Political settlement under UN supervision is only solution to Syrian crisis: Saudi FM

Date:

Riyadh – A political settlement under the UN supervision is the only solution to the Syrian crisis while Iran should stop its sectarian project, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Tuesday.

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia supports all efforts that can pave the way for Syria’s return to the “Arab fold”, said the minister while addressing a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Riyadh.

“The Kingdom stresses the importance of the continued support for efforts aimed at resolving the Syrian crisis in a way that guarantees the security of the Syrian people and protects them from terrorist organizations and sectarian militias,” Prince said.

He added that “the settlement of the Syrian crisis requires a political solution and this is what Saudi Arabia,” noting that this “is mainly due to the parties involved in the issue and it requires that the Syrian regime and the opposition agree on a political solution.”

“We hope that the ongoing efforts will lead to solutions in this direction, and this country deserves to return to its Arab fold in order to have stability, peace and security, and we will support any efforts that seek to achieve it”, Prince Faisal affirmed.
