West Bengal – In a hate-crime in north Bengal on Saturday, a Hijab-clad female medical student was allegedly intimidated and threatened by a group of 10-12 men chanting “Jai Shree Ram” inside the college campus.
A female student of final-year medicine wearing her Hijab was walking around with her friends in the college campus around 10 PM when they noticed a group of 10-12 men standing along the way, after noticing her in Hijaab, they started to point fingers at her and yelled “Jai Shree Ram” and started thumping their feet to intimidate, she mentioned in an FIR.
She also added in her claim that she never saw those men in the college campus earlier.
“I am a hijab-wearing Muslim, I always wear this attire. I have never faced such harassment in my life. There was no one in the street that day to save us. Is this how we have to live now?” she added.
In the recent past, a drunk man asked a street vendor his name and then shot him in the back on learning that he is a Muslim. And in a similar such case, a 25-year-old Muslim man was beaten up by a group of men who allegedly asked him to remove his skull cap and told him to chant “Jai Shree Ram”.
A Latvian citizen in Meerut was stabbed when he refused to chant “Jai Shree Ram”.
The hate-crimes are surging in India after Narender Modi gained victory in 2019 elections. Despite Modi promised to gain minorities’ trust, hate-crimes aren’t controlled.
