Aurangabad — A Kenyan member of parliament (MP) returned to India’s Aurangabad city to repay his debt to a grocery shop owner which he took 30 years ago during his college days in India.
Richard Tong’i, a Kenyan national and an MP from Kenya’s Nyaribari Chache constituency, was a college student at a local college in Aurangabad from 1985-89. He used to borrow grocery from SK Gawli a grocery shop owner back then in the Wankhedenagar locality of Aurangabad.
During his college days, Richard’s financial position was tight, so to cope out with his studies and tummy needs, he would borrow from Gawli. However, when he left India, he owed 200 Indian Rupees to Gawli.
Gawli and Richard got emotional and moved to tears upon reconciliation.
“As a student in Aurangabad, I was at my lowest point, when these people helped me. Then I thought that some day, I will come back and (re)pay. I want to say thank you. God bless the old man and his children. They were wonderful to me. They wanted to take me to a hotel for meal but I insisted that we should eat in their house,” Richard said.
