New Delhi – According to a US report, religious freedom and minorities are under attack in India with Modi Government’s allowance and encouragement.
United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) in its annual report has declared India among “tier-2” nations that means “countries of particular concern (CPC)” that “engage in or tolerate” violation of religious freedom.
The US report states, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi seldom made statements decrying mob violence, and certain members of his political party have affiliations with Hindu extremist groups and used inflammatory language about religious minorities publicly.”
“The government’s allowance and encouragement of mob violence against religious minorities — that have facilitated an egregious and ongoing campaign of violence, intimidation, and harassment against non-Hindu and lower-caste Hindu minorities”, the US report mentions.
“The victims never got justice for the treatment they received, new crimes committee against the minorities were not prosecuted,” the US report adds.
Others on the list include Iran, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Laos, and Turkey.
USCIRF is based in Washington and works independently which is dedicated to defending the universal right to freedom of religion or belief abroad.
