 2022.

Eight working hours from Monday to Thursday, between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm. While Fridays will be a 4.5-hour day, between 7:30 am and 12 pm.

Friday sermons will take place after 1:15 pm all year long in UAE. However, there will be possibility of flexible working hours and work-from-home (WFH) options on Fridays.

The decision is intended toward well-being of the UAE’s workforce with longer weekends, to boost productivity and improve the work-life balance.
